What is the Free Pre-Recruitment Training scheme?

Free Pre-Recruitment Training is a scheme of the Directorate of Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation. The Sainik Kalyan evam Punarvas department; of the Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme provides about 8 weeks of free coaching to young men and women who want to join the Indian Armed Forces, the Central Paramilitary Forces or the Uttarakhand State Police. Uttarakhand has a long military tradition, and this scheme is designed to help its youth clear the physical, written and interview stages of recruitment.

According to the Directorate of Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation, the training focuses on three areas: physical fitness (running, endurance and the physical efficiency test), written examination preparation, and personality or interview development. It is delivered through the network of District Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Offices, of which there are 16 offices across the 13 districts of Uttarakhand, so candidates from remote and hill districts can also take part.

The scheme is run in batches rather than continuously. For example, a mid-2025 batch of free pre-recruitment training ran from 16 June to 10 August. Fresh batches are announced by the Directorate and the district offices, so the timing varies from year to year.

Who is eligible for the Free Pre-Recruitment Training?

You can apply if:

• You are a native or permanent resident of Uttarakhand, or you are currently studying or working in an institution within the state.
• You are over 16 years of age. Recent batch announcements set 16 as the floor and align the upper age to the recruitment being targeted.
• You have passed high school (Class 10) with at least 45% marks and a minimum of 33% in each subject, the standard published for recent training batches.
• You are preparing for recruitment into the Military, Paramilitary Forces or State Police, including the Agniveer route into the Army, Navy and Air Force.

You cannot apply if:

• You are not a resident of Uttarakhand and have no study or work connection to the state.
• You are under 16, or you do not meet the 45% high-school aggregate and per-subject minimum for the batch.
• You are looking for a cash stipend, this scheme provides training, not a monetary benefit.

Note that completing the training does not guarantee selection into any force. It improves a candidate's readiness for the recruitment tests, but the actual selection is done by the recruiting agency.

What are the age and education standards in detail?

According to Uttarakhand state announcements on the pre-recruitment training, three conditions decide admission to a batch. First, residence: the candidate must be a native or permanent resident of Uttarakhand, or be studying or serving in an institution located in the state. Second, age: candidates must be over 16 years old, with the upper limit tied to whichever force's recruitment cycle the batch is preparing for. Third, education: the candidate must have passed the high school (Class 10) examination with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks and at least 33% in every subject. These are the same broad thresholds most Army, Agniveer, paramilitary and police recruitments use, which is why the training is built around them rather than a separate cut-off. Girls and boys are both admitted, and the training covers physical, written and interview preparation for whichever recruitment the candidate is aiming at.

The direct benefit is roughly 8 weeks of structured, no-cost coaching that would otherwise cost several thousand rupees at a private academy. Beyond that, defence recruitment in Uttarakhand carries a state-level advantage: the government has announced reservation for Agniveers in Uttarakhand government jobs after their four-year Agniveer service ends, which raises the long-term value of clearing defence recruitment through this training. Because the coaching is delivered inside each district, a candidate from a remote hill block does not have to relocate to Dehradun or Haldwani to prepare, removing both the fee and the living cost that keep many rural aspirants out of formal coaching.

What does the training cover?

The Free Pre-Recruitment Training programme prepares candidates across the full recruitment cycle:

• Physical fitness: timed running, the physical efficiency and physical measurement tests, and general endurance.
• Written examination: practice for the common entrance and written tests used by the Army, Agniveer, paramilitary and police recruitment.
• Personality and interview — guidance for interviews and personality assessment where the recruitment involves one.

Because the training is free and located within each district, it removes the cost of private coaching that many rural aspirants cannot afford. The Uttarakhand government has separately announced reservation benefits for Agniveers in state government jobs after their service period, which adds to the value of preparing for defence recruitment.

1. Watch for a batch announcement from the Directorate of Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation or your District Sainik Welfare Office, notices appear on sainikkalyan.uk.gov.in and at the district offices.
2. Visit your District Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Office in person when the batch is open.
3. Fill the enrolment form and attach your Class 10 marksheet, residence proof, age proof and identity proof.
4. Submit the form at the district office and note any acknowledgement or reporting date given to you.
5. Attend the training at the centre and dates assigned for your district batch.

Since the scheme is offline and batch-based, applying early once a batch is announced improves your chance of a seat.

Common problems and how to avoid them

• Missing the batch window: batches run for a fixed period (for example 16 June to 10 August in a 2025 batch); apply as soon as a notice is issued.
• Residence not proved, carry a valid Uttarakhand domicile or residence certificate.
• Expecting money. This is a training benefit, not a cash scheme; do not apply expecting a stipend.
• Wrong district office: approach the District Sainik Welfare Office covering your area of residence.
