NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme
Andhra Pradesh state government scheme
NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme is the Andhra Pradesh social security pension programme that pays Rs 4,000 a month to old age, widow, weaver, fishermen, single women and transgender pensioners, Rs 6,000 to persons with disability and Rs 10,000 to fully disabled and dialysis patients. Pensions are delivered at the doorstep on the 1st of every month; apply free at any Grama or Ward Sachivalayam.
What is the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme?
NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme is the Andhra Pradesh government's consolidated social security pension programme, run through the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department in rural areas and the Municipal Administration department in towns, with delivery handled by the Grama and Ward Sachivalayam system. NTR Bharosa was introduced in June 2024 as the renamed and enhanced successor to YSR Pension Kanuka, and the higher pension amounts took effect from July 2024.
According to the Andhra Pradesh social security pensions portal at sspensions.ap.gov.in, the pension is paid on the 1st of every month at the pensioner's doorstep, after biometric authentication by a village or ward volunteer accompanied by Sachivalayam staff. That doorstep model is the defining feature of the scheme: a very old or bedridden pensioner is not required to travel to a bank or post office to collect the money.
Main features
- Monthly cash pension across more than a dozen beneficiary categories.
- Doorstep delivery on the 1st of each month with Aadhaar biometric authentication.
- Application and grievance handled entirely at the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam, free of charge.
- Category-wise amounts, so a fully disabled or dialysis patient draws several times what a general pensioner draws.
- Annual re-verification of eligibility, which is why an unattended pensioner record can lapse.
Who is eligible for the NTR Bharosa pension?
You can be sanctioned a pension if:
- You are a resident of Andhra Pradesh with an Aadhaar number and a household rice card.
- You fall into one of the notified categories; old age (destitute men and women aged 65 years and above), widow, single woman, person with disability, multi-deformity leprosy, fully disabled, weaver, fishermen, toddy tapper, traditional cobbler, transgender person, ART/PLHIV beneficiary, chronic kidney disease patient on dialysis, bilateral elephantiasis or organ transplant recipient, or bedridden.
- Your household meets the income, land, four-wheeler, electricity consumption and property tests that Andhra Pradesh applies uniformly to its welfare schemes.
- You can complete Aadhaar biometric authentication, or have an authorised alternative recorded for a bedridden case.
You are not eligible if:
- You or a member of your household is a government employee or a government pensioner, other than the categories the state specifically exempts such as sanitation workers.
- Anyone in the household is an income tax payer.
- The household owns a four-wheeler other than a taxi, tractor or auto used for a livelihood.
- The household land holding exceeds the notified ceiling, applied as wet land and dry land limits.
- You already draw another government pension for the same person, or you are covered by a service pension.
- You are not resident in Andhra Pradesh, or you have migrated and can no longer be authenticated at the recorded address.
Households should note that eligibility is assessed at the household level for income and asset tests, but at the individual level for category. That is why an elderly husband and wife can both be sanctioned old age pension, while one individual cannot hold both an old age pension and a disability pension.
How much does NTR Bharosa pay each month?
| Category | Monthly pension |
|---|---|
| Old age, widow, single woman, weaver, fishermen, transgender, traditional cobbler | Rs 4,000 |
| Person with disability, multi-deformity leprosy | Rs 6,000 |
| Fully disabled, CKD patient on dialysis, bilateral elephantiasis, organ transplant recipient | Rs 10,000 |
| Bedridden beneficiary | Highest slab as notified |
The amounts above are the enhanced rates effective from July 2024 as published on the state pensions portal. Pension is credited or handed over on the 1st of the month; where the 1st falls on a holiday, disbursement still begins that day because it is a doorstep operation rather than a bank counter one.

How to apply for the NTR Bharosa pension
- Visit your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with the Aadhaar card of the applicant, the household rice card and the proof for your category.
- Ask the Welfare and Education Assistant or the Digital Assistant to file a new pension application in your name, selecting the correct category. There is no fee.
- Collect the acknowledgement receipt with the application number and note it, because every follow-up uses that number.
- Complete field verification. The volunteer and the Sachivalayam staff visit the house to confirm residence, category and household details. For a disability claim, a SADAREM assessment is required.
- Wait for sanction by the Mandal Parishad Development Officer in rural areas or the Municipal Commissioner in urban areas. The sanctioned pension starts from the next disbursement cycle.
- Receive the first pension on the 1st of the month at your doorstep after biometric authentication, and keep the pension ID safe.
How to check NTR Bharosa pension status
- Open sspensions.ap.gov.in and use the pensioner or beneficiary search.
- Enter your Aadhaar number or pension ID and submit.
- Check the status line, which shows whether the application is pending verification, sanctioned, or the pension is active and paid for the month.
- If nothing appears, ask the Digital Assistant at your Sachivalayam to look up the record on the departmental login, which shows the exact stage.
The portal also carries a "Disbursed This Month" dashboard, useful for confirming that your village's disbursement has actually started before you conclude your own pension has stopped.
Why do NTR Bharosa pensions get stopped?
- Biometric authentication failure across consecutive months, most common with very old pensioners whose fingerprints no longer read cleanly. The fix is an iris or alternative authentication arranged through the Sachivalayam.
- Death report entered against the record, sometimes wrongly for a namesake.
- Migration out of the village or ward, so the volunteer cannot deliver.
- Aadhaar or name mismatch between the pension record and Aadhaar data.
- Annual eligibility review flagging an income, land, vehicle or property test failure at the household level.
- Duplicate pension detected for the same individual.
For every one of these, the route is the same: go to the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with your Aadhaar, ask for the reason recorded against your pension ID, and file a re-verification request. Do not pay anyone to restore a pension.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the NTR Bharosa pension per month?
NTR Bharosa pays Rs 4,000 a month to old age, widow, single women, weaver, fishermen, transgender and traditional cobbler pensioners. Persons with disability and multi-deformity leprosy patients get Rs 6,000, fully disabled persons and chronic kidney disease patients on dialysis get Rs 10,000, and bedridden beneficiaries are placed in the highest slab.
What age qualifies for the NTR Bharosa old age pension?
The old age pension under NTR Bharosa is for destitute men and women aged 65 years and above, as stated on the AP social security pensions portal. Some categories such as weavers, toddy tappers and fishermen have lower age thresholds because of the physical wear of the occupation.
When is the NTR Bharosa pension paid?
NTR Bharosa pension is disbursed on the 1st of every month, delivered at the pensioner's doorstep by the village or ward volunteer and secretariat staff after biometric authentication. If the pensioner is not at home on the 1st, the pension can be collected at the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam.
Is NTR Bharosa the same as YSR Pension Kanuka?
Yes. NTR Bharosa is the renamed version of the earlier YSR Pension Kanuka, taken up after the change of government in June 2024, with enhanced monthly amounts effective from July 2024. The pension categories, the Sachivalayam route and the doorstep delivery model carried over.
How do I apply for the NTR Bharosa pension?
Apply free at your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with your Aadhaar, rice card and category proof. The welfare or digital assistant files the application, a field verification follows, and the sanction is issued by the Mandal Parishad Development Officer or the Municipal Commissioner.
How do I check my NTR Bharosa pension status?
Use the pensioner search on sspensions.ap.gov.in with your Aadhaar or pension ID, or ask the digital assistant at your Sachivalayam. The portal also publishes a monthly disbursement dashboard showing how many pensions were paid in your district.
Why was my NTR Bharosa pension stopped?
Pensions are most often stopped by failed biometric authentication over consecutive months, a death report, migration out of the village, an Aadhaar or name mismatch, or the household being flagged in the annual eligibility review. Report to the Sachivalayam with your Aadhaar to have the record re-verified.
Can two people in the same household get NTR Bharosa pension?
Yes, in defined cases. Each qualifying individual, for example an elderly husband and an elderly wife, or a disabled member in an elderly couple's household, is assessed on their own category. However, one person cannot draw two pensions under two categories at the same time.
