Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana is the Madhya Pradesh marriage-assistance route for Muslim families, run alongside Kanya Vivah Yojana on the same state vivah portal. Assistance is given when a daughter, widow or abandoned woman marries in a government-organised group nikah. The bride must be 18 or older, the groom 21 or older, and the family registered on Samagra.
What is Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana is the Madhya Pradesh marriage-assistance scheme for Muslim families, run by the Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare Department as the companion route to Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. According to the department's own portal, the Kanya Vivah and Nikah schemes are listed together and both are administered through a dedicated state marriage portal at vivahportal.mp.gov.in, where each case is recorded by the local body.
The scheme exists for a plain reason. A poor family marrying a daughter often borrows at ruinous interest to pay for the ceremony and the basic household goods a bride takes with her. Madhya Pradesh removes both costs by organising a group nikah, a collective function arranged by the gram panchayat, janpad panchayat, nagar palika or nagar nigam, and by giving the bride household essentials plus a cash component paid into her own bank account.
What the scheme is built to do
- Take the borrowing out of a poor family's marriage arrangements.
- Put a cash base in the bride's own name, not the family's.
- Make 18 and 21 checked, enforced ages rather than paper conditions.
- Cover widows, divorced women and abandoned women remarrying, not only first marriages.
The scheme is often searched for locally as Nikah Yojana or as the Muslim counterpart of the Kanyadan Yojana; both names refer to the same state programme.
How much does Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana pay?
Madhya Pradesh sets one rate for its marriage-assistance schemes and applies it across both the Kanya Vivah and Nikah routes for a given year. That rate is split between three things:
- Household essentials for the bride, handed over as goods at the function.
- A cash component, credited by Direct Benefit Transfer to the bride's own bank account after the function is certified.
- A per-couple amount paid to the organising body to meet the cost of running the group function itself.
An honest caution about the number. The published figure has been revised more than once and different Madhya Pradesh district pages carry different vintages of it, so this guide does not quote a single amount as current. Ask the gram panchayat secretary, the janpad panchayat office or the nagar palika what rate applies to the next announced function in your district, and get it in writing on the acknowledgement if you can. Do not take an amount quoted by an intermediary.
What does not vary is the structure: the family should expect goods plus a partial cash credit, not the entire assistance as cash in hand.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana?
You can be considered if:
- The bride's family is a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
- The bride has completed 18 years and the groom has completed 21 years on the date of the nikah.
- The household falls in the target group: poor, destitute, widowed, divorced or abandoned families, as identified by the local body.
- The family holds a 9-digit Samagra member ID from the Samagra portal.
- The nikah will be solemnised in a group function organised by the panchayat or the urban local body.
You are not eligible and cannot apply if:
- The bride is under 18 or the groom is under 21 on the marriage date. There is no relaxation, and an under-age case becomes a child-marriage matter.
- The nikah is a private ceremony outside the official group function.
- The family does not live in Madhya Pradesh.
- The family has no Samagra registration at the registration cut-off.
- The same bride has already been assisted, under either Nikah Yojana or Kanya Vivah Yojana. Aadhaar-based de-duplication is applied across both.
Widows, divorced women and abandoned women are inside the scheme in their own right. A widow remarrying can be the beneficiary herself rather than only a never-married daughter, which is the point most families get wrong.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana
- Register the family on Samagra at samagra.gov.in or through the gram panchayat, and note the bride's 9-digit Samagra member ID.
- Ask the local body for the date of the next group nikah function, the gram panchayat or janpad panchayat in rural areas, the nagar nigam, nagar palika or nagar panchayat in urban areas.
- Collect the prescribed application form from that office. The form is free of charge.
- Complete the form and attach age proofs for both bride and groom, the Samagra ID, residence proof, Aadhaar copies and a copy of the bride's bank passbook.
- Submit the application to the same office before the registration cut-off for the announced function, which usually closes weeks in advance.
- Take an acknowledgement with a case or registration number. The office enters the case on vivahportal.mp.gov.in.
- Attend the group nikah on the announced date with both bride and groom. Age and identity verification happens at the function.
- Collect the goods at the function and then watch the bride's bank account for the DBT credit of the cash portion.
Families cannot file this application themselves online. The state's online record is created by the local body; the family's task is correct paperwork, submitted before the cut-off.
How do I check the status of a Nikah Yojana application?
- Go back to the office that took your form with the acknowledgement number and Samagra ID and ask for the case status on the vivah portal.
- Check the bride's passbook and SMS alerts for the DBT credit in the weeks after the function.
- Escalate to the Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat in rural areas, or the Municipal Commissioner or Chief Municipal Officer in urban areas, these are the sanctioning authorities for the department's social assistance schemes.
- If there is still no answer, file a complaint on CM Helpline 181.
Why do Nikah Yojana applications fail?
- The nikah was held privately rather than in the government group function. This is the single largest cause and it cannot be corrected afterwards.
- Age condition not met — bride under 18 or groom under 21.
- Samagra mismatch, where the name or date of birth on the Samagra record differs from the age proof. Correct the Samagra record first.
- Bank account failure. The account is dormant, is not in the bride's own name, or is not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT bounces back to the treasury.
- Duplicate claim detected across Nikah and Kanya Vivah for the same bride.
- Late submission after the function's registration cut-off.
Two of these. The Samagra mismatch and the un-seeded bank account: fail silently. Nothing is refused on paper; the money simply never arrives. Fix both before the function rather than after.
Key dates
Madhya Pradesh announces group nikah functions district by district and body by body through the year rather than on one state-wide calendar. There is therefore no single last date to apply. The real deadline for any family is the registration cut-off for the specific function it wants to join, announced locally by the panchayat or urban body. Start the Samagra and bank account work before that announcement, because those are the steps that take time.
Help and grievance redressal
- CM Helpline 181, the Madhya Pradesh grievance line for state schemes, reachable by phone, the CM Helpline mobile app and WhatsApp.
- Directorate of Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare, Link Road No. 3, Bhopal 462016 to phone 0755-2556916, email dir.socialjustice@mp.gov.in.

Applying under Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana is free. No form fee, no registration fee, and no lawful cut for anyone from the assistance. Anyone demanding money to add a name to the group nikah list is not authorised to do so, and that demand is itself a valid complaint on CM Helpline 181.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana for?
Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana is for Muslim brides from poor, destitute, widowed, divorced and abandoned families in Madhya Pradesh who marry in a government-organised group nikah function. The Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare Department lists it alongside the Kanya Vivah scheme and runs both through the same marriage portal.
How much assistance does the Nikah scheme give?
Madhya Pradesh pays the Nikah beneficiary at the same rate that applies to Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana for that year, part as goods handed over at the function and part as a DBT credit to the bride's bank account. The state has revised the figure more than once, so confirm the amount for your district's current function with the panchayat or nagar palika rather than relying on an older published number.
Can a nikah performed at home get this assistance?
No. Assistance under Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana is tied to a group nikah function organised by the gram panchayat, janpad panchayat, nagar palika or nagar nigam. A private nikah at home or at a mosque outside the official function does not qualify.
What is the minimum age under Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana?
The bride must have completed 18 years and the groom 21 years on the date of the nikah. Madhya Pradesh checks both ages at the function itself, and an under-age case is refused and reportable under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
Can a family apply under both Nikah Yojana and Kanya Vivah Yojana?
No. A bride is assisted once, under one route. Both schemes run on the same vivah portal with Aadhaar-based de-duplication, so a duplicate claim across the two is detected and rejected.
Is Samagra ID compulsory?
Yes. The local body records the case on vivahportal.mp.gov.in against the bride's 9-digit Samagra member ID, so the family must be registered on samagra.gov.in before the registration cut-off for the function.
Where do I apply for Mukhyamantri Nikah Yojana?
Apply at the gram panchayat or janpad panchayat if you live in a rural area and at the nagar nigam, nagar palika or nagar panchayat if you live in a town. There is no self-service online form for families — the office enters the case on the state vivah portal on your behalf.
What if the money never arrives after the nikah?
Register a complaint on CM Helpline 181 with the Samagra ID, the date of the group function and the name of the organising body. The Directorate of Social Justice at Bhopal on 0755-2556916 is the departmental escalation, and the District Panchayat CEO or Municipal Commissioner is the sanctioning authority who can be approached directly.
