Skill India Digital Hub vs SWAYAM vs eSkillIndia: Which Should You Use?

This is a supporting guide for Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.

Skill India Digital Hub vs SWAYAM vs eSkillIndia, the short answer

Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) is the government's job-oriented skilling and credentialing platform with NCVET-recognised certificates pushed to DigiLocker. SWAYAM is for academic, university-level courses from institutions like the IITs and IGNOU. eSkillIndia is an older NSQF-aligned course repository now folded into the wider Skill India ecosystem. Choose SIDH for a verifiable, employment-linked skill credential; SWAYAM for academic credit. You can use all three, they are not mutually exclusive. The Skill India Digital Hub pillar explains SIDH in full.

What each platform is for

  • Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship's single national platform, launched 13 September 2023. Over 2,900 courses, apprenticeship and job listings, Aadhaar e-KYC, and NCVET-recognised, NSQF-aligned certificates delivered to DigiLocker. It unifies PMKVY 4.0, NAPS, Jan Shikshan Sansthan and PM Vishwakarma on one lifelong account.
  • SWAYAM — the Ministry of Education's MOOC platform for academic and university-level courses. Learning is free; a SWAYAM certificate requires a proctored exam at a fee, and courses can carry academic credit transfer.
  • eSkillIndia. An NSDC digital-learning repository of NSQF-aligned skill courses in multiple Indian languages, positioned as a content library rather than a full skilling-plus-employment platform.

Who each one suits

  • A job-seeker or worker who wants a certificate an employer can verify, plus access to apprenticeships and jobs, should use SIDH. The DigiLocker credential and QR-coded digital CV are the differentiators.
  • A student or professional wanting rigorous academic content, possibly for credit transfer to a degree, should use SWAYAM.
  • A learner who simply wants free NSQF skill content in a regional language can use eSkillIndia, though much of that value now sits inside SIDH.

Can you use more than one?

Yes. These platforms are complementary, not competing benefit schemes, so there is no "hold both" restriction to worry about. A common combination is to take an academic SWAYAM course for depth and a SIDH vocational course for an employer-verifiable credential and job linkage. Because SIDH is the platform that carries apprenticeships and NCVET certification to DigiLocker, most working-age learners should treat SIDH as the primary account and the others as supplements.

Which should you choose first?

Start with Skill India Digital Hub if your goal is employment: the certificate is verifiable, portable through DigiLocker, and connected to apprenticeships and jobs on the same platform. Add SWAYAM if you also need academic depth or credit. Use eSkillIndia only for specific regional-language content you cannot find on SIDH.

One caution repeated from the pillar: SIDH is not a cash-benefit scheme, and neither is SWAYAM or eSkillIndia. Nobody pays you to register. Any stipend comes from an underlying scheme such as an apprenticeship under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, on that scheme's terms.

In short

For most job-seekers, Skill India Digital Hub is the right primary choice because it combines free courses, verifiable NCVET certification and employment linkage in one lifelong account. SWAYAM wins for academic study, and eSkillIndia is a supplementary content library. Registration on all three is free: verify course fees on each course page before enrolling.
