Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana is a Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs Department scheme that gives Scheduled Tribe families 50 kg of wheat or rice when a child is born and 1 quintal of wheat or rice plus cooking utensils when a family member dies. Assistance is issued in kind through the gram panchayat, not as cash, and no online form is involved.
What is Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana is a Madhya Pradesh state scheme run by the Tribal Affairs Department (Janjatiya Karya Vibhag) that helps Scheduled Tribe families meet the immediate cost of two unavoidable family events, the birth of a child and the death of a family member. The scheme is often written in Hindi as "मुख्यमंत्री मदद योजना", and the word madad simply means help.
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana was announced in August 2019, when the state government put out a set of measures for tribal households that also included new Eklavya Model Residential Schools in tribal blocks. The Madad Yojana part of that package was deliberately designed as an in-kind benefit. Tribal households in remote blocks of Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dindori, Mandla, Shahdol, Anuppur and Betul often face a real shortage of foodgrain in the days immediately after a birth or a death, when the household is feeding relatives and cannot go out to work. The scheme meets that shortage directly with grain rather than with money.
What Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana provides
- On a birth in the family: 50 kg of wheat or rice, given to the household through the gram panchayat.
- On a death in the family: 1 quintal (100 kg) of wheat or rice, plus a set of cooking utensils for the community meal.
- The cooking utensils are held as a village-level asset in many panchayats and are lent to the family for the occasion rather than handed over permanently. The state sanctioned a separate budget line for buying utensil sets for tribal villages so that panchayats could hold this common stock.
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana is therefore not a pension, not a scholarship and not a cash transfer. Readers who search for a "Madad Yojana payment status" will find nothing, because no payment is generated. The benefit is physical grain issued at the village level.
Who can and cannot get Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana?
You are covered if:
- Your household belongs to a Scheduled Tribe notified for Madhya Pradesh, and you hold a valid caste certificate issued by the tehsildar or SDM.
- You are a resident of Madhya Pradesh, living in the gram panchayat where you are claiming.
- A birth or a death has occurred in the family and has been registered with the panchayat secretary or the municipal registrar.
- The head of the household can produce the family's Samagra ID, which the panchayat uses to record the assistance against the correct household.
You are not eligible if:
- Your family does not belong to a notified Scheduled Tribe. Scheduled Caste and OBC families cannot apply under this particular scheme; the Social Justice and Empowerment Department runs separate assistance routes for them.
- You live outside Madhya Pradesh, even if you belong to a Scheduled Tribe notified in a neighbouring state.
- The birth or death has not been registered. Panchayats will not release grain on the basis of an oral claim alone, because the register entry is what the district office later audits.
- You are claiming for an event that happened years earlier and was never reported at the time. Madad Yojana assistance is meant to be drawn close to the event.
There is no income ceiling published for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana and no requirement to hold a BPL card, which distinguishes it from most Madhya Pradesh welfare schemes. Eligibility turns on tribe status and on the event itself.
What documents are required for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Tribe caste certificate | Yes | Issued by the tehsildar or SDM |
| Birth or death certificate | Yes | Panchayat or municipal registration of the event |
| Samagra family ID | Yes | Identifies the household in the state database |
| Aadhaar of the head of household | Yes | Identity of the person collecting the aid |
| Residence proof | Yes | Ration card, voter ID or domicile certificate |
Carry photocopies of each document and take the originals for verification. The panchayat secretary keeps the copies with the village-level register.
How to apply for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana
- Register the event first. Get the birth or death registered with the panchayat secretary (gram panchayat sachiv) or the municipal registrar and collect the certificate. Registration is free within 21 days of the event.
- Approach the gram panchayat. Meet the panchayat secretary or sarpanch with the caste certificate, the birth or death certificate, the Samagra ID and Aadhaar of the head of the household. In urban wards, approach the ward office of the nagar palika instead.
- Submit a written request. Give a plain application on the panchayat's format stating the family name, the Samagra ID, the date of the event and whether you are claiming the birth benefit (50 kg) or the death benefit (1 quintal plus utensils).
- Wait for verification. The panchayat secretary checks the caste certificate and the register entry, and enters the claim in the village record for the Tribal Affairs Department.
- Collect the grain and utensils. Once the claim is approved, collect the foodgrain from the panchayat or the linked fair price shop and sign the acknowledgement register. Ask for a receipt showing the quantity issued.
If the panchayat says the grain allotment for the month is exhausted, the claim is not cancelled; ask for it to be carried into the next allotment cycle and keep the acknowledgement.
How to check the status of a Madad Yojana claim
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana does not have an online status tracker, because it is a physical distribution scheme rather than a DBT scheme. The practical way to check is to:
- Ask the panchayat secretary to show the entry in the village register with the date on which your claim was recorded.
- If a fortnight passes with no issue, take the acknowledgement to the janpad panchayat office of your block and ask the CEO to follow it up.
- If that fails, escalate to the Assistant Commissioner, Tribal Affairs, at the district headquarters.
Do not pay any agent to "process" a Madad Yojana claim. The scheme carries no application fee at any stage.
Why Madad Yojana claims get rejected, and how to fix them
- Caste certificate not in the state format. An old handwritten certificate or one issued in another state will be refused. Apply for a fresh ST certificate through the tehsil or MP e-District.
- Event not registered. A home birth or a death at home that was never reported has no register entry. Registration after 21 days needs an order from the tehsildar, so complete that first, then re-apply.
- Samagra ID missing or wrong. Households that have split but never updated Samagra records get flagged. Update the family record at the panchayat before claiming.
- Name mismatch across documents. A different spelling on the caste certificate and Aadhaar is the most common clerical rejection. Get one of the two corrected rather than arguing at the counter.
- Duplicate claim on the same event. Two members of the same household claiming for one birth will both be held. Only the head of the household should claim.
Where to complain about Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana
- Tribal Affairs Department helpdesk: 1800-2333-951
- Email: helpdesk.tribal@mp.gov.in
- CM Helpline: 181, the state's general grievance line, which forwards tribal-welfare complaints to the district Assistant Commissioner
- District office: Assistant Commissioner, Tribal Affairs, at the district headquarters, who is the sanctioning authority for village-level aid
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana works best when the family reports the birth or death promptly and keeps the panchayat acknowledgement. Because the benefit is grain and utensils rather than money, the whole process is settled at the village level and should not take more than two to three weeks in a normal month.

Frequently asked questions
What does Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana actually give a family?
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana gives material aid, not cash, 50 kg of wheat or rice when a child is born in a Scheduled Tribe family, and 1 quintal (100 kg) of wheat or rice together with a set of cooking utensils when a member of the family dies. The grain is issued through the gram panchayat.
Is Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana money transferred to a bank account?
No. Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana is an in-kind scheme, so nothing is credited to a bank account. Families receive foodgrain and utensils physically from the panchayat. Anyone promising a cash transfer under this scheme name is not describing the scheme correctly.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana?
Scheduled Tribe families resident in Madhya Pradesh are eligible, on the occasion of a birth or a death in the family. A valid ST caste certificate is the core eligibility document. Families that do not belong to a notified Scheduled Tribe cannot apply.
Is there an online application for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana?
No separate online application has been notified for Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana. Assistance is claimed offline at the gram panchayat, which verifies the caste certificate and the birth or death registration before releasing the grain and utensils.
When was Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana announced?
Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana was announced by the Madhya Pradesh government in August 2019 as part of a package of measures for tribal households, alongside new Eklavya residential schools in tribal areas.
Can the same family claim Mukhyamantri Madad Yojana more than once?
Yes, because the assistance is tied to an event rather than to a lifetime limit. A family that has a birth in one year and a death in another can claim on each occasion, provided each event is registered and verified by the panchayat.
Whom do I contact if the panchayat refuses the assistance?
Contact the district Assistant Commissioner, Tribal Affairs, or use the Tribal Affairs Department helpdesk on 1800-2333-951 or helpdesk.tribal@mp.gov.in. Complaints can also be lodged on the CM Helpline number 181, which routes them to the district tribal office.
