Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana Scholarship Scheme, Delhi
Delhi state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana is a Delhi scholarship for SC, ST and OBC students of classes 9 to 12, reported to pay Rs 5,000 a year in classes 9 and 10 and Rs 10,000 a year in classes 11 and 12. Students need 50 to 60 per cent marks and apply free on the e-District portal at edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in.
What is Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana is a scholarship scheme of the Government of NCT of Delhi listed by the Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC among its state schemes. The department's own services page names it as Mukhyamantri Vidhyarthi Pratibha Yojna Scholarship Scheme and directs applicants to file on the Delhi e-District portal, where it appears under the Welfare of SC/ST department's services.
The scheme supports secondary and senior-secondary school students from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class families who have done well academically. Classes 9 to 12 are the years when the cost of schooling rises sharply in Delhi, books, uniforms, coaching, project work and travel, and when drop-out risk in these communities is highest. Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana puts a modest annual cash amount into the student's own bank account to reduce that pressure.
The scheme sits alongside, and is separate from, the centrally sponsored Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships that Delhi also runs. Those are filed on the National Scholarship Portal; this one is filed on e-District.
How much does Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana pay?
Published descriptions of the scheme place the scholarship at:
| Class | Reported annual scholarship |
|---|---|
| Class 9 and Class 10 | Rs 5,000 per year |
| Class 11 and Class 12 | Rs 10,000 per year |
The amount is annual, not monthly, and it is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into a bank account held in the student's own name. A parent's account is not accepted, which trips up a large number of class 9 applicants who have never held an account before. Opening a basic student savings account and seeding it with Aadhaar is the single most useful thing a family can do before the window opens.
Because the department has revised scholarship rates in past years, and because the rate table is published on the e-District service page rather than in a standing circular, treat the figures above as the reported current rates and verify them on the portal before applying.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana?
A student can claim the scholarship if:
- The student belongs to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Class category, with a certificate issued by a Delhi SDM or Deputy Commissioner.
- The student is a resident of Delhi.
- The student is studying in class 9, 10, 11 or 12 in a recognised government or government-aided school in Delhi.
- The student scored at least 50 per cent in the previous year for a claim in classes 9 and 10, or at least 60 per cent for a claim in classes 11 and 12.
- The family's annual income is within the reported ceiling of Rs 8,00,000. Students scoring 75 per cent or more are reported to be exempt from the income condition altogether.
- The student holds a bank account in their own name, seeded with Aadhaar.
A student is not eligible and cannot apply if:
- The student is outside the SC, ST and OBC categories. General-category and EWS students are not covered by this particular scheme.
- The caste certificate was issued by another state.
- The student is a repeater in the class being claimed for. Repeaters are expressly excluded, because the scheme rewards steady progression.
- Marks in the previous year fall below the applicable threshold to 50 per cent for classes 9 and 10, 60 per cent for classes 11 and 12.
- The school is not recognised by the Directorate of Education or an equivalent authority.
- The student is already drawing another scholarship for the same class and academic year. Double benefit is not permitted.
- The family lives outside Delhi, even if the child attends a Delhi school.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana
- Open edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in and complete New User Registration if you do not already have an account. Registration uses an Aadhaar number or a voter ID number and needs a working mobile number for the OTP.
- Log in through Citizen Login and open Apply Online, then select the department Welfare of SC/ST.
- Choose the service Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana Scholarship Scheme from the list of that department's services.
- Fill in the student's personal details, category, school name, current class and the previous year's percentage. The percentage is the figure the scrutiny turns on, so enter it exactly as printed on the mark sheet.
- Enter the student's own bank account number and IFSC code, copied character for character from the passbook.
- Upload the caste certificate, previous mark sheet, residence proof, bonafide certificate, bank passbook and, where required, the income certificate.
- Submit the application and save the acknowledgement number shown on screen. Print or photograph the acknowledgement page.
- Ask the school office to complete the verification of your application. The department cannot sanction a scholarship that the school has not verified.
How to apply if you cannot file online
- Approach the school office, which files e-District applications for its own students in most Delhi government and aided schools and can guide a family through the upload.
- Use a Common Service Centre for assisted filing. A small notified service charge may apply for the assistance, but no charge is payable for the scholarship itself.
- Visit the Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC, B-Block, 2nd Floor, Vikas Bhawan, I.P. Estate, New Delhi 110002 with the full document set if the school cannot help.
What is the last date to apply?
A closing date of 30 April 2026 has been reported for the current cycle of Delhi's school-level scholarship schemes. The department announces the window fresh each session, and has extended it in several past years.
The practical rule is simple: do not wait for the last week. The verification step depends on the school office, and schools close for summer around the end of April. An application filed in the final days may go unverified and lapse through no fault of the student.
How do I check my application status?
- Log in to edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in with the credentials used to apply.
- Open Track your Application and enter the acknowledgement number.
- Read the stage: pending at school, pending at department, sanctioned, or rejected with a reason.
- If the status shows pending at school for more than a few weeks, take a printout to the school office and ask for verification in person.
Once the status reads sanctioned, watch the bank passbook. DBT credits from the Delhi treasury do not always trigger an SMS alert.
Why do applications get rejected?
- Marks below the threshold for the class being claimed, or a mark sheet where the aggregate percentage is not clearly visible.
- Caste certificate from outside Delhi, or one that has expired.
- Bank account in a parent's name, or an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT transfer bounces.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the school record and the bank account. In school scholarships this is the most frequent single cause of failure.
- School verification never completed.
- Repeater status, which is checked against the school record.
- Another scholarship already drawn for the same class and year.
Most rejections are curable in the next cycle. Correct the Aadhaar or bank name, get a fresh Delhi caste certificate from the SDM, and apply again when the window reopens.
How is this scheme different from the other Delhi scholarships?
Delhi runs several scholarships with overlapping names, and mixing them up costs students a year:
- Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana. This scheme. Classes 9 to 12, SC/ST/OBC, annual scholarship, e-District.
- Mukhyamantri Vigyan Pratibha Pariksha โ a class 9 science talent examination of the Directorate of Education with a one-time Rs 5,000 award, registered by the school and open to all categories.
- Merit Scholarship to SC/ST/OBC Students of College/Professional Institutions, for college and professional-course students, not school students.
- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Toppers Award. A merit award for top-performing SC, ST and OBC students, also on e-District.
- Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships, centrally sponsored, filed on scholarships.gov.in, not on e-District.
A school student in classes 9 to 12 from an SC, ST or OBC family should check all of the first two, and should not assume that one application covers the others.
Where do I complain?
- Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC, B-Block, 2nd Floor, Vikas Bhawan, I.P. Estate, New Delhi 110002, telephone 011-23379512.
- The feedback and grievance link on scstwelfare.delhi.gov.in.
- The e-District helpdesk for portal errors such as failed OTPs, rejected uploads or a tracking number that returns no record.
There is no fee for applying under Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana, and no agent can get a name added to the sanction list.
