Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme
Delhi state government scheme
Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme gives free laptops to meritorious Class 10 board students of Delhi government and government-aided schools. The Delhi Cabinet approved it on 22 July 2025 with an outlay of about Rs 7.5 crore for roughly 1,200 laptops. Beneficiaries are picked on Class 10 board merit, so there is no open application form.
What is the Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme?
Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme is a Government of NCT of Delhi initiative that provides free laptops to meritorious Class 10 board students of Delhi government and government-aided schools. The Delhi Cabinet approved the scheme on 22 July 2025, with an outlay reported at about Rs 7.5 crore for the procurement of roughly 1,200 laptops in the 2025-26 round.
The scheme sits inside a wider digital push in Delhi's school system, which also included the setting up of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) labs across government schools; around 350 labs were reported alongside the laptop announcement. The intent is straightforward: a student who has just cleared Class 10 well moves into Classes 11 and 12, competitive exam preparation and online coursework, and a personal machine is the difference between using those resources and not.
What is confirmed so far
- Benefit: one laptop, in kind, per selected student.
- Reported specification: an Intel Core i7 class machine.
- Approving authority: the Delhi Cabinet, on 22 July 2025.
- Reported outlay: about Rs 7.5 crore.
- Reported coverage: about 1,200 students in the first round.
- Selection basis: Class 10 board merit, routed through schools.
Who is eligible for the Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme?
You can be considered if:
- You are a resident of Delhi.
- You studied in a Delhi government or government-aided school.
- You have passed the Class 10 board examination.
- You fall in the meritorious or topper category as defined in that year's merit list.
You are not eligible if:
- You studied in a private unaided school, or in a school outside Delhi.
- You are in a class other than the qualifying Class 10 board cohort. The benefit attaches to the Class 10 board result, so Class 9, Class 11 and Class 12 students cannot apply on their own account.
- You did not clear the Class 10 board examination.
- Your marks fall below the merit cut-off for the round. With about 1,200 laptops against a Class 10 cohort in the lakhs, the cut-off is high and most passing students will not qualify.
- You have already received a laptop under this scheme. The benefit is one-time.
How to apply for the Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme
Delhi Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme has not announced an open application form. Selection is drawn from Class 10 board results and handled through schools. These are the steps that actually matter for an eligible student:
- Sit the Class 10 board examination from a Delhi government or government-aided school and clear it with a strong aggregate, since merit is the qualifying test.
- Check that your school records are correct; name spelling, roll number, Aadhaar and contact number. Merit lists are matched against school records, and a mismatch is the usual reason a qualifying student is missed.
- Watch edudel.nic.in and your school notice board for the Directorate of Education circular naming selected students and the distribution schedule.
- Keep your documents ready, Class 10 admit card and scorecard, Aadhaar, Delhi residence proof, school bonafide certificate and a photograph.
- Attend the distribution event at the notified venue with originals, sign the handover acknowledgement, and check the machine before leaving.
If, when detailed guidelines are issued, the Directorate opens an online registration for shortlisted students, it will be announced through the same two channels β the edudel.nic.in circulars page and the school.
What documents will be needed?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class 10 admit card and scorecard | Yes | The merit list is drawn from these results |
| Student's Aadhaar card | Yes | Identification and duplicate prevention |
| Delhi residence proof | Yes | Aadhaar with Delhi address, ration card, voter ID or utility bill |
| School bonafide certificate | Yes | Confirms government or aided school enrolment |
| Passport-size photograph | Yes | For the school's handover record |
| Income certificate | No | Reported as applicable in specific cases only |
How will I know if I have been selected?
Selection is published, not searched. Watch the Public Circulars section of edudel.nic.in and your own school's notice board. Because the list is built from board results rather than from applications, there is no acknowledgement number to track and no status page to refresh. Your class teacher and head of school will receive the list through the Directorate's internal circulation and are the fastest source of a definite answer.
Why an eligible student might be left out
- Marks below the round's cut-off, which is the ordinary outcome given about 1,200 laptops for an entire board cohort.
- Record mismatch between the board data and the school register, a different spelling, roll number or date of birth can drop a name off the matched list.
- School type. A student who moved to a private school before the board exam falls outside the government and aided school scope.
- Absent at distribution with no follow-up, in which case ask the school immediately whether the machine is being held.
- Duplicate claim, where a student has already received a laptop under the same scheme.
Help and grievance redressal
- First stop: your class teacher and head of school.
- Next: the Zonal or District Deputy Director of Education.
- Directorate of Education: Old Secretariat, Near Vidhan Sabha, Delhi-110054; circulars at https://www.edudel.nic.in/
- Delhi government portal: https://delhi.gov.in/
The laptop is free. No school, official or vendor may charge a student for the machine, for "registration" or for delivery, and any such demand should be reported in writing to the head of school and the District Deputy Director of Education.
A note on what is not yet published. At the time of fact-checking, the Directorate of Education had not put out a standalone public page for this scheme with the exact merit cut-off, the district-wise allocation, the laptop specification sheet or a dedicated helpline. The Cabinet approval date, the outlay, the coverage figure and the laptop class reported here come from the approval announcement and its reporting. Treat the merit cut-off, the year-on-year coverage and any application step as subject to the operational guidelines the Directorate issues, and confirm the current position with your school before acting on it.
