Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS)
Delhi state government scheme
Delhi Model Virtual School is a free online government school for Classes 9 to 12, launched on 31 August 2022 by the Directorate of Education. Students aged 13 to 18 who have passed Class 8 study through live daily classes in morning or evening slots, with free JEE, NEET and CUET coaching built into Classes 11 and 12.
What is Delhi Model Virtual School?
Delhi Model Virtual School, usually shortened to DMVS, is a government school that has no building. Launched on 31 August 2022 by the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, DMVS teaches Classes 9 to 12 entirely online, with live classes delivered to students wherever they are.
The school's stated motto is "Anywhere Living, Anytime Learning, Anytime Testing", and each part of that phrase is a design decision. Anywhere living means admission is open to students across India rather than only to Delhi residents. Anytime learning means every live class is also available as a recording. Anytime testing means assessment is scheduled around the student rather than around a school bell.
Delhi Model Virtual School was built for a group that the ordinary school system loses: children who dropped out to earn, girls kept home after Class 8, students with health conditions or disabilities that make daily travel hard, and children in families that move for work. For all of these, the barrier was never the syllabus. It was the requirement to be in one building at one time every day.
Main features
- Free education for Classes 9 to 12, with no tuition or admission fee.
- Live subject-wise classes held during school hours in the chosen slot.
- Two time slots: morning 8 AM to 11 AM, or evening 5 PM to 8 PM.
- Medium of instruction chosen by the student: Hindi, English or both.
- Recorded lectures and e-content for anything missed.
- JEE, NEET and CUET preparation included for Classes 11 and 12.
- Tutorial sessions, mentoring and co-curricular activities alongside academics.
Who is eligible for DMVS admission?
A student can seek admission if:
- The student is a resident of India. Delhi residence is not required, which distinguishes DMVS from every other Delhi government school.
- The student is 13 to 18 years old for Class 9 admission.
- The student has passed Class 8 from a recognised school or board.
- The student has access to a smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection to attend live classes.
A student is not eligible if:
- The student has not passed Class 8 and cannot produce the marksheet or passing certificate.
- The student is outside the 13 to 18 age band for the class being applied for.
- The student is not a resident of India.
DMVS is not a coaching institute bolted onto another school. A student admitted to DMVS is enrolled as a regular student of the virtual school and follows its full timetable and assessment schedule.
What documents are required for DMVS admission?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class 8 marksheet or certificate | Yes | The core eligibility proof for Class 9 |
| Passport size photograph | Yes | Uploaded after login credentials are issued |
| Identity proof (Aadhaar or PAN) | Yes | Aadhaar also establishes date of birth |
| Address proof | Yes | Electricity bill or voter ID |
| Caste certificate | No | Only where a reserved category record is claimed |
| Disability certificate | No | Only for students seeking accommodations |
Documents are not uploaded with the first registration. DMVS issues login credentials first and asks for uploads afterwards, so a student who has registered but not yet uploaded documents has an incomplete, unverified application.
How to apply for Delhi Model Virtual School
- Open the DMVS admission portal linked from the Directorate of Education website and start a new registration with your basic details.
- Enter your mobile number and verify the OTP sent to it. This mobile number becomes the contact point for all later communication, so use one that stays with the student.
- Complete the detailed application form — personal details, address and academic history including the Class 8 result.
- Select your class, time slot (morning or evening), medium of instruction (Hindi, English or both) and preferred mode of teacher interaction.
- Submit the form and wait for the login credentials to arrive on the registered mobile number and email.
- Log in with those credentials and upload the required documents, Class 8 marksheet, photograph, identity proof and address proof.
- Submit the uploads and wait for verification by the Directorate of Education. Admission is confirmed only after this verification step.
How much does DMVS cost?
Delhi Model Virtual School is free. There is no tuition fee, no admission fee and no charge for the JEE, NEET and CUET preparation given to Classes 11 and 12. The Government of NCT of Delhi funds the school.
The costs that remain fall on the family: a device capable of running video classes, and a data connection good enough for three hours of live teaching a day. Families should budget for these honestly before applying, because attendance in a virtual school depends entirely on connectivity.
How do I check my DMVS application status?
- Log in to the DMVS portal with the credentials sent after registration.
- Open the application or admission status section.
- The screen shows whether your documents are uploaded, under verification, or your admission has been confirmed with a class and slot allotted.
- If the status has not moved for several weeks, contact the Directorate of Education, Old Secretariat, Near Vidhan Sabha, Delhi 110054, quoting your registration number.
Why DMVS applications get rejected or stall
- Documents never uploaded. This is the most common failure. Registration alone is not an application; the upload step after login is what completes it.
- Class 8 marksheet not legible or from a board the Directorate cannot verify.
- Age outside the 13 to 18 band for the class applied for.
- Date of birth mismatch between the Aadhaar and the Class 8 marksheet.
- Wrong or unreachable mobile number, so the login credentials never arrive and the student assumes the application failed.
- Duplicate registrations by the same student, which are set aside.
A stalled application is usually fixed by logging in and completing the upload, not by registering again.
An important caution about the DMVS website
The domain dmvs.ac.in was the original DMVS admission portal. As of this guide's fact-check date, that domain does not serve a valid Government of NCT of Delhi certificate and does not resolve to a government-controlled site.
Do not enter a student's Aadhaar number, marksheet or bank details on that domain in its current state. Reach DMVS through the Directorate of Education portal at edudel.nic.in instead, or contact the Directorate directly, and confirm the live admission link before submitting anything.
This matters more for DMVS than for an ordinary scheme, because the entire admission process is online and asks for a minor's identity documents.
Key dates
Delhi Model Virtual School was launched on 31 August 2022. Admissions run session by session rather than continuously, and each cycle is notified separately by the Directorate of Education.
No permanent open window has been published. Families should confirm the current admission window with the Directorate of Education before preparing documents.
Where to get help
- Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, Old Secretariat, Near Vidhan Sabha, Delhi 110054.
- Directorate of Education portal: edudel.nic.in, which carries the department's circulars, contact list and helpline links.
Admission to Delhi Model Virtual School is free at every stage. No agent, counsellor or centre can charge a fee to "arrange" a DMVS seat, and any demand for such a payment should be reported to the Directorate of Education.

Frequently asked questions
What is Delhi Model Virtual School?
Delhi Model Virtual School is a fully online government school for Classes 9 to 12 run by the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, launched on 31 August 2022. Students attend live classes from home instead of a physical building, under the motto "Anywhere Living, Anytime Learning, Anytime Testing".
Is Delhi Model Virtual School free?
Yes, DMVS charges no tuition fee and no admission fee. The Delhi government funds it entirely. Students need their own internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer to attend the live classes.
Who can take admission in DMVS?
Students aged 13 to 18 who have passed Class 8 can seek admission to Class 9. Admission is open to students across India, not only Delhi residents, which is unusual for a state government school and is the reason DMVS is described as a national virtual school.
Can a school dropout join DMVS?
Yes, and dropouts are a main target group. DMVS was designed for children who left school for work, family or health reasons and for out-of-school children who cannot attend a physical school, provided they hold a Class 8 pass certificate and are within the age band.
What are the class timings?
DMVS runs two slots and the student picks one: a morning slot from 8 AM to 11 AM or an evening slot from 5 PM to 8 PM. The evening slot exists specifically for students who work or have daytime responsibilities.
Does DMVS prepare students for JEE, NEET and CUET?
Yes, for Classes 11 and 12. Competitive exam preparation for JEE, NEET and CUET is built into the DMVS programme at no extra cost, alongside the regular board syllabus.
What if I miss a live class?
Recorded lectures and supplementary e-content are available, so a missed live session can be watched later. DMVS also offers self-paced learning options, tutorial sessions and mentoring on top of the live timetable.
Which language are classes taught in?
Students choose Hindi, English or both at the time of admission. The medium is selected on the application form along with the class, time slot and preferred mode of teacher interaction.
