Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children
Goa state government scheme
Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children is a Tiatr Academy of Goa competition scheme for primary and secondary school students, with cash prizes of Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 across four acting categories, Rs 2,000 for the best script writer, certificates for winners and transport charges for participating schools. Entries are submitted offline at Campal, Panaji.
What is the Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children scheme?
Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children is a competition scheme of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, the body under the Department of Art, Culture and Museums, Government of Goa, that exists to preserve and develop tiatr; Goa's own Konkani musical theatre form.
The scheme addresses a straightforward problem. Tiatr depends on stage acting skill passed from one generation to the next, and school students in Goa have few structured opportunities to test that skill in front of professional judges. The Academy therefore runs organised acting competitions for primary school level and secondary school level students, with cash prizes, certificates and transport reimbursement for the schools that send participants.
Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children is a prize scheme, not a grant scheme. There is no application for financial assistance, a student enters a competition, performs, and wins or does not.

- Four categories: monologue and dialogue, in comedy and non-comedy acting.
- Cash prizes from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000, plus Rs 2,000 for the best script writer in each category.
- Participation certificates for all winners.
- Transport charges paid to each participating school at a rate fixed by the Academy.
- Performances judged on six acting criteria by judges versed in acting and direction.

Alongside the cash prizes, the Academy awards participation certificates to all winners and pays transport charges remuneration to each participating school, at a rate the Academy fixes.
Who is eligible to take part?
You can take part if:
- You are a school student at primary school level or secondary school level.
- You participate through your respective school, not independently.
- Your performance runs between 4 and 7 minutes.
- You submit a typed copy of the script with the application form.
- Your script contains no adverse remarks against any government, individual or institution, and nothing against caste, creed or religion.
You cannot take part, or are not eligible, if:
- You are not enrolled at primary or secondary school level: college students and out-of-school participants are not eligible.
- You try to enter independently rather than through your school.
- Your script is handwritten, since a typed copy is required.
- Your performance runs shorter than 4 minutes or longer than 7 minutes.
- Your script or performance hurts the sentiments of anybody, or carries adverse remarks against a government, individual, institution, caste, creed or religion.
Participation rules: one student of a school can participate in each category, and a student entering more than one category must submit a separate application for each.
What are the four categories?
- Monologue (Comedy Acting) — a solo comic piece.
- Dialogue (Comedy Acting). A comic scene played with others on stage.
- Monologue (Non-Comedy Acting). A solo serious piece.
- Dialogue (Non-Comedy Acting). A serious scene played with others.
A minimum of four entries is required in a category for the competition to be conducted in that category. If fewer entries come in, that category is not held in that cycle.
How to apply for the Tiatr acting competition
- Take a printout of the prescribed application form for the Promotion of Acting in Tiatr for School Children scheme, and decide which of the four categories you are entering.
- Fill in all mandatory fields, including the landline and cell phone contact numbers the Academy needs to inform the school of the competition schedule, then sign and date the form.
- Attach a typed copy of the script for the performance, checked to make sure it carries no adverse remarks against any government, individual, institution, caste, creed or religion.
- Submit separate application forms if you are entering more than one category.
- Deliver the form and script to the Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1/AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001, and keep a copy of everything submitted along with any acknowledgement.
How is the competition judged?
The Academy appoints a panel of judges well versed in acting and direction, and the assessment is deliberately limited to acting ability. Six criteria are scored:
- Delivery of dialogues
- Facial expression
- Reaction to others on the stage
- Movement on the stage
- Costumes
- Overall impact
Light effects and background music are not considered in the judging. That matters practically. A school should not spend on production values that carry no marks. The decision of the judges is final and binding.
What happens after you apply?
- Await the competition schedule. The Academy organises the competition once the minimum of four entries is received in a category.
- Perform. Your acting is judged on the six criteria by the appointed panel, within the 4 to 7 minute limit.
- Receive results and benefits. Winners receive the cash prize for their category and position, along with a participation certificate, and the participating school receives its transport charges remuneration.
Common reasons an entry does not go through
- Script not typed, or not submitted at all with the form.
- One form used for multiple categories, when separate forms are required.
- Performance outside the 4 to 7 minute window.
- Script with objectionable content against a government, individual, institution, caste, creed or religion.
- Fewer than four entries in the chosen category, so the category is not held.
- Entry made outside the school, when participation must be routed through the student's school.
Where to get help
- Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1/AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001.
- Tiatr Academy of Goa department page on goa.gov.in, for official notices and the Academy's directory listing.
- Directorate of Art and Culture, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji, phone 0832-2404600, for the wider set of Goa art and culture schemes.
No verified dedicated telephone helpline is published for this scheme, so this guide does not list one. Schools should contact the Academy's Campal office directly for the current competition calendar.
A note on scope
This is a Tier 3 competition scheme with a compact published framework: four categories, fixed prize amounts, a script requirement, a performance duration, six judging criteria and an offline entry route. This guide covers that framework completely rather than padding it. Schools interested in the Academy's other tiatr work; including its book purchase and exhibition scheme for writers and publishers of books on tiatr, its song and music: should approach the same Campal office.
How to check your application status
There is no online portal, tracking number or SMS system for this scheme; the Tiatr Academy of Goa runs it entirely on paper, so checking status means following up directly with the Academy rather than logging into any system.
- Confirm receipt first. When the school submits the application form and typed script at the Campal office, ask for an acknowledgement (a stamped receipt copy, a signature on the school's duplicate, or a receiving register entry). This is the only proof of submission that exists, since the scheme has no digital acknowledgement.
- Follow up through the school, not the student. The Academy corresponds with the participating school on the landline or cell number given on the application form, not with individual students, so the school's contact person should be the one checking status.
- Call or visit the Campal office at Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1/AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001, to ask whether the minimum of four entries has been reached in the category entered and whether a competition date has been fixed.
- Watch for the Academy's own notice of the competition schedule. Since a category is only held once it crosses four entries, an application can sit for a while with nothing to report; that is normal and not a rejection, but it is worth reconfirming every few weeks if no schedule has been announced.
- After the competition itself, status becomes visible directly: results, cash prizes and certificates are given out at the event, so there is no separate post-result status to track beyond collecting the prize amount and certificate through the school.
- If a school submitted an entry and hears nothing for an extended period with no competition announced for that category, that most often means the four-entry minimum has not yet been met, not that the entry was lost; the Campal office can confirm the current entry count for the category on request.

Does the school get anything for taking part?
Yes. Transport charges are paid to each participating school at a rate fixed by the Tiatr Academy of Goa, and participation certificates are awarded to all winners.
What if very few students enter a category?
A minimum of four entries is required in a category for the competition to be conducted in that category, so a category with fewer entries is not held that cycle.
