The AICTE-Technical University Joint Training Programs for Teachers is a faculty development scheme of the All India Council for Technical Education, under the Ministry of Education. Who is eligible for the joint training programs?

Participation: All teachers from AICTE-approved institutions affiliated with the partner technical university are eligible to attend the training.

Who cannot apply:

• Individual teachers cannot apply for a grant. They participate as trainees, not applicants.
• Individual colleges do not receive the grant directly; the funding goes to the technical university that conducts the joint programs.

What does the scheme fund?

According to the AICTE guidelines, the maximum total expenditure per training program is Rs 3 lakh, shared equally:

• AICTE releases Rs 1.5 lakh per program (or actual expenditure, whichever is less) towards TA/DA and honorarium to resource persons (honorarium capped at 20% of program cost), TA to outstation participants, and course material.
• The technical university meets Rs 1.5 lakh from its own funds for boarding and lodging of participants, coordinator honorarium (capped at 1% of program cost) and working expenses such as tea, stationery, certificates and printing.

Each program covers at least one university subject stream — Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computers, Physics, Chemistry and similar, with at least one 3-hour session on moral values, ethics and behavioural science. Preferred topics include examination reforms, NITTT-based mentor training, cognitive skills and design thinking, NBA accreditation, AICTE model curriculum and student induction.

How are the programs certified and monitored?

According to the AICTE scheme document, certification is done jointly by the university and AICTE, and certificates are issued only to participants who qualify a test conducted at the end of each program. The university acts as the facilitator, is accountable for the sanctioned grant, and must constitute a Project Monitoring Committee for effective implementation, on which AICTE nominates a representative. Being residential programs, the university must have the requisite infrastructure such as a guest house and dining hall. The accounts remain open to inspection by AICTE officials and to audit by statutory auditors.

There is no individual application. The route is institutional, through the technical university:

1. The technical university plans the joint training programs in line with the AICTE scheme and signs the required MoU/terms.
2. The university conducts each 6-day residential program for a minimum of 40 participating teachers, keeping to the prescribed subjects and sessions.
3. After each program, the university submits the schedule, resource-person list, participant list, test paper and marksheet to AICTE.
4. The university submits a yearly statement of expenditure and a CA-audited Utilization Certificate within a month of the financial year end to claim and account for the AICTE grant.
