Family income must be under Rs 1,00,000 a year. Apply online at edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in.
What is the Delhi Old Age Assistance Scheme?
Delhi Old Age Assistance Scheme, commonly called the Delhi old age pension or "vridha pension", is a financial assistance scheme run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi. According to the department's financial assistance schemes page, it pays a monthly cash pension to elderly residents of Delhi whose families have very little income, so that older people are not left dependent on charity for food, rent and medicine.
The pension is not a one-time grant. Once sanctioned, the amount is credited every month by electronic transfer into a single-operated bank account held in the pensioner's own name. Delhi runs the scheme as a state assistance programme that also carries the central National Social Assistance Programme component for eligible age groups, which is why sanctioned pensioners can often see their record on the NSAP portal at nsap.nic.in as well as on the Delhi e-District portal.
Key features
- Monthly cash pension of Rs 2,000 or Rs 2,500, depending on age and category.
- Paid by direct bank transfer, with no intermediary and no collection point.
- Administered district-wise by the District Social Welfare Officer.
- Applied for online through the Delhi e-District portal, free of charge.
How much money does the Delhi old age pension give?
The Department of Social Welfare lists three payment slabs:
| Beneficiary | Monthly pension |
|---|---|
| Aged 60 to 69 years | Rs 2,000 |
| Aged 60 to 69 years, and SC, ST or minority | Rs 2,500 (Rs 2,000 plus Rs 500) |
| Aged 70 years and above | Rs 2,500 |
Over a full year, a beneficiary in the lowest slab receives Rs 24,000 and a beneficiary in the highest slab receives Rs 30,000. The pension is credited monthly through the electronic clearing system, and payment usually begins from the month after the application is sanctioned rather than from the month you applied. When a pensioner crosses 70 years of age, the amount is stepped up to Rs 2,500 on the strength of the age proof already on record; you do not need to file a fresh application for the higher slab.
Who is eligible for the Delhi old age pension?
You can get the pension if:
- You are 60 years of age or above on the date of application.
- You have been residing in Delhi for at least five years immediately before applying.
- Your total family income from all sources is less than Rs 1,00,000 a year.
- You hold a valid Aadhaar number.
- You have a single-operated bank account in your own name, linked to Aadhaar, for receiving the money electronically.
You are not eligible if:
- You are below 60 years of age. Younger applicants with a disability should look at the Delhi disability pension instead, and widowed, divorced, separated or destitute women below 60 can apply under the Delhi Pension Scheme to Women in Distress.
- You are already drawing a pension or financial assistance from the Central Government, any State Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council or the Delhi Cantonment Board.
- Your family income is Rs 1,00,000 a year or more.
- You cannot show five years of continuous residence in Delhi.
- You operate only a joint bank account, or your account is not seeded with Aadhaar.
A person who moves permanently out of Delhi stops being eligible, and the pension is discontinued from the date the department records the change of residence.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Must be linked to the bank account |
| Age proof | Yes | Birth certificate, school certificate, voter ID or age assessment medical certificate |
| Five-year Delhi residence proof | Yes | Voter ID, ration card or utility bills covering the period |
| Bank passbook, single-operated account | Yes | Joint accounts are rejected |
| Income self-declaration | Yes | Family income below Rs 1,00,000 a year |
| Caste or minority certificate | No | Only for the extra Rs 500 in the 60 to 69 slab |

Scan each document clearly. Blurred uploads and mismatched names between Aadhaar and the bank passbook are among the most frequent reasons an application is sent back.

How to apply offline
- Visit the District Social Welfare Office of the district you live in, or the office of the Department of Social Welfare at 7th Floor, MSO Building, ITO, I.P. Estate, New Delhi 110002.
- Ask for the old age assistance application form and fill it in with the help of the counter staff.

How to check your pension status
- Log in to edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in and open Track your Application.
- Enter your application number and date of birth or registered mobile number.
- Read the current stage, which will show as pending, under verification, sanctioned or rejected.
Sanctioned pensioners can also use the Online Status of Old Age and Handicapped Pension link published on socialwelfare.delhi.gov.in, and can check the credit history of their pension on the NSAP portal at nsap.nic.in.
Why Delhi old age pension applications get rejected
- Family income above Rs 1,00,000 a year, found during verification.
- Residence in Delhi for less than five years, or residence proof that does not cover the full five-year period.
- Joint bank account given instead of a single-operated account.
- Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account, so the electronic transfer fails even after sanction.
- Name or date of birth mismatch between Aadhaar, the age proof and the bank record.
- Another pension already being drawn from a government body.
- Field verification failed because the applicant was not found at the address given.
Most of these are fixable. A name mismatch is corrected by updating Aadhaar or the bank record and then filing a fresh application; a failed transfer is usually solved by getting the branch to seed Aadhaar to the account through the NPCI mapper.
Where to complain if the pension is not credited
Take the complaint first to the District Social Welfare Officer of your district, quoting your application or pension number and the month from which payment stopped. If that does not resolve it, write to the Department of Social Welfare, 7th Floor, MSO Building, ITO, I.P. Estate, New Delhi 110002, or file a grievance through the Delhi government's public grievance system. Keep a copy of your acknowledgement receipt and your bank statement showing the missing credits, since those two documents settle most disputes quickly.

Can I get the Delhi old age pension if I already draw another government pension?
No. Applicants already receiving a pension or financial assistance from the Central Government, any State Government, MCD, NDMC or the Delhi Cantonment Board are not eligible. The scheme is meant for elderly persons who have no other regular pension income.
