Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana (Funeral Assistance Scheme)
Jharkhand state government scheme
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pays Rs 10,000 towards the last rites of a registered construction worker who dies while a member of the Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The nominee or family member claims the amount free of cost on shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in or through a Pragya Kendra, with the death certificate.
What is Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana?
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana is a funeral assistance scheme of the Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, run under the Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development, Government of Jharkhand. The scheme appears in Hindi on the department's Shramadhan portal as अंत्येष्टि सहायता योजना, and is also written as Antyeshti Sahayata Yojana.
According to the Shramadhan portal, Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pays Rs 10,000 for the last rites when a registered beneficiary of the board dies. The payment is one-time and is made to the nominee or the dependent family member, not to the deceased worker's estate in any complicated sense.
The purpose is narrow and practical. A construction worker's family in Jharkhand is often paid daily and holds no savings buffer, and cremation or burial costs have to be met within hours of a death. Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana is designed to put money in the family's hands quickly, before the much larger death and disability claim, which needs post-mortem reports, police records and longer verification, can be settled.
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana is funded from the construction cess collected under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996. This is why the scheme is not means-tested: the fund is built from levies on construction projects and belongs to registered construction workers.
Who is eligible for Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana?
The claim can be made if:
- The deceased was a registered beneficiary of the Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board at the time of death.
- The claimant is the nominee recorded in the board's registration file, or a dependent family member who can prove the relationship.
- A death certificate for the worker is available from the municipality, panchayat or hospital.
- The worker's membership was live, meaning the annual contribution to the board had been paid.
A claim cannot be made, or is not eligible, in these situations:
- The deceased was never registered with the board, even if he or she worked on construction sites for years. Registration under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996 is the gateway condition.
- The deceased was an unorganised worker outside construction. Jharkhand runs a separate Antyeshti Sahayata Yojana for unorganised workers on the same Shramadhan portal, and that is the correct head for such families.
- The claimant cannot show any relationship or nomination. A neighbour or employer who paid for the funeral is not the beneficiary of this scheme.
- The claim relates to a contractor, supervisor or establishment owner rather than a worker. Employers register establishments and pay cess; they do not draw worker benefits.
- The same death has already been settled under this head. Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pays once per worker.
Note the important exception: a lapsed contribution is a reason for scrutiny, not automatically an outright refusal. Place the facts before the district labour office rather than abandoning the claim.
What documents are required for Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Death certificate | Yes | From the municipality, panchayat or hospital |
| Board registration card of the worker | Yes | Proof of BOCW board membership |
| Aadhaar of the claimant | Yes | Identity of the nominee or family member |
| Proof of relationship or nomination | Yes | Board nomination entry, family register, ration card or heirship certificate |
| Bank passbook of the claimant | Yes | The Rs 10,000 is credited to this account |
| Contribution receipt | No | Evidence membership was live on the date of death |
The Shramadhan FAQ warns that where uploaded documents are not legible or contradict each other, the applicant is called to produce hard copies. Scan the death certificate cleanly the first time; it is the document most often rejected for clarity.
How to apply for Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana online
- Open shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in, the Comprehensive Labour Management System of the Jharkhand Department of Labour.
- Sign in with the mobile number registered against the worker's board account and the OTP sent to it. Three OTP attempts are allowed per session.
- Open Services → BOC Worker Scheme Benefit and choose Antyeshti Sahayata Yojana from the board's scheme list.
- Enter the deceased worker's registration number, date of death and district, then the claimant's name, relationship and bank account details.
- Upload the death certificate, registration card, claimant Aadhaar, proof of relationship and bank passbook.
- Submit the claim and note down the application number on the acknowledgement screen.
- Track it from the home page Worker Details box using the application number or registration number with the mobile number.
How to apply for Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana offline
- Go to a Pragya Kendra (Common Service Centre) with the death certificate and the worker's registration card. Shramadhan supports CSC filing through Digital Seva Connect, so the operator submits the same online claim.
- Or approach the district labour office directly and hand the claim to the labour enforcement officer with the documents attached.
- Ask for a written acknowledgement with the application number before you leave the counter.
- Follow up with the same office after two weeks; the labour office verifies the death and the nomination before the board releases payment.
Jharkhand's e-District portal, jharsewa.jharkhand.gov.in, also handles construction worker registration services through Pragya Kendras. If the worker was never registered, that registration route is not a substitute for this claim; registration cannot be done after death.
How to check the status of an Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana claim
- Open shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in.
- Type the application number or the worker's registration number, plus the registered mobile number, into the Worker Details box.
- Read the stage: submitted, pending at the labour office, approved or rejected.
- If the file is stuck, record a complaint under the portal's Grievance menu and keep the grievance number. A grievance dashboard on the same portal shows movement.
The Shramadhan FAQ gives 30 days as the maximum time for completing a process where a complete application with documents has been filed.
Why Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana claims get delayed or rejected
- Contribution lapsed before the date of death. The single most frequent objection raised on board claims.
- No nomination on record and no acceptable proof of relationship, which leaves the labour office unable to decide who should be paid.
- Name spelling differences between the death certificate, the board record and the claimant's Aadhaar.
- Unreadable scans, especially of the death certificate.
- Wrong scheme head. The family of an unorganised worker outside construction files under the construction board by mistake.
- Bank account details that do not match the claimant's name, which causes the transfer to bounce even after approval.
Fix the specific defect and file a fresh application. A rejected board claim is not reopened on its own.
What else the family may be entitled to
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana is deliberately small and fast. The Shramadhan portal lists several larger board benefits the same family should check:
- Jharkhand Nirman Karmkar Mrityu/Durghatna Sahayata Yojana — Rs 5,00,000 for accidental death, Rs 3,00,000 for total disability, Rs 2,00,000 for partial disability and Rs 1,00,000 for natural death, for registered workers aged 18 to
- Samekit Aam Aadmi Bima Sahayata Yojana: cover of up to Rs 4,00,000 on death, accident and other contingencies, with a linked Shiksha Sahyog Yojana scholarship for children in Classes 9 to 12.
- Family pension, where the deceased was drawing a board pension, 50 per cent of the pension amount subject to a maximum of Rs 500 per month.
- Orphan pension: payable at the family pension rate and divided equally among children below 18 years.
- Medhavi Putra/Putri Scholarship; Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 a year for two children, depending on the level of study.
Claim these separately. Approval of the Rs 10,000 funeral assistance does not trigger any of them automatically.
Key dates
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana runs all year with no last date. The Shramadhan portal on which it is published was last updated on 30 July 2026, and the board's scheme list was live on that date. Because there is no published outer time limit for filing, families should still claim as soon as the death certificate is in hand; verification is easier while records and witnesses are current.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pay in Jharkhand?
Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pays Rs 10,000. The Jharkhand Labour Department's Shramadhan portal states that on the death of a registered beneficiary, Rs 10,000 is paid for the last rites. It is a one-time payment, not a monthly benefit.
Who can claim the Rs 10,000 funeral assistance?
The nominee recorded with the Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board claims it, and where no nomination exists, a dependent family member does, supported by proof of relationship. The claim is made after the worker's death, so the claimant is never the worker.
Is Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana the same as the death and accident assistance scheme?
No, they are two separate board schemes and a family may qualify for both. Antayoshti Sahayata Yojana pays Rs 10,000 for the last rites, while the Jharkhand Nirman Karmkar Mrityu/Durghatna Sahayata Yojana pays Rs 5,00,000 for accidental death, Rs 3,00,000 for total disability, Rs 2,00,000 for partial disability and Rs 1,00,000 for natural death.
Does the death have to happen at a construction site?
No. The Shramadhan portal describes the benefit as payable on the death of a registered beneficiary, without limiting it to a workplace death. A death at a site additionally opens the separate accident assistance claim of Rs 5,00,000.
Is there a funeral assistance scheme for workers who are not in construction?
Yes. Jharkhand runs a parallel Antyeshti Sahayata Yojana for unorganised workers, listed on the same Shramadhan portal alongside the Jharkhand Asangathit Karmkar Mrityu/Durghatna Sahayata Yojana. Workers outside construction claim under that head, not under the construction board.
How does a family apply if the worker's contribution had lapsed?
File the claim anyway and place the facts before the district labour office, because board benefits are tied to live membership and a lapsed contribution is the most common reason a claim is questioned. The Shramadhan portal carries a BOC Worker Re-contribution service, but re-contribution after death is a matter for the board to decide.
Where is the claim filed?
File it on shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in under BOC Worker Scheme Benefit, or through a Pragya Kendra (Common Service Centre), or in person at the district labour office. All three routes feed the same board file, and none of them charges a scheme fee.
What helpline can a bereaved family call?
Call 1800 3456 526, the Labour Commissioner's line published on the Shramadhan contact page, or 7632996057 for portal problems between 10 AM and 6 PM on weekdays. The Labour Commissioner's office is at Shram Bhawan, Doranda, Ranchi, and the email is labcomjhr@gmail.com.
