Top Class Education in College for OBC, EBC and DNT Students: How to Check Application and Payment Status

Track your application for Top Class Education in College for OBC, EBC and DNT Students on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. Log in with your application ID, open Check Your Status, and read the stage shown; Applied, Verified by Institute, Verified by Ministry, Defective or Sanctioned. The scholarship is a PM-YASASVI component of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, and every payment head reaches you by Direct Benefit Transfer once the ministry sanctions your file. For the full eligibility and benefit picture, see the parent guide.

Where status lives: one portal, two stages

Your file moves through two systems. Verification and sanction happen on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in); the actual money then flows through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) as a DBT credit. Application status tells you where your form sits; payment status tells you whether the credit has been released. Both are checked from the same NSP login.

How to check application status step by step

  1. Open scholarships.gov.in and click Login under the Applicant Corner.
  2. Sign in with your application ID and password created during registration.
  3. On the dashboard, open Check Your Status (also labelled Track Application).
  4. Read the current stage against your PM-YASASVI Top Class application for the year.
  5. If the status is Defective, open the remarks, correct the form within the defective-application window, and resubmit. A defective form that is never corrected is not sanctioned.

What each status means and what to do next

  • Applied / Submitted, the form has reached the portal but no verifier has acted. If it stays here near the deadline, contact your institution's nodal officer, because the form cannot advance without institute-level verification.
  • Verified by Institute; your college's nodal officer has confirmed your admission and details; the file now waits with the ministry. No action needed.
  • Verified by Ministry / Sanctioned. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has approved the scholarship. Payment is queued for DBT.
  • Defective — a field or document was flagged. Read the exact remark, fix only what is flagged, and resubmit before the correction window closes.
  • Rejected. The file was declined. The portal records the reason; the companion troubleshooting article for this scheme explains the common causes and the fixes.

How to check payment status

Once the status shows Sanctioned, the disbursement runs through PFMS into your Aadhaar-seeded bank account. To confirm the credit:

  1. On the NSP dashboard, look for a payment or disbursed indicator against the sanctioned application.
  2. Cross-check the credit in your own bank passbook or statement: all heads (tuition, the Rs 3,000 monthly living allowance, the Rs 5,000 books grant and the one-time laptop grant) are paid by DBT into the student's account, not the institution's.
  3. If the status says sanctioned but no money has arrived, the usual cause is an Aadhaar-seeding or account-validation failure at the bank. Confirm your account is active and Aadhaar-linked with your branch.

Why status can stall

The most frequent stall is a form parked at Applied because the institution nodal officer has not verified it. The second is a payment held after sanction because the bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded or the name does not match. Neither is fixed on the portal alone, the first needs your college, the second your bank branch.

FAQ

How long after sanction does the money arrive? The portal does not publish a fixed number; DBT credits typically follow within a few weeks of sanction, subject to PFMS validation of your account.

I forgot my application ID; can I still check status? Use the Forgot Application ID / Password option on scholarships.gov.in to recover it with your registered mobile or email.

Do I check status separately for a renewal? Yes. A renewal is a distinct application each academic year and carries its own status track on the same login.
