What is the NSFDC Internship Scheme?

The NSFDC Internship Scheme is the internship programme of the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), a non-profit company set up in 1989 under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. NSFDC's core work is to finance income-generating activities and support skill development for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries whose family income is within a notified ceiling. The internship scheme lets students work alongside NSFDC on this development-finance and social-empowerment mandate for a short, structured period.

According to the scheme information, the internship runs for 1 to 3 months in subject areas that match NSFDC's work: public policy, economics, finance, rural management, development studies and related fields. A stipend of about Rs 10,000 per month is indicated, but it is described as tentative and subject to approval, so it should be confirmed for each cycle rather than assumed. Who is eligible for the NSFDC Internship Scheme?

A student can apply if they:

• Are an Indian citizen and currently enrolled in a postgraduate or research degree.
• Are studying a relevant field — Social Work, Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Rural Management, Development Studies, Sociology, Commerce, MBA or Data Science.
• Can obtain a bonafide certificate or NOC from their institution.

SC and ST candidates are especially encouraged to apply, in keeping with NSFDC's mandate.

A candidate cannot apply and is not eligible if they:

• Are not currently enrolled in an eligible course.
• Are studying a field unrelated to NSFDC's work.
• Cannot obtain an institutional NOC or bonafide certificate.

Because the number of internship positions per batch is limited (roughly 10 to 20, varying by cycle), selection is competitive and the exact terms are set out in each internship notice.

1. Check the current internship notice on the NSFDC website (nsfdc.nic.in) for the open cycle, positions, duration and any stipend.
2. Prepare your documents: application form, CV, a 300 to 400 word statement of purpose, institutional NOC or bonafide certificate, mark sheets and ID, and combine them into a single PDF as instructed.
3. Submit the application by the method given in the notice, usually by email to the address specified, with your name, course and the position title in the subject line.
4. Wait for shortlisting. NSFDC screens applications against the field of study and requirement, and informs selected candidates.
5. Report and complete the 1 to 3 month internship as per the offer; any stipend, where approved, is paid on the terms stated in the notice.
