Chhattisgarh's domicile document is the Niwas Praman Patra (निवास प्रमाण पत्र), the residence certificate. Which portal issues the Chhattisgarh residence certificate?

Chhattisgarh has moved its citizen service delivery to Sewa Setu at sewasetu.cgstate.gov.in. The old e-District Chhattisgarh address, cgedistrict.cgstate.gov.in, now issues a permanent redirect to Sewa Setu, so any bookmark, printed notice or third-party article still pointing at e-District will land you on the new portal. Sewa Setu describes itself as छत्तीसगढ़ शासन का आधिकारिक पोर्टल, the official portal of the Chhattisgarh government, built so that residents obtain citizen-centric services निर्धारित समय सीमा में; within a prescribed time limit. Its listed services include the residence certificate alongside income certificates, SC/ST and OBC certificates, marriage certificates, business licences and land-use information.

The portal is operated out of the State Data Centre Building, Civil Lines, Raipur, and publishes the support email sewasetu.helpline@cgchips.in. The cgchips domain reflecting the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society, which runs the state's e-governance infrastructure.

Chhattisgarh delivers its e-District certificate services under the Chhattisgarh Lok Seva Guarantee Act, which notifies a defined set of government services and attaches a time limit to each. That is the single most useful fact for an applicant: the residence certificate is not a favour granted at an officer's convenience but a service with a stated number of days, a designated officer responsible for delivering it, and an appeal route if the deadline passes. Who can and cannot apply for a CG residence certificate?

Nothing beyond the listed fee and a receipted counter service charge is legitimate. Chhattisgarh keeps a well-defined assisted channel, and the district portals point to it directly. 1. Visit a Lok Seva Kendra, a Common Service Centre or the tehsil office in your district with originals and photocopies of Aadhaar, address proof and photographs.
2. Have the operator or VLE file the residence certificate application on Sewa Setu on your behalf.
3. Pay the listed fee and collect the printed acknowledgement carrying the application number. Ask the operator to tell you the time limit for the service and note the date.
4. Cooperate with the field verification when the Patwari or Revenue Inspector calls, keeping original address documents ready.
5. Collect or download the certificate once the status shows it issued.

How do I check the status of my application?

Use the application status option on sewasetu.cgstate.gov.in with your application number. The portal also carries a complaint / grievance option on the same screens, which is the mechanism to invoke when the Lok Seva Guarantee time limit has passed and the file has not moved. Once issued, the certificate is downloaded from the portal as a digitally signed PDF carrying a verification number, so the download itself is the valid document and needs no separate attestation.

How long is the Chhattisgarh residence certificate valid?

Chhattisgarh does not print a routine expiry on the niwas praman patra, and there is no renewal step.
