PM-KISAN: Why Instalments Get Stopped or Applications Rejected, and How to Fix Each

PM-KISAN: Why Instalments Get Stopped or Applications Rejected, and How to Fix Each
PM-KISAN payments stop most often for one of six reasons: incomplete e-KYC, a bank account not Aadhaar-seeded for DBT, a name mismatch between Aadhaar and bank records, unverified land records, an exclusion criterion being triggered, or a duplicate claim within the same family. Each has a defined fix. This article troubleshoots those for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, the Ministry of Agriculture income-support scheme. The pillar covers who is eligible; here we focus only on fixing a stopped or rejected case.
1. e-KYC not completed
This is the single most common reason instalments are withheld.
- Fix (self-service): on pmkisan.gov.in, open Farmers Corner → e-KYC and verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Fix (no linked mobile): use face-authentication e-KYC in the PM-KISAN mobile app, or biometric e-KYC at a Common Service Centre (CSC).
Instalments resume only after e-KYC reads "Yes" on your status page.
2. Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded for DBT
Linking Aadhaar to an account is not the same as seeding it for DBT through NPCI mapping. PM-KISAN pays only DBT-enabled accounts.
- Fix: visit your bank and ask them to DBT-enable (NPCI-map) your Aadhaar to the account. Confirm afterwards that the "Aadhaar Bank Account Seeding" row on your status page turns "Yes".
3. Name mismatch between Aadhaar and bank
A difference in spelling or order between your Aadhaar name and bank-record name can block the transfer.
- Fix: correct the record that is wrong. For self-registered farmers, use Farmers Corner → Updation of Self Registered Farmer to fix portal details; get bank or Aadhaar records aligned so all three match.
4. Land record not verified
Your land record must be verified by the state revenue department; until then, land seeding shows "No" or "In Progress".
- Fix: contact your state nodal officer or district agriculture office to complete land-record verification. Carry your khasra/khatauni (or state equivalent).
- Note on suspensions: land acquired after 1 February 2019 triggers a suspension pending verification rather than outright approval, the scheme supports those holding land before that cut-off.
5. An exclusion criterion was triggered
Payment stops if records show you fall into an excluded category, most commonly:
Income tax filed in the last assessment year.
Government service or a pension of Rs 10,000+/month (Group D / Class IV staff are exempt from this exclusion and remain eligible).
Constitutional post holders and practising professionals (doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, architects) and their families.
Fix: if you were flagged wrongly (for example, an ITR was filed by mistake, or you are Group D), raise the case with your district agriculture office / state nodal officer with proof. If the exclusion is correct, the case is genuinely ineligible.
6. Duplicate claim within the family
The scheme pays one benefit per family (husband, wife and minor children). If two adults in the same family registered, the duplicate is flagged and suspended.
- Fix: one member must withdraw; the other continues. Duplicate claims are not paid twice under any circumstance.
How to raise a correction or grievance
- Use Farmers Corner → Updation of Self Registered Farmer for name, bank and detail corrections.
- For land or eligibility disputes, approach your state nodal officer or district agriculture office — these are decided at state level, not on the portal.
- Use the helpdesk query form on pmkisan.gov.in for written grievances.
Help and grievance contacts
- PM-KISAN helpline: 155261 or 011-24300606
- Kisan e-Mitra chatbot on pmkisan.gov.in
- Helpdesk query form on the portal
FAQ
Will a stopped instalment be paid later once I fix the issue? Once your status rows read "Yes", eligible pending instalments are generally released in a later cycle; timing depends on government processing.
Can an agent fix my rejection for a fee? No. Registration and corrections are free; CSCs may charge only a government-notified service fee, and no one can charge to "add your name".
No official will ask for my OTP; treat any such request as fraud.
