Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears - Organisation of Special Dedicated Programmes
Goa state government scheme
Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears is Scheme No. 14 of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, which collaborates with troupes, institutions and individuals to produce special programmes on the lives of deceased tiatr artistes. TAG stages a maximum of 4 free shows, funds each show, provides a hall and documents the programme for its library.
What is the Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears scheme?
Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears, Organisation of Special Dedicated Programmes is Scheme No. 14 of the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa.
The Academy's stated problem is the same one that motivates several of its schemes: the tiatr stage produced great personalities in the past, they are no longer with us, their contribution to Goan tiatr is immense, and today's younger generation does not know much about them.
Where this scheme differs from its siblings is in what it funds. Scheme No. 14 collaborates with troupes, institutions and individuals to produce a special dedicated programme on the life of a particular artiste, or a programme made up of the tiatrs staged and songs rendered by that artiste in the past. The scheme text notes explicitly that this scheme is different from the scheme at Sr. No. 7.
What TAG provides
- Financial assistance for each show, at an amount fixed by TAG, to support or compensate the expenditure.
- An auditorium or hall to stage the programme.
- Financial assistance for a temporary pandal, stage and sound where the programme is in a village.
- Documentation of the programme, preserved at TAG's library.
- A banner for a tiatr, or a logo backdrop specification for a musical show.
The documentation and permanent preservation at the TAG library is what distinguishes this scheme in practical terms. The programme does not simply happen and disappear; it becomes part of the Academy's archive of the form.
Who is eligible for this scheme?
You can apply if:
- You are a troupe, institution or individual.
- You wish to produce and stage a special programme dedicated to a particular artiste of yesteryears.
- The artiste meets the performance record, a writer or director should have staged 20 tiatrs, and an actor or other artiste should have performed in 100 tiatrs.
- You can obtain a No Objection Certificate from the nearest family member or members of the late artiste.
- You will compulsorily invite the family members to the function.
- You can submit the proposal well in advance with all details, including the script and lyrics to be presented and the names of the artistes.
- You can produce self-attested copies of Aadhaar and PAN.
You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:
- The artiste is still living. The scheme addresses artistes who are no more.
- The artiste falls short of the 20 tiatrs staged or 100 tiatrs performed record.
- You cannot obtain the family NOC, which is mandatory with the application.
- You intend to charge for tickets. All shows must be free to the public.
- You cannot comply with the conditions TAG specifies for credit lines, banners, accounts and photographs.
- Funds are exhausted for the cycle, since the scheme is implemented on a first come first serve basis as per availability of funds.
What must the programme contain?
The scheme sets content requirements, not just administrative ones:
- The programme must include staging of tiatr or one-act plays written by the artistes of yesteryears.
- It can also include musical activity: songs and music composed and sung by the late artiste, if he or she was a singer, music composer or musician.
- It must include narration of the history of the life of the late artiste to whom the programme is dedicated.
Duration: the programme should be at least two hours if it is a musical show and three hours if it is a tiatr.
Where and how many shows are staged?
- The inaugural show should preferably be staged in Panjim, Margao, or in the village of the artiste where he resided.
- A maximum of 4 shows at different places will be staged by TAG, including 1 show in the area of residence of the artiste.
- If the applicant desires, an additional 2 shows may be granted for performances in villages only, at an amount fixed by TAG plus an additional amount fixed by TAG for pandal, hall or auditorium including stage and sound.
- All shows must be shown to the public free without charging any tickets.
- TAG has no objection if the producer takes sponsorship from other sources.

How to apply for the Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears scheme
- Obtain the prescribed application form for Scheme No. 14 by printing it from the Academy's schemes page, or by visiting the Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1 / AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001 to collect a copy.
- Fill in all the mandatory fields and prepare the proposal, giving all details of the programme, the artiste it is dedicated to, the venues and dates of the shows, and the names of the artistes taking part.
- Attach the No Objection Certificate from the nearest family members, the typed script and lyrics of everything to be presented, and self-attested copies of Aadhaar and PAN.
- Sign and date the form and submit it so that it reaches the office of TAG at least 30 days in advance, along with the typed script and lyrics. Applications are considered on a first come first serve basis subject to availability of funds.
- Keep a copy of the submitted application and any acknowledgement issued by the Academy.
What happens after the application is approved?
The scheme has a defined post-approval sequence, and each step carries a condition that affects payment:
- Coordinate with TAG on the Chief Guest. The organiser must discuss and decide the Chief Guest or Guest of Honour with TAG well in advance, and the President or Vice President of TAG will be either the Chief Guest or the Guest of Honour.
- Collect the banner and materials. For a tiatr, collect the TAG banner from the Academy office and display it compulsorily on the front side wing of the stage. For a musical show, display a backdrop banner of minimum 6 ft x 10 ft carrying TAG's logo.
- Stage the performances, ensuring free admission for the public, the credit line "This programme is held in collaboration with Tiatr Academy of Goa" in all advertisements, oral, print or electronic media and on banners, and the specified duration for each type of performance.
- Document and report. Send 5 copies of photographs of the function to TAG for records, two of which must show the TAG banner during the performance.
- Submit financial documentation. Prepare and submit a detailed statement of expenditure with all original bills, with a stamped receipt where an amount exceeds Rs 5,000.
- Return the banner to the TAG office after all the shows are completed.
Separately, TAG documents the programme and preserves it at the Academy's library, which is done by the Academy and not by the organiser.
Why an application may not succeed
- No family NOC, which the scheme makes mandatory.
- Artiste is living, placing the proposal outside the scheme.
- Performance record short of 20 tiatrs staged or 100 tiatrs performed.
- Application received under 30 days in advance, or without the typed script and lyrics.
- Funds exhausted for the cycle under the first come first serve rule.
- Tickets charged for a show.
- Adverse remarks in the script, song lyrics, performance or speeches against any Government, individual or institution. If proved, TAG reserves the right to disqualify the performance and refrain from making payment, or recall a payment already made.
- Bills or photographs not submitted after the shows, which stalls reimbursement.
Where to get help
- Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1 / AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa 403001 — phone 0832-2230738 and 0832-2230739, email tiatracademy@gmail.com.
- Tiatr Academy of Goa schemes page, which hosts the rules and application form for Scheme No. 14 and every other numbered TAG scheme.
- Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panaji, phone 0832-2404600.
TAG reserves the right to make any changes in the rules of this scheme. Because the financial assistance is expressed only as "an amount as fixed by TAG", an organiser should establish the current per-show rate and the village pandal rate with the Academy office before committing to venues.
How this compares with Scheme No. 13
Organisers frequently confuse the two memorial schemes. The difference is the occasion and the record threshold:
| Scheme No. 13 to Commemoration of Jubilees | Scheme No. 14 to Special Dedicated Programmes | |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | A milestone birth anniversary to 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th, 150th | Any time, a programme dedicated to the artiste's life and work |
| Writer / director record | 25 tiatrs staged | 20 tiatrs staged |
| Actor record | 100 tiatrs performed | 100 tiatrs performed |
| Shows | Max 4, with 3 in cities and 1 in the artiste's area | Max 4 at different places, including 1 in the artiste's area |
| Documentation | Photographs for TAG records | Programme documented and preserved at TAG's library |
| Duration | At least 2 hours | 2 hours for a musical show, 3 hours for a tiatr |
How to check your application status
Scheme No. 14 is an offline, paper-based scheme run by the Tiatr Academy of Goa, and TAG does not publish an online portal or reference number system for tracking applications under this scheme. Status has to be followed up directly with the Academy.
- Keep your submission proof ready. When you deliver the application, note the date it was handed in or dispatched, and keep the acknowledgement or receiving stamp TAG issues at the time of submission. Since applications are processed first come first serve subject to availability of funds, the submission date is what TAG's office will check first.
- Call the TAG office directly. Phone 0832-2230738 or 0832-2230739 and quote the applicant's name, the artiste the programme is dedicated to, and the date of submission. Since Scheme No. 14 sits alongside many other numbered TAG schemes, mention "Scheme No. 14, Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears" specifically so the office pulls the correct file.
- Follow up by email if a call is inconclusive. Write to tiatracademy@gmail.com with the same details, and ask whether the proposal has been registered, whether it is pending review, or whether it has been approved with a show date and venue confirmed.
- Visit in person for a final proposal check. Because approval also depends on TAG confirming the venue, the Chief Guest arrangement, and the banner or backdrop logistics, a visit to the office at AS-1 / AS-4, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opposite Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, is the most reliable way to confirm these details are locked in before you commit to a date with artistes or a venue.
- After the shows, track the reimbursement separately. Once the statement of expenditure with original bills is submitted, that claim moves through TAG's internal accounts process rather than the application process. Follow up on payment status the same way, by phone or email, quoting the date the bills and photographs were submitted, since delayed or incomplete bill submission is what typically holds up the release of the fixed per-show amount.
Because TAG reserves the right to change the rules of this scheme and does not publish a fixed per-show amount, confirming both the application status and the current funding figure directly with the office before committing dates is the safer course, rather than assuming an earlier cycle's terms still apply.

Frequently asked questions
What does this scheme fund?
The Tiatr Academy of Goa collaborates with troupes, institutions and individuals to produce special dedicated programmes on the lives of particular tiatr artistes of the past. TAG gives financial assistance for each show, provides an auditorium or hall, and documents the programme for its library.
What performance record must the artiste have?
A writer or director should have staged 20 tiatrs, and an actor or other artiste should have performed in 100 tiatrs. Note that the writer-director threshold here is 20, not the 25 that applies under the related Scheme No. 13.
How many shows are staged?
A maximum of 4 shows at different places, including 1 show in the area where the artiste resided. If the applicant desires, an additional 2 shows may be granted for performances in villages only.
Are the shows free for the public?
Yes. All shows must be shown to the public free, without charging any tickets. TAG has no objection if the producer takes sponsorship from other sources.
How long must the programme run?
A musical show should run at least two hours and a tiatr at least three hours. The programme must also include narration of the history of the life of the late artiste to whom it is dedicated.
Who cannot apply for this scheme?
An applicant proposing a programme on a living artiste cannot apply, and neither can one who is unable to obtain a No Objection Certificate from the artiste's nearest family members. An artiste falling short of the 20 tiatrs staged or 100 tiatrs performed record does not qualify.
How is this different from the Commemoration scheme?
Scheme No. 13 funds a function on a milestone birth anniversary — the 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th or 150th. Scheme No. 14 funds a dedicated programme on the artiste's life and work at any time, and the Academy notes it is also different from Scheme No. 7.
Does the Academy keep a record of the programme?
Yes. The Tiatr Academy of Goa documents the programme and preserves it at the Academy's library, which is one of the distinguishing features of this scheme.
