What is Mukhyamantri Samajik Suraksha Kalyani Pension Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Samajik Suraksha Kalyani Pension Yojana is Madhya Pradesh's own widow pension, run by the Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare Department. According to the state's social security pension portal, the scheme was introduced in 2018 and pays Rs 600 per month to a woman classified as kalyani. The term Madhya Pradesh uses for a widow: from the age of 18 onwards.

The scheme was built to close a real gap. The central Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, which Madhya Pradesh also runs, only covers widows aged 40 to 79 and only those below the poverty line. That left a young widow of 25, or a widow whose household is just above the BPL line, with nothing at all. The Kalyani pension covers both groups: it starts at 18, sets no upper age limit and does not ask for a BPL card.

Core facts

  • Rs 600 per month, as stated on the department's scheme page.
  • Minimum age 18 years, with no upper limit stated.
  • No BPL condition: income tax status is the financial filter instead.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the widow's own bank account.
  • Decision deadline 15 working days under the Public Service Guarantee Act,

The scheme is commonly searched for simply as the Kalyani pension, and appears on the portal as मुख्यमंत्री सामाजिक सुरक्षा कल्याणी पेंशन योजना.

Who is eligible for the Kalyani pension?

You can be considered if:

  • You are a widow, referred to in the scheme as a kalyani.
  • You are 18 years of age or above. No upper age limit is stated.
  • You are a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • You are not an income tax payer.
  • You are not employed by a government agency or a government-funded organisation.
  • You are not already receiving a family pension.
  • You are registered on the Samagra portal.

You are not eligible and cannot apply if:

  • You are not a widow. Unmarried women aged 50 and above should apply under the Mukhyamantri Avivahita Pension Yojana instead.
  • You are under 18 years of age.
  • You pay income tax.
  • You are employed by a government agency or a government-funded organisation.
  • You already draw a family pension. A widow receiving her late husband's service or family pension is outside this scheme.
  • You are not a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • You are not registered on Samagra, which must be completed first.

The family pension exclusion is the one that catches people out most often. A widow whose husband was a government servant and who receives his family pension is not eligible for the Kalyani pension, however small that family pension is.

How does the Kalyani pension compare with the Indira Gandhi widow pension?

Kalyani Pension Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension
Amount in MP Rs 600 per month Rs 600 per month
Age band 18 and above, no upper limit 40 to 79 years
BPL card Not required Required
Running since 2018 1 April 2009 in MP
Funded as State scheme Central NSAP component

A widow can be sanctioned only one of the two. In practice a BPL widow aged 40 to 79 is usually taken under the Indira Gandhi scheme, and a widow who is younger than 40, older than 79, or not on the BPL list falls to the Kalyani pension. If you are not sure which applies to you, the gram panchayat secretary or the urban body clerk decides this at intake. You do not need to pick correctly yourself, but you do need to bring documents for both possibilities, meaning the BPL card if you have one.

How much is paid and how does it reach you?

The Kalyani pension is Rs 600 per month, or Rs 7,200 a year, at a flat rate across Madhya Pradesh. There is no age slab, no rural and urban split, and no lump sum on sanction.

Money moves by Direct Benefit Transfer into the widow's own bank account. Three conditions decide whether it actually arrives: the account must be in her own name, live and not dormant, and seeded with Aadhaar. A widow still operating an account held in her late husband's name is the single most common reason a Kalyani pension is sanctioned on the portal but never appears in the passbook. Open a single-name account in your own name and get the bank details updated at the local body before you chase anything else.

Once sanctioned, the pension continues without a yearly re-application, subject to the periodic verification the local body performs to confirm the beneficiary is alive and has not remarried.

How to apply for the Kalyani pension

Offline

  1. Collect the free application form from the gram panchayat or janpad panchayat in a rural area, or from the nagar nigam, nagar palika or nagar panchayat in a town.
  2. Fill the form and attach the husband's death certificate, age proof, three photographs, Samagra ID, residence proof and a copy of your bank passbook.
  3. Submit it at the same office and take a dated acknowledgement listing what you handed over.
  4. Follow up after 15 working days, the decision period set by the Public Service Guarantee Act, 2010.

Online

  1. Confirm your registration on samagra.gov.in and note your 9-digit Samagra member ID.
  2. Open socialsecurity.mp.gov.in, choose the pension application option and enter the Samagra member ID so the portal pulls your record.
  3. Select Mukhyamantri Samajik Suraksha Kalyani Pension Yojana and complete the form, entering bank details exactly as printed in the passbook.
  4. Upload the death certificate, age proof and photograph, record the declarations, then submit and save the acknowledgement number.

The sanctioning authority is the Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat in rural areas and the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation or the Chief Municipal Officer in urban areas.

How do I check my Kalyani pension status?

  1. Open socialsecurity.mp.gov.in and select the pension or beneficiary status option.
  2. Enter your 9-digit Samagra member ID, which the state uses as the pension index, so it works even if you lose the acknowledgement.
  3. Check whether the pension shows as sanctioned and which month was last disbursed.
  4. Compare against your bank passbook. A sanction on the portal with no credit in the passbook is a DBT problem to be fixed at the bank, not at the panchayat.
  5. If nothing shows after 15 working days, return to the office that accepted the form with your acknowledgement.

Why Kalyani pension applications get rejected

  • Death not registered, so no death certificate can be produced. Register the death first; nothing moves until then.
  • Samagra mismatch; name, marital status or date of birth in Samagra not matching the documents. Correct the Samagra record at the panchayat, then reapply.
  • Existing family pension, an outright exclusion that verification picks up.
  • Government employment of the applicant.
  • Income tax payer status.
  • Bank account failure — dormant, closed, joint, or still in the late husband's name.
  • Duplicate pension, where the same Samagra ID already carries the Indira Gandhi widow pension.
  • Remarriage discovered during verification, which ends the entitlement and can trigger recovery.

The record-level problems; Samagra mismatch, unregistered death, wrong bank account; cover most avoidable rejections, and each is fixable within days. The substantive exclusions are not.

Key dates and timing

Mukhyamantri Samajik Suraksha Kalyani Pension Yojana has been open since 2018 and Madhya Pradesh has announced no closing date. Applications are accepted through the year at any gram panchayat or urban body, and on the portal. The one date that binds the administration is the 15 working day decision window under the Public Service Guarantee Act, 2010, counted from the day a complete application is received, which is why an incomplete file, or one submitted without an acknowledgement, is effectively a file with no deadline attached.

Help and grievance redressal

  • CM Helpline 181, the Madhya Pradesh grievance line for state schemes, available by phone, the CM Helpline mobile app and WhatsApp.
  • Directorate of Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare, Link Road No. 3, Bhopal 462016 to phone 0755-2556916, email dir.socialjustice@mp.gov.in.
  • District Panchayat CEO or Municipal Commissioner / Chief Municipal Officer for a delayed or refused sanction.

Applying for the Kalyani pension is free in every mode. The form costs nothing, Samagra registration costs nothing, and no official has any claim on the Rs 600. A demand for payment to sanction or release the pension is itself a complaint worth registering on CM Helpline 181.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Kalyani pension in Madhya Pradesh?

Mukhyamantri Samajik Suraksha Kalyani Pension Yojana pays Rs 600 per month, as stated on the state social security pension portal. The amount is credited by DBT to the widow's own bank account and comes to Rs 7,200 over a year.

What is the minimum age for the Kalyani pension?

A widow must be at least 18 years old. The portal sets no upper age limit for this scheme, which is what distinguishes it from the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme's 40 to 79 band.

Is a BPL card needed for the Kalyani pension?

No. The eligibility conditions listed on the Madhya Pradesh pension portal for the Kalyani pension do not include a BPL card. Income tax payer status, government employment and an existing family pension are the exclusions instead. The Indira Gandhi widow pension is the scheme that requires a BPL card.

Who cannot apply for Mukhyamantri Kalyani Pension Yojana?

Women who are not widows, widows under 18, income tax payers, employees of government agencies or government-funded organisations, anyone already drawing a family pension, non-residents of Madhya Pradesh, and those not registered on the Samagra portal are not eligible.

Can a widow draw both the Kalyani pension and the Indira Gandhi widow pension?

No. A beneficiary is sanctioned one social security pension, and the state's single Samagra-linked pension record is designed to prevent two widow pensions running against the same member ID.

How long does the sanction take?

Applications must be decided within 15 working days under the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Guarantee Act, 2010. The District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer sanctions in rural areas and the Municipal Commissioner or Chief Municipal Officer in urban areas.

When was the Kalyani pension started?

Madhya Pradesh introduced the Kalyani pension in 2018, under the Social Justice and Divyangjan Welfare Department, as part of its social security pension set run on socialsecurity.mp.gov.in.

Does the pension stop if the widow remarries?

Yes. Eligibility rests on widow status, so remarriage ends the entitlement and should be reported to the local body. Continuing to draw the pension after remarriage exposes the beneficiary to recovery of the amounts paid.
