Post-Matric Scholarship for Chhattisgarh Students Studying Outside the State
Chhattisgarh state government scheme
Post-Matric Scholarship for Chhattisgarh students studying outside the state pays course fees and maintenance allowance to SC, ST and OBC students enrolled in recognised institutions in other states. SC and ST family income must be within Rs 2.50 lakh a year and OBC within Rs 1.00 lakh. Apply online at postmatric-scholarship.cg.nic.in.
What is the Chhattisgarh post-matric scholarship for students studying outside the state?
Post-Matric Scholarship for Chhattisgarh students studying outside the state is the arrangement under which the Government of Chhattisgarh continues to fund its own SC, ST and OBC students even after they leave the state to study. The scheme is administered by the Tribal, Scheduled Caste, Backward Classes and Minority Development Department (in Hindi, the Adim Jati tatha Anusuchit Jati Vikas Vibhag) and is operated through the state's single post-matric scholarship portal at postmatric-scholarship.cg.nic.in.
The portal is unambiguous on this point: it handles applications from students studying within Chhattisgarh and outside Chhattisgarh alike. A Chhattisgarh ST student admitted to an engineering college in Maharashtra, or an SC student in a nursing course in Odisha, files on the Chhattisgarh portal rather than on the host state's portal, because the sanctioning authority is the student's home state.
Three schemes sit behind the same login:
- Post Matric SC Scholarship for Scheduled Caste students
- Post Matric ST Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students
- Post Matric OBC Scholarship for Other Backward Class students
"Post-matric" means everything after matriculation, in practice courses from class 12 onwards, including degree and postgraduate courses, medical, agriculture, veterinary, polytechnic, ITI, nursing and D.Ed. programmes.
Who is eligible for the outside-state scholarship?
You can claim the scholarship if:
- You are a domicile of Chhattisgarh and hold a residence certificate issued in the state.
- You belong to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Class category, with a caste certificate issued by a Chhattisgarh competent authority.
- Your annual family income is within Rs 2.50 lakh if you are SC or ST, or within Rs 1.00 lakh if you are OBC.
- You are enrolled in a recognised institution, government or government-aided or otherwise recognised, located in another state.
- You are studying a post-matric course, that is class 12 or above.
- You have an Aadhaar number and an active bank account in your own name.
You are not eligible if:
- You belong to the general category. These three schemes are category-linked and there is no general-category equivalent on this portal.
- Your family income is above the limit for your category. The OBC limit of Rs 1.00 lakh is much tighter than the SC and ST limit and is the single most common reason an OBC file fails.
- Your domicile or caste certificate is from another state. A student whose family has migrated and taken a certificate elsewhere must claim from that state instead.
- You are studying at a school level below class 12, which falls under pre-matric schemes, not this one.
- You are already drawing another government scholarship for the same course and year. Duplicate benefit for the same academic year is disallowed.
- Your course or institution is not recognised. Unrecognised private institutes outside the state are routinely refused at the verification stage.
What does the scholarship pay?
The scholarship has two parts. The first is reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees charged by the institution, based on the fee receipt you upload. The second is a maintenance allowance paid at a monthly rate that depends on the course group and on whether you are a hosteller or a day scholar. Hostellers draw a higher rate than day scholars in every course group.
The department publishes the current rate table on tribal.cg.gov.in under scholarship rates. Because these rates are revised from time to time and differ by course group, check the published table for your own course group rather than relying on a figure quoted elsewhere. Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's Aadhaar-seeded account, in instalments as the department releases sanctions.
How to apply for the Chhattisgarh outside-state scholarship
- Generate your NSP One Time Registration (OTR) number using your Aadhaar, because the Chhattisgarh portal asks for it before the application can be completed.
- Confirm your bank account is active and Aadhaar-seeded, and that it is in your own name. Do this before applying, not after, because a payment failure at the end of the year is far harder to fix.
- Open postmatric-scholarship.cg.nic.in and complete student registration, entering your name, category, Aadhaar and Chhattisgarh district exactly as they appear on your certificates.
- Log in with the credentials created, and select the correct scheme, Post Matric SC, ST or OBC, for your category.
- Fill the application form, choosing "outside Chhattisgarh" as the location of your institution and entering the institution name, course, year of study and fee details.
- Upload the scanned documents: domicile certificate, caste certificate, income certificate, previous marksheet, admission or bonafide certificate, fee receipt, Aadhaar and bank passbook.
- Submit the application and download the printout with the application number.
- Submit the printed application with self-attested copies to your institution for forwarding, and where required to the district office of the Tribal or SC development department of your home district in Chhattisgarh.
- Track the application on the portal and respond promptly to any objection raised, since the window closes on 30 December 2026 for 2026-27.
How do students studying outside the state get their papers verified?
Verification is the step that most often delays an outside-state file, because the institution is in another state and is not on the Chhattisgarh system. In practice, the college or university outside Chhattisgarh signs and stamps the printed application and the bonafide certificate, and the student sends or carries that forwarded copy to the district nodal officer of their home district in Chhattisgarh. The district office then verifies the caste, income and domicile certificates against Chhattisgarh records and forwards the sanction.
Keep a scanned copy of everything you send. If a document goes missing between the institution and the district office, having the scan and the courier receipt saves an entire academic year.
How to check your application and payment status
- Log in at postmatric-scholarship.cg.nic.in with your registered credentials.
- Open the application status or track-application screen and read the stage shown, institution level, district level, or sanctioned.
- If the status is sanctioned but not credited, check the bank account and Aadhaar seeding first, as a failed credit almost always traces back to the account.
- If the status has not moved for weeks, contact the district nodal officer for your home district, whose contact details are published on the portal.
Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them
- Income certificate above the category limit. The OBC ceiling of Rs 1.00 lakh is strict. A fresh certificate is needed, not an appeal.
- Income or caste certificate expired — many districts treat certificates older than one financial year as stale for income. Get a current one.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the marksheet and the bank account. Correct the record that is wrong, usually the bank record, before reapplying.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, or an account in a parent's name. DBT will not release into either.
- No NSP OTR number, which blocks submission entirely.
- Institution not recognised, or the bonafide certificate missing the course and year. Ask the institution to reissue it on letterhead with a stamp.
- Applied after the deadline. Late applications are not entertained once the window closes.
Key dates for academic year 2026-27
- Renewal applications: 20 June 2026 to 30 December 2026
- Fresh applications: 1 August 2026 to 30 December 2026
Renewal opens earlier than fresh application because continuing students already exist on the system. A continuing student who mistakenly files as a fresh applicant creates a duplicate that has to be cancelled, so use the renewal route if you drew the scholarship last year.
Where to complain if the scholarship is stuck
The portal publishes a district nodal officer list, and that officer is the first authority for a stuck file. Above the district, the Tribal, Scheduled Caste, Backward Classes and Minority Development Department at tribal.cg.gov.in is the administrative department for all three schemes and handles escalations. There is no fee at any stage; no agent can charge you for "getting the scholarship sanctioned".

Frequently asked questions
Can a Chhattisgarh student studying in another state get a Chhattisgarh scholarship?
Yes. The Chhattisgarh post-matric scholarship portal explicitly covers students studying both inside and outside the state, provided the student holds a Chhattisgarh domicile and a Chhattisgarh-issued caste certificate. The institution outside the state must be a recognised one, and the application is still filed on the Chhattisgarh portal, not on the host state's portal.
What is the income limit for this scholarship?
Family income must not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh a year for SC and ST students and Rs 1.00 lakh a year for OBC students, according to the Chhattisgarh post-matric scholarship portal. Income is proved by a current income certificate from the tehsildar or the competent revenue officer.
When does the application window open for 2026-27?
Fresh applications for academic year 2026-27 open on 1 August 2026 and close on 30 December 2026, while renewal applications run from 20 June 2026 to 30 December 2026. The portal publishes these dates on its home page and extends them by public notice in some years.
Do I have to register on the National Scholarship Portal as well?
You need an NSP One Time Registration (OTR) number before the Chhattisgarh application can be completed. The state portal asks for the OTR, so generate it first with your Aadhaar, then return to postmatric-scholarship.cg.nic.in and log in.
Which categories are covered?
Three schemes run on the same portal, Post Matric SC Scholarship, Post Matric ST Scholarship and Post Matric OBC Scholarship. General category students are not covered by these three schemes.
How is the scholarship money paid?
Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account. An account in a parent's name will not be accepted, and an account that is dormant or not Aadhaar-seeded is the most common cause of a failed credit.
What happens if my application is rejected?
Rejection reasons are shown against your application on the portal, and in most cases the file can be corrected and resubmitted while the window is open. The district nodal officer listed on the portal for your home district is the person to approach for anything the portal will not let you fix yourself.
