What is Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is a monthly cash-transfer scheme of the Women & Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra, announced in the state budget of June 2024 and launched from 28 June 2024. The scheme is commonly written as "Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana" or simply "Ladki Bahin Yojana", and all three spellings refer to the same programme.

According to the scheme portal at ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in, the stated purpose is the economic freedom of women in Maharashtra aged 21 to 65, improvement of their health and nutrition, and a stronger say for women in decisions taken inside the household. Maharashtra pays the benefit entirely from state funds; there is no central government share.

Main features

  • Rs 1,500 per month, that is Rs 18,000 per year, per eligible woman.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the woman's own Aadhaar-linked account.
  • Applications are free, both online and at assisted centres.
  • Maximum two women per family may be enrolled.
  • The scheme is one of the largest state welfare programmes in India by beneficiary count, with roughly 1.5 crore women drawing it after the 2025-26 verification drive and about Rs 26,000 crore provided in the 2026-27 state budget.

Who is eligible for Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana?

A woman can receive the benefit if:

  • She is a resident of Maharashtra, holding a domicile certificate, birth certificate, school leaving certificate or a 15-year residence proof.
  • She is aged between 21 and 65 years on the date of application.
  • Her family's annual income does not exceed Rs 2,50,000.
  • She is married, widowed, divorced, deserted or destitute. One unmarried woman per family is also covered.
  • She holds a bank account in her own name, seeded with Aadhaar and enabled for DBT.
  • She is an outsourced, contractual or voluntary worker of a government body whose own earnings stay within Rs 2.5 lakh a year, such workers are specifically included rather than excluded.

A woman is not eligible and cannot apply if any of the following applies to her family:

  • Combined family income above Rs 2.5 lakh a year.
  • Any family member is an income-tax payer.
  • Any family member is a regular or permanent employee of the central government, the state government, a local body, a government undertaking or a board, or draws a government pension. Contractual, outsourced and honorarium workers within the income limit are the exception and stay eligible.
  • Any family member is a sitting or former Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislative Assembly, or holds or held office as chairperson, director or member of a government board, corporation or undertaking.
  • The family owns a four-wheeled vehicle. A tractor does not count against the family.
  • The woman already draws Rs 1,500 or more per month from another state or central financial-benefit scheme. Where the other benefit is smaller, the difference may be paid.
  • More than two women from the same family are already enrolled.

The Women & Child Development Department defines "family" for this scheme as the husband, wife and their dependent children, which is why an income-tax return filed by a husband disqualifies the wife.

How to apply for Ladki Bahin Yojana online

  1. Open the official portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in or install the Narishakti Doot mobile app published by the Government of Maharashtra.
  2. Select Applicant Login, then Create Account, and register using your own mobile number. Verify the OTP sent to that number.
  3. Log in and open the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana application form. Enter your Aadhaar number and pull your details; check that the name, date of birth and address exactly match your Aadhaar card, because a mismatch is the single biggest cause of rejection.
  4. Fill in family details, income details and ration card type, then enter the bank account number and IFSC of an account in your own name.
  5. Upload the scanned documents, Aadhaar, residence proof, income certificate or ration card, photograph and the signed undertaking.
  6. Submit the form and save or screenshot the application number shown on the acknowledgement screen.
  7. Complete e-KYC when prompted. This step is not optional; the state removed a very large number of enrolled women in the 2025-26 verification purely for not finishing e-KYC.

How to apply for Ladki Bahin Yojana offline

  1. Visit your nearest Anganwadi centre, Setu Suvidha Kendra, Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra or the ward office of your municipal corporation with original documents and photocopies.
  2. Ask the Anganwadi Sevika, Gram Sevika, ASHA worker, supervisor or ward officer to fill the form on the portal on your behalf. There is no fee for this assistance.
  3. Give your fingerprint or OTP for Aadhaar e-KYC at the centre.
  4. Collect the printed acknowledgement carrying your application number and keep it until the first Rs 1,500 is credited.

The department publishes ward-wise and village-wise provisional lists at the Anganwadi centre and invites objections for a short window before final approval.

How much does Ladki Bahin Yojana pay and when?

Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana pays Rs 1,500 per month. Payment is made monthly by DBT, though in practice the state has often released a month's instalment in the middle of the following month, and has at times paid two months together. Beneficiaries receive an SMS on the registered mobile number when the credit is made.

The transfer goes only to an account in the woman's own name. A joint account with a husband, a dormant account, or an account not seeded with Aadhaar at the NPCI mapper will fail the DBT run even when the application itself is approved.

How to check your Ladki Bahin Yojana status

  1. Open ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in and choose Applicant Login.
  2. Sign in with the registered mobile number and the OTP.
  3. Open the application dashboard, which shows the current stage, pending at Anganwadi level, pending at supervisor level, approved, or rejected with a reason.
  4. Where the status shows approved but no money has arrived, check the DBT seeding of your account at your bank branch or through the NPCI Aadhaar mapper status option at any bank.

Why Ladki Bahin Yojana applications get rejected or names get removed

  • e-KYC not completed, the largest single reason for removal in the verification drive.
  • Income-tax return filed by any member of the family.
  • Four-wheeler registered in a family member's name.
  • Government service or government pension in the family.
  • Doubtful or false income certificate detected during cross-verification.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the bank account and the application.
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or not in the applicant's own name.
  • Third woman from the same family applying beyond the two-beneficiary cap.
  • Drawing Rs 1,500 or more a month from another government scheme.

Most of these are fixable. A name mismatch is corrected by updating Aadhaar or the bank record and then re-running e-KYC. A seeding failure is corrected at the bank branch by submitting the DBT seeding consent form. An income certificate objection is answered by producing a fresh Tahsildar certificate.

Key dates for Ladki Bahin Yojana

  • 28 June 2024 — scheme announced in the Maharashtra state budget and launched.
  • 31 August 2024; first extension of the original application window.
  • 30 September 2024, window extended again for fresh enrolment.
  • 2025-26: statewide verification and e-KYC drive; a large number of ineligible and non-e-KYC beneficiaries removed from the rolls.
  • 2026-27 state budget: about Rs 26,000 crore provided for the scheme.

Since the initial window closed, Maharashtra has opened enrolment in phases rather than keeping a permanent rolling window. Because the department has not published a standing last date, treat the portal's own notice board as the authority before assuming applications are open.

Where to complain about Ladki Bahin Yojana

  • Women helpline 181 for pending applications, wrongly removed names and payment complaints.
  • District Women & Child Development Officer in every district, and the Child Development Project Officer at taluka level, handle scheme grievances.
  • Municipal ward office for urban applicants.
  • Anganwadi supervisor for corrections at the data-entry stage.

No fee, commission or "processing charge" is payable to anyone for enrolment, approval or restoration of a name under this scheme. No government official will ask for your Aadhaar OTP over the phone.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana give every month?

Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana pays Rs 1,500 per month, which works out to Rs 18,000 a year, credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into the woman's own Aadhaar-linked bank account. There is no separate lump sum and no extra instalment for a second woman in the same family beyond the two-women cap.

What is the age limit for Ladki Bahin Yojana?

Women aged 21 to 65 years can receive the benefit. A woman who has not yet turned 21 cannot apply, and payment stops once a beneficiary crosses 65.

Who is not eligible for Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana?

Families with annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh, any income-tax paying member, a regular or permanent government employee or government pensioner, a sitting or former MP or MLA, or ownership of a four-wheeler other than a tractor are all excluded. More than two women from the same family also cannot be enrolled.

Is an income certificate compulsory for Ladki Bahin Yojana?

No, not for every applicant. Women holding a yellow or orange ration card are treated as being below the Rs 2.5 lakh income line and need not attach a separate income certificate. White ration card holders and applicants without a ration card must submit a Tahsildar-issued income certificate.

Why was my Ladki Bahin Yojana name removed from the list?

The most common reason is incomplete e-KYC. During the 2025-26 verification drive the state removed a large share of enrolled women, and the biggest single group was those who never finished e-KYC. Other removals followed income-tax records, a four-wheeler in the family, a doubtful income certificate or an Aadhaar-to-bank name mismatch.

Can a woman apply for Ladki Bahin Yojana without a domicile certificate?

Yes. A birth certificate, school leaving certificate or a 15-year residence certificate is accepted instead of a formal domicile certificate. A woman born in another state but married to a Maharashtra domicile holder can submit her husband's birth certificate, domicile certificate or 15-year residence proof.

How do I check my Ladki Bahin Yojana payment status?

Log in to ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in with the mobile number used at registration and open the applicant login dashboard, which shows whether the application is approved, pending or rejected and which instalments were released. The Narishakti Doot app shows the same status.

Is there any fee to apply for Ladki Bahin Yojana?

No. The Women & Child Development Department has made the application free, whether you file it yourself online or through an Anganwadi worker, Setu Suvidha Kendra, Gram Sevika, ASHA worker or ward office. No agent may charge for adding a name to the list.
