Chief Minister Pension Scheme (Mukhyamantri Pension Yojana)
Chhattisgarh state government scheme
Chief Minister Pension Scheme is a Chhattisgarh state pension that pays Rs 500 per month to residents aged 60 and above, and to widowed or deserted women aged 18 and above, whose households appear in the SECC 2011 survey list. The Social Welfare Department runs it as a top-up scheme. Apply at the Gram Panchayat or on edistrict.cgstate.gov.in.
What is the Chief Minister Pension Scheme in Chhattisgarh?
Chief Minister Pension Scheme, known locally as Mukhyamantri Pension Yojana, is a state-funded monthly pension run by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. According to the department's scheme page, it pays Rs 500 per month and is described plainly as a state scheme, meaning the money comes from the Chhattisgarh budget and not from a Centreβstate share.
The scheme sits inside the Social Welfare Department's larger Social Assistance Programme (Samajik Sahayata Karyakram), which also carries the Indira Gandhi National Old Age, Widow and Disability Pensions, the Sukhad Sahara Yojana and the Social Security Pension Scheme. What separates the Chief Minister Pension Scheme from those is the way beneficiaries are identified.
The targeting basis is the SECC 2011 survey. The department states that the scheme targets senior citizens and widowed or deserted women who are listed in the survey list of the Socio-Economic and Caste Census, 2011. This is a deliberate design choice: the national pensions use a Below Poverty Line card, while this scheme reads directly off the census deprivation data.
It is an additional scheme. The Social Welfare Department says in as many words that the Chief Minister Pension Scheme is over and above the national and state pension schemes currently in operation. In practice, district offices use it to cover people whose deprivation is documented in SECC 2011 but who fall outside the age, disability or BPL conditions of the older pensions.
State statistical publications place the number of Chief Minister Pension Scheme beneficiaries at roughly 7.1 lakh, which makes it one of the larger pension heads in the Chhattisgarh social welfare budget.
Who is eligible for the Chief Minister Pension Scheme?
The Social Welfare Department lists four conditions on its scheme page. All of them have to be satisfied.
You can get this pension if:
- You are a native resident of Chhattisgarh (mool niwasi).
- You are aged 60 years or above, or
- You are a woman aged 18 years or above who is a widow, or who has been deserted after marriage (vivahoparant parityakta).
- In a rural area: your name appears in the SECC 2011 survey list, either in the automatic-inclusion index or in the list of families carrying at least one deprivation indicator.
- In an urban area: your name appears in the SECC 2011 survey list under the automatic-inclusion index with at least one deprivation indicator.
You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:
- Your household does not appear in the SECC 2011 survey list at all. This is the single most common ground of rejection, and no amount of present-day poverty substitutes for it, because the department verifies against the census list.
- You are not a resident of Chhattisgarh. Migrants living in the state but domiciled elsewhere do not qualify.
- You are a man under 60 years of age. The younger age gate of 18 years applies only to widowed and deserted women.
- You are a married woman under 60 who is neither widowed nor deserted.
- Your household appears in the census list but carries no deprivation indicator and is not in the automatic-inclusion list.
Note that dwarfism, disability and destitution are handled by separate Chhattisgarh schemes: the Social Security Pension Scheme covers persons with disabilities and dwarf persons, and Sukhad Sahara Yojana covers destitute widows. An applicant who does not fit this scheme should ask the Panchayat secretary which of the sibling pensions fits instead.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Identity, age and bank seeding for DBT |
| Age proof | Yes | Aadhaar, voter ID, birth certificate or school record |
| Chhattisgarh residence proof | Yes | Native residence is a stated condition |
| SECC 2011 household reference | Yes | Verified by the Panchayat or urban body from the survey list |
| Bank passbook | Yes | Account in the applicant's own name, Aadhaar-seeded |
| Husband's death certificate | No | Only for applicants under the widow category |
| Passport-size photograph | Yes | For the application form |
The Social Welfare Department publishes a single combined pension application form covering its pension schemes, downloadable from the department website under "Pension Application Form". Use that form rather than a handwritten letter, because the Panchayat records are keyed to its fields.
How to apply for the Chief Minister Pension Scheme
- Confirm your SECC 2011 listing first. Ask the Gram Panchayat secretary or the ward office to check whether your household appears in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census 2011 survey list, and under which indicator. Applying without this check is the main reason applications come back rejected.
- Collect the documents in the table above, Aadhaar, age proof, residence proof, bank passbook and a photograph, plus the husband's death certificate if you are applying as a widow.
- Get the pension application form from the Gram Panchayat, the ward office or the Social Welfare Department website, and fill it in completely. Write the bank account number and IFSC exactly as printed in the passbook.
- Submit the form: at the Gram Panchayat if you live in a rural area, or at the Municipal Corporation, Municipality or Nagar Panchayat ward office if you live in a town or city. Ask for a dated receipt.
- The Gram Panchayat forwards it with a recommendation to the Janpad Panchayat. This is prescribed in the department's selection process and is not optional.
- Wait for sanction. The Janpad Panchayat in rural areas, and the urban local body in urban areas, hold the power to approve or reject. Once sanctioned, your name enters the monthly pension payroll.
How to apply online
- Open edistrict.cgstate.gov.in or sewasetu.cgstate.gov.in and register with a mobile number, or go to a Common Service Centre or Choice Centre and ask the operator to apply for you.
- Choose the Social Welfare and Pension department category and select the pension service you need.
- Fill in the applicant details, upload scanned copies of Aadhaar, age proof, residence proof, bank passbook and the photograph, and submit.
- Note down the application or acknowledgement number shown on screen. You will need it to track the file.
Chhattisgarh's e-District portal publishes a stipulated time limit for social welfare and pension services, the closely related Samajik Suraksha Pension inclusion service is listed at 60 days β so treat two months as the working expectation rather than two weeks.
How do I check the status of my pension application?
- Log back into edistrict.cgstate.gov.in or sewasetu.cgstate.gov.in and use the application-status option with your acknowledgement number.
- Ask the Gram Panchayat secretary or the ward office clerk to show you where the file has reached; rural files sit with the Janpad Panchayat for sanction.
- Once sanctioned, check the bank passbook or the SMS alert from the bank. The pension arrives as a Direct Benefit Transfer credit, not as cash or cheque.
- If the file has not moved for more than 60 days, raise it on the Chhattisgarh CM Helpline, 1076.
Why do Chief Minister Pension Scheme applications get rejected?
- The household is not in the SECC 2011 survey list, or is in the list without any deprivation indicator. This is the defining condition of the scheme.
- Age proof does not show 60 years, or the Aadhaar date of birth conflicts with the school record. Fix the Aadhaar record before reapplying.
- The bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT credit fails and bounces back. Get the seeding done at the bank branch, not through an agent.
- The account is a joint account or is in a relative's name. The pension must reach an account in the beneficiary's own name.
- Duplicate pension already sanctioned under another Social Assistance Programme head for the same person.
- Marital status not documented for a widow or deserted woman applicant.
- The applicant has moved out of Chhattisgarh, which ends eligibility.
Where do I complain if the pension stops?
Take the problem in this order: first the Gram Panchayat secretary or ward office, then the Janpad Panchayat or urban local body that sanctioned the pension, then the District Social Welfare Officer at the collectorate. The Social Welfare Department directorate can be reached through its website contact at sw.cg.nic.in. Statewide grievances go to the Chhattisgarh CM Helpline on 1076, and Sewa Setu service complaints to 9203406400 or sewasetu.helpline@cgchips.in.
A pension that stops after running normally is almost always a bank problem. A dormant account, a KYC lapse or broken Aadhaar seeding; rather than a cancellation. Check the passbook at the branch before assuming the sanction has been withdrawn.

Frequently asked questions
How much pension does the Chief Minister Pension Scheme pay in Chhattisgarh?
Chief Minister Pension Scheme pays Rs 500 per month, which is Rs 6,000 a year. The Social Welfare Department page for the scheme lists the benefit as "Rs 500 per month (state scheme)", funded entirely by the Chhattisgarh government rather than by a central share.
Who is eligible for the Chief Minister Pension Scheme?
Native residents of Chhattisgarh aged 60 years or more, and widowed or deserted women aged 18 years or more, are eligible if their household is listed in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census 2011 survey. In rural areas the household must appear in the automatic-inclusion index or carry at least one deprivation indicator; in urban areas the household must appear in the automatic-inclusion index with at least one deprivation indicator.
Who cannot apply for the Chief Minister Pension Scheme?
People whose household does not appear in the SECC 2011 survey list are not eligible, however poor their present circumstances. Non-residents of Chhattisgarh, men below 60 years of age, and married women who are neither widowed nor deserted also cannot apply under this particular scheme.
Can I draw the Chief Minister Pension Scheme along with another pension?
Yes in principle, because the Social Welfare Department describes it as an additional scheme over and above the national and state pension schemes already running. In practice the district office places each eligible person in one scheme, and this scheme is used mainly for people the national pensions leave out.
Where do I apply for the Chief Minister Pension Scheme?
Applications go to the Gram Panchayat in rural areas and to the Municipal Corporation, Municipality or Nagar Panchayat ward office in urban areas. The Gram Panchayat forwards the application with its recommendation to the Janpad Panchayat. Online submission is available through edistrict.cgstate.gov.in and sewasetu.cgstate.gov.in.
Who sanctions or rejects the pension application?
The Janpad Panchayat in rural areas and the urban local body in urban areas hold the power to sanction or reject. The Gram Panchayat only recommends; it cannot approve a pension on its own.
How is the Chief Minister Pension Scheme money paid?
Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's own bank account. Chhattisgarh's Social Assistance Programme pensions are released district by district, so the credit date varies slightly between districts within a month.
Is there any fee for applying?
No. Applying for the pension at the Gram Panchayat or ward office is free. A Common Service Centre or Choice Centre may charge the government-notified service fee for assisted online submission, but no one can charge for adding a name to the pension list.
