Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana (NCC Cadets, Uttarakhand)
Uttarakhand state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana is a Uttarakhand Department of Education scholarship for NCC cadets, paying Rs 600 to Rs 2,400 a year at unit and group level to cadets who passed class 10 or 12 last session, completed two years of NCC training with 80 per cent attendance and are now in higher education. Applications go through the cadet's NCC unit.
What is the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana for NCC cadets?
Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana is a scholarship of the Department of Education, Government of Uttarakhand, for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets in the state. The scheme gives annual cash scholarships to cadets who have completed their NCC training and moved on to higher education, so that the training does not end when school does.
The scheme is implemented not through a schools office but through the NCC chain of command, the designated Group Headquarters and Unit Offices under the administrative control of the State NCC Directorate. That is the single most important practical fact about it: a cadet does not apply to the Education Department, does not apply on a portal, and does not apply to a college scholarship cell. The application goes to the NCC unit.
Scholarship amounts range from Rs 600 to Rs 2,400 a year, split by two axes: whether the award is made at group level or unit level, and whether the cadet belongs to the Senior Division / Senior Wing or the Junior Division / Junior Wing.
How much does the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana pay?
| Award level | Senior Division / Senior Wing | Junior Division / Junior Wing |
|---|---|---|
| Group level | Rs 2,400 per year | Rs 1,200 per year |
| Unit level | Rs 1,200 per year | Rs 600 per year |
Group-level awards are the larger of the two and are made across a Group Headquarters; unit-level awards are made within an individual NCC unit. Senior Division applies to boy cadets in colleges and Senior Wing to girl cadets in colleges, while Junior Division and Junior Wing are the school-level equivalents.
The amounts are modest by design, this is a recognition and encouragement award for continued participation in education and NCC training, not a maintenance grant that covers fees or hostel costs.
Who is eligible for the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana?
You are eligible if all of the following are true:
- You are an NCC cadet.
- You passed class 10 or class 12, or an equivalent examination, in the previous academic session.
- You have completed two years of NCC training.
- You maintained at least 80 per cent attendance in each year of NCC training.
- You are currently pursuing higher education.
- You are not receiving any other general or special scholarship from the Uttarakhand State Government.
You are not eligible if:
- You are not an NCC cadet, or your school or college has no functioning NCC unit through which the application can be routed.
- You have less than two years of NCC training behind you.
- Your attendance fell below 80 per cent in any one of the training years.
- You stopped studying after passing class 10 or class 12. The scheme requires that the cadet is currently in higher education.
- You are already drawing another State Government scholarship, general or special. Cadets holding a state scholarship must choose between the two.
- You passed the qualifying examination in a session earlier than the previous academic session.
What documents does an NCC cadet need?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Application form in the prescribed format | Yes | Issued by the Group Headquarters or Unit |
| Class 10 or 12 marksheet | Yes | Previous academic session |
| NCC attendance and training record | Yes | Two years, 80% attendance each year |
| Caste certificate certified by the competent authority | Yes | Specified in the scheme's application process |
| Proof of current higher-education enrolment | Yes | Bonafide certificate, admission slip or fee receipt |
| Declaration on other scholarships | Yes | That no other state scholarship is being drawn |
| Bank account details | No | For disbursement after sanction |
How to apply for the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana
- Approach the NCC Unit or Group Headquarters attached to your school or college and ask for the prescribed application format. The Group Headquarters and Units collect applications from cadets of institutions where NCC is functional.
- Fill the form completely and attach your class 10 or 12 marksheet, your NCC training and attendance record, proof of your current higher-education enrolment, and the caste certificate certified by the competent authority.
- Submit the complete set to your Unit or Group Headquarters within the period the unit announces. There is no self-submission route and no online portal.
- The Group Headquarters constitutes a "Board of Officers" which reviews and verifies the applications and processes the cadets' forms and all related documents.
- The Group Headquarters forwards the complete application set to the State NCC Directorate.
- On approval at the Directorate level, the scholarship amount is sanctioned and disbursed to the selected cadets.
How do I check the status of my application?
There is no public status-tracking page for this scheme, because it is not portal-based. The practical route is:
- Ask the NCC officer (ANO) of your school or college whether your form was forwarded to Group Headquarters.
- Ask the Group Headquarters whether the Board of Officers has completed its review and when the batch was sent to the Directorate.
- Follow up with the State NCC Directorate for the sanction and disbursement stage.
Because a Board of Officers sits at Group level and sanction happens at Directorate level, a delay is usually at one of those two points, and the unit can normally say which.
Why NCC scholarship applications get rejected
- Attendance short of 80 per cent in one of the two training years, the most common technical failure.
- Fewer than two completed years of NCC training.
- The qualifying examination was not from the previous academic session.
- The cadet is not enrolled in higher education at the time of application.
- Another State Government scholarship is already being drawn.
- Caste certificate not certified by the competent authority, or missing from the set forwarded to the Directorate.
- Form submitted after the unit closed its collection, so it missed the batch sent up to Group Headquarters.
The fix for most of these is procedural and lies with the unit: an incomplete document set can usually be completed before the Board of Officers meets, but not after the batch has gone to the Directorate.
Practical notes for cadets and parents
Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana is a small, unit-administered award, and it behaves like one. There is no advertised state-wide last date; each Group Headquarters and Unit calls for applications after the previous session's results are out. Cadets who leave school and lose contact with their ANO are the ones who most often miss it, so the single most useful step is to collect the ANO's contact details before leaving the institution where you trained.
Cadets should also note the no-double-scholarship condition. If you are already receiving a state scholarship — for example a departmental scholarship for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, OBC or divyang students through the Social Welfare Department. You cannot hold this one alongside it, and declaring otherwise will cause the application to fail at verification.
Where to get help
- Your NCC unit's Associate NCC Officer (ANO) at the school or college where you trained. The first and most useful contact.
- The NCC Group Headquarters covering your district, which constitutes the Board of Officers.
- The State NCC Directorate, which sanctions and disburses the amount.
- Department of Education, Government of Uttarakhand. The nodal department for the scheme.
No verified toll-free helpline is published specifically for this scheme, so this guide does not list one. The scheme's benefit rates, eligibility conditions and application process on this page are taken from the Uttarakhand government's departmental scheme guidelines document (page 148).

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana scholarship for NCC cadets?
The scholarship is Rs 2,400 a year for a Senior Division or Senior Wing cadet and Rs 1,200 a year for a Junior Division or Junior Wing cadet at group level, and Rs 1,200 and Rs 600 a year respectively at unit level. The full range across the scheme is therefore Rs 600 to Rs 2,400 a year.
Who is eligible for the Mukhyamantri Chhatravritti Yojana?
An NCC cadet who passed class 10 or class 12 or an equivalent examination in the previous academic session, has completed two years of NCC training with at least 80 per cent attendance in each year, and is currently pursuing higher education is eligible.
Who is not eligible for this NCC scholarship?
A student who is not an NCC cadet is not eligible, and neither is a cadet already receiving any other general or special scholarship from the Uttarakhand State Government. Cadets with less than two years of NCC training, cadets whose attendance fell below 80 per cent in any year, and cadets who have stopped studying after school are also excluded.
Can I apply for this scholarship online?
No. The scheme runs entirely through the NCC chain. Group Headquarters and Units collect applications in the prescribed format from cadets of the schools and colleges where NCC is functional, and forward them to the State NCC Directorate.
Who approves the NCC scholarship applications?
Each Group Headquarters constitutes a Board of Officers that reviews and verifies the applications and processes the forms and supporting documents. The complete set then goes to the Directorate, and the amount is sanctioned and disbursed after approval at that level.
What attendance is required in NCC training?
A minimum of 80 per cent attendance in each year of NCC training is required, and the cadet must have completed two full years of training. The unit's training record is the evidence for this condition.
Is the scholarship paid once or every year?
The scheme description calls these annual cash scholarships awarded at group and unit levels, so the sanctioned amount is an annual figure. Continuation in later years depends on the unit calling for fresh applications and the cadet continuing to meet the conditions.
