A note on sourcing before you read further
Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana is very new, and this guide should be read with that in mind. The scheme's announcement, launch date, benefit amounts and registration rollout are consistently reported across multiple sources, but at the time of writing no notification page for the scheme could be reached on a Punjab government domain, and the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development website did not carry a dedicated page for it.
Everything below is therefore reported as announced, with the figures attributed rather than asserted. Before acting on any number here, confirm it at your nearest Sewa Kendra or with the district Social Security Officer. This page will be updated once a departmental notification is available.
What is Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana is Punjab's monthly direct cash assistance scheme for adult women, run through the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, Punjab. The name translates roughly as a scheme honouring mothers and daughters, and the scheme is also referred to in announcements as the Maa-Beti Samman Yojana.
The scheme was announced on 8 March 2026, International Women's Day, and formally launched on 14 April 2026 by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at a public event at Adampur in Jalandhar district. The reported budget allocation is about Rs 9,300 crore, covering an estimated beneficiary population running into tens of lakhs of women across all 117 assembly constituencies of Punjab.
It is the implementation of a long-standing commitment by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab to pay a monthly amount to every adult woman in the state, and it belongs to a family of similar unconditional women's cash-transfer schemes now running in several Indian states.
How much is paid, and when?
As announced:
| Category | Monthly amount |
|---|---|
| Woman aged 18 or above, general category | Rs 1,000 per month |
| Scheduled Caste woman | Rs 1,500 per month |
Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's own Aadhaar-linked bank account, with payments announced to begin from 1 July 2026.
Two features of that structure matter in practice. First, the money goes into an account in the woman's own name, not a household account and not a joint account operated by a husband or father. Second, because it is DBT, the credit depends entirely on the Aadhaar seeding of that account being correct at the bank, which is a technical matter the beneficiary has to get right at the branch, not at the Sewa Kendra.
Who is eligible for the scheme?
You can apply if:
- You are a woman aged 18 years or above.
- You are a resident of Punjab.
- You hold an Aadhaar card showing a Punjab address, or another accepted residence proof.
- You hold, or can open, a bank account in your own name that is seeded with your Aadhaar.
The scheme has been described as near-universal for adult women in Punjab, without a poverty test being reported as a condition of entry.
You are not eligible if:
- You are under 18 years of age.
- You are not a resident of Punjab.
- You have no bank account in your own name, in which case you must open one before the payment can reach you, even if your registration succeeds.
Cash-transfer schemes of this type in other states commonly exclude income-tax payers, serving government employees and women drawing another state pension. Whether Punjab has applied any such exclusions has not been established on any source that could be verified, and this guide will not guess at them. Ask at your Sewa Kendra, because an exclusion you did not know about is the likeliest reason a registration is later cancelled.
How to apply for Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana
- Check whether registration is open in your constituency. Registration opened in nine pilot constituencies from 15 April 2026 and was extended to the remaining 108 constituencies from 5 May 2026, so the rollout has been staggered rather than simultaneous.
- Go to your nearest Sewa Kendra, or to a government registration camp held in your area, with your Aadhaar card, bank passbook, residence proof and mobile number. Online registration was announced alongside the offline route.
- Fill the registration form with your name exactly as it appears on Aadhaar, your bank account number and IFSC code, and your mobile number. A Scheduled Caste applicant claiming the higher rate attaches the caste certificate here.
- Have the operator verify your Aadhaar and submit the form.
- Collect the acknowledgement carrying your registration number, and keep it. Every later query about your payment is traced through it.
- Confirm at your bank branch that the account is Aadhaar-seeded and active. This single step prevents the commonest failure in DBT schemes.
How to check your registration and payment
Contact the Sewa Kendra where you registered with your registration number, or the district Social Security Officer under the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development. Where an online registration portal is operating in your constituency, the same login used at registration will show the application status.
Payment alerts are sent by SMS to the registered mobile number, so a number that is working and correctly recorded is not a formality here.
How the rollout was staggered across Punjab
The scheme did not open everywhere at once, and a woman finding that her neighbour in the next constituency registered weeks before she could is seeing the rollout design rather than an error.
Registration opened first in nine pilot constituencies from 15 April 2026, the day after the launch event, and was extended to the remaining 108 constituencies from 5 May 2026. The pilot approach is the standard method for a scheme of this scale: it lets the department test the Aadhaar verification, the bank-seeding checks and the camp logistics on a manageable number of applicants before opening to the whole state.
The practical consequence is that registration dates, camp schedules and processing speed differ by constituency. Your own constituency's schedule is the one that governs you, and the Sewa Kendra covering your area is the authority on it. A date circulating on social media for a different district tells you nothing about your own.
What this scheme is, and what it is not
Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana is an unconditional cash transfer. Unlike a scholarship, a pension or a maternity benefit, it does not require the beneficiary to be studying, to be widowed, to be above a certain age beyond 18, or to have given birth. The reported design is near-universal for adult women resident in Punjab, and it is that universality that produces the very large reported allocation of about Rs 9,300 crore.
It is not a loan, and nothing is repayable. It is not a one-time grant β the announced structure is a recurring monthly payment. And it is not linked to any purchase or scheme condition: the money arrives in the account and is the woman's to use.
It is also separate from Punjab's existing social security pensions, which the same department runs for widows, destitute women, old-age beneficiaries and persons with disabilities. Those pensions have their own eligibility rules and their own application routes, and a woman who already draws one should not assume that this registration replaces it or that the two are mutually exclusive. Whether the two can be drawn together has not been established on any verifiable source, and it is one of the first questions to ask at the Sewa Kendra.
Common reasons a payment does not arrive
- Bank account not seeded with Aadhaar, so the DBT credit is rejected at the bank.
- Account in joint names or in a relative's name rather than the beneficiary's own.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record, a very common problem where a woman's name changed after marriage on one record but not the other.
- Dormant account that the bank has frozen for inactivity.
- Aadhaar address outside Punjab, which fails the residence condition.
- Registration not yet processed, particularly in constituencies that entered the rollout later.
Most of these are fixed at the bank branch, not at the Sewa Kendra. A woman whose neighbours have been paid and who has not been should check her account's Aadhaar seeding status first, before assuming her registration failed.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana pay?
As announced by the Punjab government, a woman aged 18 or above receives Rs 1,000 per month and a Scheduled Caste woman receives Rs 1,500 per month, paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into an Aadhaar-linked bank account. Confirm the rate applicable to you at your Sewa Kendra, as no departmental notification page could be reached to verify the figures independently.
Who is eligible for the Punjab women's monthly assistance scheme?
Women aged 18 years and above who are residents of Punjab are the stated beneficiary group, with the scheme described as near-universal across the state's 117 assembly constituencies. Girls under 18 and women who are not residents of Punjab are not eligible.
When was the scheme launched and when do payments start?
The scheme was announced on 8 March 2026, International Women's Day, and formally launched on 14 April 2026 at a public event in Adampur, Jalandhar. Payments were announced to begin from 1 July 2026.
How do I register for Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana?
Registration is done at Sewa Kendras and at government registration camps held in the constituency, with online registration announced alongside. Registration opened first in nine pilot constituencies from 15 April 2026 and was extended to the remaining 108 constituencies from 5 May 2026.
Do I need a bank account in my own name?
Yes. The assistance is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer, so the account must be in the woman's own name and seeded with her Aadhaar number. A joint account held with a husband or a father is the most common reason a DBT credit fails in schemes of this kind.
Is this the same as the Rs 1,000 per month promised before the elections?
The scheme is the implementation of the Aam Aadmi Party government's commitment of a monthly payment to adult women in Punjab, with a reported allocation of about Rs 9,300 crore. The name used in official announcements is Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, also referred to as the Maa-Beti Samman Yojana.
Can a woman already drawing an old-age or widow pension also get this?
This has not been settled on any source that could be verified. Punjab's existing social security pensions are run by the same department, and whether the two can be drawn together is exactly the kind of condition set in the scheme notification. Ask at the Sewa Kendra before assuming either way.
Is there any fee to register?
No. Registration for a state welfare scheme in Punjab is free at Sewa Kendras and at government camps. Anyone demanding money to add a woman's name to the beneficiary list is running a fraud.
