How to Apply for PMMVY: Step-by-Step Guide
This is a supporting guide for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.
How do I apply for PMMVY?
You can apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana two ways: self-register online at pmmvy.wcd.gov.in using your mobile number and Aadhaar, or apply offline through your Anganwadi or ASHA worker. Both feed the same portal. This is the deep application walkthrough that accompanies the main Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) guide. The pillar summarises the Rs 5,000 first-child and Rs 6,000 second-girl-child benefits; here we go screen by screen and field by field.
Note the correct portal is pmmvy.wcd.gov.in; the old pmmvy.nic.in address no longer works.
Before you start: what to keep ready
Have these in hand so you do not lose a half-filled form:
- Aadhaar card of the mother (mandatory) and a mobile number you control for OTPs.
- MCP / RCHI card with the LMP date and ANC dates written on it.
- Aadhaar-seeded bank or post office account in the mother's own name, note the account number and IFSC.
- One eligibility proof: any single one of: SC/ST certificate, 40% disability certificate, BPL/NFSA ration card, MGNREGA job card, e-Shram card, PM-KISAN record, Ayushman Bharat card, or an income certificate showing family income below Rs 8 lakh.
- Scanned copies (clear, legible) of the eligibility proof and MCP card for upload.
Decision: which form applies to you
PMMVY has two claim tracks. Choose correctly at the start:
- First living child, Rs 5,000 in two instalments (Rs 3,000 + Rs 2,000).
- Second child who is a girl; Rs 6,000 in a single instalment.
A second child who is a boy, or any third or later child, has no PMMVY form: do not start one.
Online application: screen by screen
- Open pmmvy.wcd.gov.in and choose Citizen Login.
- Register your mobile number. Enter the 10-digit number, request the OTP, and enter the OTP to verify. Set your login credentials when prompted.
- Select the form — first child, or second child (girl).
- Aadhaar verification. Enter the mother's Aadhaar number and complete verification (OTP or the method the portal offers). Then type your name exactly as printed on the Aadhaar card: spelling mismatches here cause payment failures later.
- Personal details. Fill date of birth (used for the age check. You must be 18 years 7 months to under 55 years at childbirth), category, and address as the portal asks.
- Pregnancy details from the MCP card. Enter the LMP date and the dates of your ante-natal check-ups. These drive the first instalment's conditionality, so copy them accurately from the MCP card.
- Bank details. Enter the Aadhaar-seeded account number and IFSC for the account in your own name. Double-check both digits and IFSC.
- Eligibility proof. Select which category proof you are giving and upload the scan. Only one is needed.
- Upload the MCP card scan.
- Review and submit. Read every field back, submit, and note the application reference number shown on screen. Save a screenshot.
After delivery: completing later instalments
The post-delivery money is not automatic. Return to the portal and:
- Log back in with your mobile number and OTP.
- Enter the child's birth registration details.
- Enter the immunisation record for the cycle due up to 14 weeks.
This step triggers the Rs 2,000 second instalment for a first child, or the Rs 6,000 single instalment for a second girl child. Without it, the instalment stays pending indefinitely.
Offline application through Anganwadi or ASHA
- Visit your nearest Anganwadi Centre, or contact your area ASHA worker.
- Carry your Aadhaar, MCP/RCHI card, bank/post office passbook and one eligibility proof.
- Ask the worker to fill and submit the PMMVY form, they do it through the same portal and the field-functionary app on your behalf.
- Collect the acknowledgement and keep the reference number for status checks.
Common field mistakes to avoid
- Name not matching Aadhaar across the form and bank record, the leading cause of failed DBT.
- Account not in the mother's own name, or not Aadhaar-seeded, the money cannot land.
- Wrong or missing LMP/ANC dates, leaving conditionality unmet.
- Illegible eligibility proof upload, stalling verification.
- Registering beyond 270 days from childbirth. The window closes for that pregnancy, so apply during pregnancy.
Cost and safety
Registration is free at both the Anganwadi Centre and the portal. No Anganwadi worker, ASHA or agent may charge a fee, and no official will ask for your OTP or bank PIN. For help, use Lodge / Track Grievances on pmmvy.wcd.gov.in or call 1515 (earlier 14408 still works).
