Top Class Education Scholarship for SC Students: Complete Documents Checklist

Assemble every document before you open the form on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in), because once you submit, corrections are only possible if your institution sends the application back. This checklist covers the full document set for the Central Sector Scholarship of Top Class Education for SC Students, what each one proves, and the mistakes that make an application "defective" at verification.

The parent guide covers eligibility and benefit; this article is only about the paperwork. In one line: the scholarship pays full tuition plus an academic allowance for SC students with family income up to Rs 8 lakh at notified institutions.

The eight mandatory documents

1. SC caste certificate: proves you belong to a Scheduled Caste. Must be in the prescribed format from a competent authority. A certificate from another state needs proper endorsement, or it is treated as defective.
2. Income certificate: proves total annual family income from all sources does not exceed Rs 8 lakh. It must cover the whole family's income, not only the parents' salary, and come from a competent revenue authority the portal accepts.
3. Aadhaar card: needed for One Time Registration (OTR) on the portal and for DBT. Your name and date of birth should match your other documents.
4. Admission proof from the notified institution, an admission letter or bonafide certificate from an institution notified under the scheme. This is the document that confirms the scheme's single hardest gate: a non-notified institution is not covered.
5. Fee receipt, shows the tuition fee and other non-refundable charges paid, against which tuition is reimbursed.
6. Bank account passbook, the account must be Aadhaar-seeded, because the academic allowance is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer. An un-seeded account causes the credit to fail even after sanction.
7. Previous year mark sheet — the qualifying examination result for a fresh application, or last year's result for a renewal.
8. Sibling affidavit, certifies you are not the third sibling in the family availing this scheme, since a maximum of two siblings per family are allowed.

What each document actually guards against

• Caste certificate → category eligibility.
• Income certificate → the Rs 8 lakh ceiling.
• Admission proof → the notified-institution requirement.
• Fee receipt → the amount of tuition to be reimbursed.
• Bank passbook → successful DBT credit.
• Mark sheet → academic eligibility and, at renewal, that you cleared all subjects.
• Sibling affidavit → the two-siblings-per-family cap.

Missing or mismatched, each becomes a rejection reason, so treat the list as a pre-submission gate.

Format and scanning tips

The National Scholarship Portal accepts scanned uploads. General good practice that prevents rejections:

• Scan each document as a clear, legible file. A blurred caste or income certificate is a common defect.
• Keep each file within the size and format limits shown on the upload screen for that field; the portal states the accepted type and maximum size next to each upload box, so follow the on-screen limit rather than guessing.
• Upload the correct document in the correct field. An income certificate uploaded in the caste-certificate slot fails verification.
• Ensure the name, date of birth and other details match across Aadhaar, mark sheet and certificates.

Common document mistakes

• Institution admission proof from a non-notified college, the application cannot succeed, whatever else is correct.
• Family income understated on the certificate, or a certificate covering only salary income.
• Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so DBT fails after sanction.
• Sibling affidavit omitted, treated as a defect even when you are eligible.
• Caste certificate from another state without endorsement.

After you upload

Review the preview carefully, submit, and hand the hard copies to your institution's nodal officer so the institution can verify the application at Level 1 within the portal deadline. Track status on the portal; after Level 1 and the ministry's Level 2 verification, the allowance is released by DBT.
