What is the NSFDC Internship Scheme?

The NSFDC Internship Scheme is the internship programme of the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), a non-profit company set up in 1989 under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. NSFDC's core work is to finance income-generating activities and support skill development for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries whose family income is within a notified ceiling. The internship scheme lets students work alongside NSFDC on this development-finance and social-empowerment mandate for a short, structured period.

According to the scheme information, the internship runs for 1 to 3 months in subject areas that match NSFDC's work: public policy, economics, finance, rural management, development studies and related fields. A stipend of about Rs 10,000 per month is indicated, but it is described as tentative and subject to approval, so it should be confirmed for each cycle rather than assumed. The scheme gives students exposure to how a national financing corporation designs and delivers schemes for a disadvantaged community.

NSFDC works largely through channelising agencies; state SC development corporations, banks and other partners; to deliver concessional credit and skill-development training to Scheduled Caste beneficiaries. Who is eligible for the NSFDC Internship Scheme?

A student can apply if they:

• Are an Indian citizen and currently enrolled in a postgraduate or research degree.
• Are studying a relevant field — Social Work, Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Rural Management, Development Studies, Sociology, Commerce, MBA or Data Science.
• Can obtain a bonafide certificate or NOC from their institution.

SC and ST candidates are especially encouraged to apply, in keeping with NSFDC's mandate.

A candidate cannot apply and is not eligible if they:

• Are not currently enrolled in an eligible course.
• Are studying a field unrelated to NSFDC's work.
• Cannot obtain an institutional NOC or bonafide certificate.

Because the number of internship positions per batch is limited (roughly 10 to 20, varying by cycle), selection is competitive and the exact terms are set out in each internship notice.

How to apply for the NSFDC Internship Scheme

1. Check the current internship notice on the NSFDC website (nsfdc.nic.in) for the open cycle, positions, duration and any stipend.
2. Prepare your documents: application form, CV, a 300 to 400 word statement of purpose, institutional NOC or bonafide certificate, mark sheets and ID, and combine them into a single PDF as instructed.
3. Submit the application by the method given in the notice, usually by email to the address specified, with your name, course and the position title in the subject line.
4. Wait for shortlisting. NSFDC screens applications against the field of study and requirement, and informs selected candidates.
5. Report and complete the 1 to 3 month internship as per the offer; any stipend, where approved, is paid on the terms stated in the notice.

How much benefit does the scheme provide?

The scheme's headline benefit is a 1 to 3 month internship with a national development-finance corporation, plus a stipend of about Rs 10,000 per month where approved. Because different sources describe some batches as paid and others as unpaid, treat the stipend as tentative and confirm it for the specific cycle. How to check your application status

The NSFDC internship does not run through an online applicant-tracking portal, so there is no login or reference number to check status against in real time. Follow this sequence instead.

1. Check your email first, including spam. Because applications go in as a single PDF by email, NSFDC's shortlisting response, or its acknowledgement, also comes back by email. Add nsfdc.nic.in to your safe senders list before you apply so a shortlisting mail does not land in spam.
2. Re-check the internship notice on nsfdc.nic.in. Notices sometimes state a date by which shortlisted candidates will be informed. If that date has passed and you have heard nothing, treat it as a signal to follow up rather than assume rejection, since NSFDC does not send rejection emails to every applicant.
3. Send one polite follow-up email, replying on the same thread you used to apply, quoting your name, course, the position applied for and the date you applied. Keep it to a single follow-up rather than repeated emails.
4. Call or write to the NSFDC office at SCOPE Minar, Laxmi Nagar District Centre, Delhi 110092 if email brings no response within a reasonable period, since there is no dedicated internship helpline number.
5. Assume non-selection if the cycle's internship period starts and you have received no offer. Given the small number of positions per batch, most applicants in a given cycle do not hear back individually; silence after the stated joining date effectively means the application was not shortlisted for that round.

Because the scheme has no case ID or dashboard, keeping a copy of the exact PDF and email you sent, along with the date, is the only way to reference your own application when following up.

Common reasons for rejection

• Missing or incomplete institutional NOC. A CV and application form without a proper bonafide certificate or no-objection certificate from the college or university is one of the most common reasons applications are set aside, since NSFDC needs proof that the institution is aware of and permits the internship.
• Field of study not aligned with NSFDC's work. Applicants from courses unrelated to public policy, economics, finance, rural management, development studies, sociology, commerce, MBA or data science are unlikely to be shortlisted, because the internship is designed around NSFDC's development-finance mandate. Fix: apply only if your postgraduate or research programme reasonably maps to one of these areas, and use the statement of purpose to make that link explicit.
• Not currently enrolled. Recent graduates or those between courses are generally not eligible, since the scheme is aimed at students who are enrolled at the time of the internship. Fix: apply while still registered in the relevant degree programme.
• Weak or generic statement of purpose. A statement of purpose that does not explain why the applicant wants this specific internship, or that is far outside the 300 to 400 word guidance, weakens an otherwise eligible application. Fix: keep it within the suggested length and tie it specifically to NSFDC's work with Scheduled Caste beneficiaries.
• Incomplete document set or wrong submission format. Sending documents as separate attachments or missing one of the required items (application form, CV, NOC, statement of purpose, mark sheets, ID) when the notice asks for a single combined PDF can cause an application to be overlooked. Fix: follow the exact submission format given in the current internship notice.
• Missing subject-line details. Because shortlisting is done from a shared inbox and the volume of email applications, leaving out your name, course and the position title in the subject line, as the notice requires, makes an application easy to miss. Fix: format the subject line exactly as instructed before sending.
• Applying outside the open cycle. NSFDC releases internship notices periodically rather than accepting applications year-round; sending an application when no notice is open, or after its stated deadline, will not be considered. Fix: apply only against a live notice on nsfdc.nic.in and note its deadline.
