Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography & Dancing
Goa state government scheme
Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography & Dancing is a Tiatr Academy of Goa competition for groups of 6 to 10 performers. Cash prizes run from Rs 2,000 for best choreographer to Rs 7,000 for first place, plus travelling allowance of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. Entries go in offline, 30 days before the programme.
What is Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography & Dancing?
Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography & Dancing is a scheme of the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), Government of Goa, run under the Art, Culture and Museums Department. The scheme promotes Konkani songs by presenting them with choreography and dancing, with the stated aim of attracting youth towards Konkani kantar and improving the presentation quality of Konkani cultural performances.
The scheme takes the form of a competition. A group of 6 to 10 participants submits a recording of one selected Konkani song at the time of application, and performs that song with choreography and dancing at a venue and on a date communicated by TAG. Winners receive cash prizes with mementos and certificates, and every participating group receives a travelling allowance based on the distance it travels.
Applications for this scheme are accepted offline.
What does the scheme pay?
Cash prizes for performance
| Prize | Amount | Also given |
|---|---|---|
| First prize | Rs 7,000 | Memento and certificate |
| Second prize | Rs 5,000 | Memento and certificate |
| Third prize | Rs 3,000 | Memento and certificate |
| Special prize for best choreographer | Rs 2,000 | Memento and certificate |
Travelling allowance
| Distance travelled | Allowance |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 kilometre radius | Rs 1,000 |
| Within 10 to 20 kilometre radius | Rs 1,500 |
| 20 kilometres or more | Rs 2,000 |
The travelling allowance is what makes the scheme workable for groups from Sattari, Canacona, Pernem and the other talukas at a distance from the venue, since it is paid on distance rather than on placing in the competition.
The best choreographer prize is separate from the three performance prizes, which is why the name of the choreographer is a required entry on the application form. A group can therefore win a place prize and the choreographer prize in the same edition.
Who is eligible for this competition?
You can apply if:
- You form a group consisting of 6 to 10 participants.
- You submit a recording of one selected Konkani song at the time of application.
- You do not perform a fusion of songs.
- You abide by all rules and regulations of the competition organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa.
- You accept that the decision of the judges will be final and binding.
You are not eligible if:
- Your group has fewer than 6 or more than 10 participants. A solo singer or a duo cannot apply under this scheme, and should look at the Konkani Song & Music Awards instead, which has solo, duet, duo, trio and quartet categories.
- You do not submit the song recording with the application. The recording is an application-stage document, not something that can follow later.
- You perform a fusion of songs, which results in automatic disqualification.
- You apply less than 30 days before the proposed programme date.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Copy of the recorded Konkani song on CD or DVD | Yes | The one selected song, submitted with the application |
| Contact details including phone number and email address | Yes | TAG uses these to communicate venue and date |
| Names of all participants (6 to 10 members) | Yes | Every member must be named |
| Name of the choreographer | Yes | Determines eligibility for the Rs 2,000 special prize |
How to apply for this scheme
- Take a printout of the prescribed format of the application form from the Tiatr Academy of Goa Citizen's Charter published on goa.gov.in, or collect the form from the TAG office.
- Fill in all the mandatory fields, attach self-attested copies of all the mandatory documents, sign the form and mention the date.
- Attach the recording of the one selected Konkani song on CD or DVD, the names of all 6 to 10 participants, the name of the choreographer, and the group's phone number and email address.
- Submit the duly filled and signed application with the documents to Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1 / AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001.
- Ensure the application reaches the office at least 30 days in advance of the proposed programme date, and keep a copy of the form and the acknowledgement.
What happens after you apply
- Competition details. The Tiatr Academy of Goa communicates the venue, date and other competition details to the participating groups. This is why a working phone number and email address are mandatory on the form.
- Participate in the competition. Attend at the designated venue and perform the registered Konkani song with choreography and dancing. The song performed must be the one submitted with the application.
- Judging and prizes. A panel of judges appointed by TAG decides the winners. Cash prizes are handed over with mementos and certificates, and the travelling allowance is paid according to the distance band.
Key dates and how entries are ranked
The scheme has no fixed annual calendar date published in the scheme note. What it has instead is a 30-day advance rule tied to the proposed programme date, and a first come first serve rule for considering applications, subject to the availability of funds.
The practical consequence is that two things can defeat an otherwise valid entry: applying inside the 30-day window, and applying after the year's funds have been committed to earlier groups. Groups that plan their song and choreography early and file as soon as the programme date is known are in a materially better position than those who wait.
Why entries are rejected or disqualified
- Fusion of songs performed, which the scheme note treats as automatic disqualification.
- Group size outside the 6 to 10 range.
- Song recording not submitted with the application on CD or DVD.
- A different song performed from the one registered.
- Application filed less than 30 days before the proposed programme date.
- Funds exhausted for the year before the entry is reached.
- Choreographer not named, which forfeits consideration for the Rs 2,000 special prize.
- Contact details missing or wrong, so TAG cannot communicate the venue and date.
How this scheme differs from the Konkani Song & Music Awards
Both schemes are run by the Tiatr Academy of Goa and both reward Konkani song, but they work differently. Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography & Dancing is a live group competition judged on a staged performance, open to groups of 6 to 10 with prizes up to Rs 7,000. The Konkani Song & Music Awards (Tiatr Kantaram) rewards recorded albums of tiatr songs across twelve categories with awards from Rs 5,000 to Rs 30,000, judged from submitted audio discs rather than a stage performance. A performer active in both fields can enter both, but the entry conditions and the documents are separate.
Where to apply and get help
Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1 / AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001. The scheme note and the prescribed form are published in the TAG Citizen's Charter on goa.gov.in, and the form can also be collected at the office. There is no entry fee.
How to check your application status
This is an offline, paper-based competition entry, not an online application, so there is no portal login, tracking ID or SMS update to check against. The practical way a group finds out where its entry stands is direct follow-up with the Tiatr Academy of Goa.
- Keep the acknowledgement. When the application is submitted at the TAG office, ask for the receiving stamp or an acknowledgement slip with the date of submission noted on it. This is the only proof that the entry was received, since there is no system-generated reference number for this scheme.
- Call or visit the TAG office at Campal Trade Centre, Panaji, and quote the group's name and the date the application was submitted. Since the form captures the group's phone number and email address, staff can look up the entry against these details even without a tracking number.
- Wait to be contacted for venue and date. Once an entry is accepted, the Tiatr Academy of Goa is expected to reach out on the phone number or email given on the form to communicate the competition venue, date and other details. If a group has not heard anything as its proposed programme date approaches, that is the signal to follow up rather than assume rejection.
- Confirm contact details are current. Because the scheme communicates entirely through the phone number and email submitted with the form, a group that changes its contact person or number after applying should inform the TAG office directly, since there is no online form to update these details.
- After the competition, the outcome (placing, choreographer prize and travelling allowance due) is announced and settled at the event itself through the judging panel, so no separate post-result status check is normally needed once the group has performed.
There is no email or web based tracking system published for this scheme, so phone or in-person contact with the Tiatr Academy of Goa office remains the only way to check on a pending entry.
