Senior Citizen ID Card in Rajasthan
Rajasthan state government scheme
Senior Citizen ID Card in Rajasthan is not issued as a separate certificate; the Social Justice and Empowerment Department instead registers older residents on the RajSSP pension portal, which runs four schemes including the Vraddhajan and Krishak Vraddhajan pensions. Applications go through SSO or e-Mitra, and RajSSP publishes helplines on 0141-5111007, 5111010 and 2740637.
Does Rajasthan issue a senior citizen ID card?
Rajasthan does not issue a standalone senior citizen identity card. The state's approach is different from a card-issuing one: the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Rajasthan registers older residents directly on RajSSP, the Rajasthan Social Security Pension portal at ssp.rajasthan.gov.in, and the registration itself: backed by Jan Aadhaar and an age proof; is what functions as senior citizen identity in the state.
RajSSP describes itself as the online system for managing pension schemes in Rajasthan and lists four schemes: the Vraddhajan Pension Scheme for old age, the Krishak Vraddhajan Pension Scheme for older farmers, the Vishesh Yogyajan Pension Scheme for persons with disabilities, and the Akel Narri Pension Scheme for single and widowed women. The portal grounds these in Article 41 of the Constitution of India, which directs the state to make effective provision for public assistance in old age.
For an older person in Rajasthan, then, the practical identity file is three documents deep: Jan Aadhaar (the family identity Rajasthan runs its welfare delivery on), a date of birth proof, and; once sanctioned, the Pension Payment Order from RajSSP. Age-based concessions at banks, hospitals, transport counters and the railways all read a date of birth rather than a state card, so a clean age proof is the operative document either way.
Who can and who cannot apply?
You can register with RajSSP if you are an older resident of Rajasthan listed on a Jan Aadhaar family record and you meet the specific pension scheme's age and income conditions. Rajasthan runs separate schemes for general old age and for older farmers, so a landholding cultivator and a non-farming applicant of the same age may be routed to different schemes with different conditions.
You cannot apply for a Rajasthan senior citizen identity card as such, the Social Justice and Empowerment Department does not publish one, so there is no form and no fee for it. You are also not eligible for a social security pension on the strength of age alone: the schemes apply income conditions, and an applicant who already draws certain other pensions or whose family income crosses the scheme's limit is excluded. And you are not eligible if you are not enrolled in Jan Aadhaar, since Rajasthan's welfare delivery reads eligibility off that family record.
There is no caste bar on the age-related schemes, though the department administers separate caste-linked programmes.
What documents does an older person in Rajasthan need?
- Date of birth proof: Aadhaar, birth certificate, secondary board certificate, passport, or an existing Pension Payment Order for a retired employee.
- Jan Aadhaar card, with the applicant listed as a member of the family record. This is the single document most Rajasthan welfare failures trace back to.
- Aadhaar card, used for identification on SSO and e-Mitra and as the payment link.
- Bank account passbook copy, because a RajSSP pension is credited directly to the beneficiary's own account.
- Residence proof for the tehsil — ration card, voter ID, electricity bill or domicile document.
- Income certificate, needed for the pension schemes and not for age proof on its own.
- Passport-size photograph in the format the portal or kiosk specifies.
How to apply for senior citizen registration and pension in Rajasthan
- Create or open your SSO login at sso.rajasthan.gov.in. Rajasthan routes citizen applications through the Single Sign On identity, and RajSSP applications are filed from there or through an e-Mitra kiosk.
- Check your Jan Aadhaar record first. Confirm that the senior citizen is listed as a member, that the date of birth is correct, and that the bank account against the member is the one currently in use. Correcting Jan Aadhaar afterwards is slower than correcting it now.
- Select the right pension scheme. RajSSP lists Vraddhajan Pension for old age and Krishak Vraddhajan Pension for older farmers, alongside Vishesh Yogyajan for disability and Akel Narri for single and widowed women. Picking the wrong one is a common cause of rejection.
- Fill the application with the name exactly as it appears on Jan Aadhaar and Aadhaar, the date of birth, the full address with village or ward, tehsil and district, and the bank account details.
- Attach the age proof, Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar, income certificate, bank passbook and photograph in the formats the upload screen states.
- Submit and keep the application number. Verification is done by the tehsil or block-level sanctioning authority before a Pension Payment Order is issued.
- Complete Jeevan Praman every year. Rajasthan facilitates the yearly life verification through CSC and e-Mitra centres, and missing it is the most common reason a running pension stops.
How to apply at an e-Mitra kiosk
- Visit an e-Mitra kiosk with originals and photocopies of Jan Aadhaar, Aadhaar, the age proof, the income certificate and the bank passbook.
- Ask the operator to file the RajSSP pension application in your name against your own Jan Aadhaar and SSO identity.
- Give your own mobile number so that the application number and status messages reach you rather than the operator.
- Pay only the notified e-Mitra service charge, which the kiosk must display and print on the receipt.
- Collect the printed acknowledgement carrying the application number, and use it to track the file.
How do you check status and raise a grievance?
Check pension status and beneficiary details on the RajSSP portal at ssp.rajasthan.gov.in with the application or PPO number from your acknowledgement, or ask any e-Mitra kiosk to look it up. RajSSP publishes three helpline numbers; 0141-5111007, 0141-5111010 and 0141-2740637, and the email ssp-rj@nic.in. The nodal officer named on the portal is the Additional Director (P&P), Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Jaipur. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department also operates a WhatsApp chatbot on 91 9462745980 for departmental queries.
Escalate a stalled file to the tehsil or block sanctioning authority that holds it before going to the department in Jaipur: most delays are a pending field verification rather than a decision.
What does it cost, and what about agents?
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department does not charge an older applicant for pension registration. What you pay is the notified e-Mitra service charge for the transaction, which the kiosk is required to display and to print on your receipt. Nothing beyond that printed amount is payable to any operator, clerk or middleman.
Because Rajasthan does not issue a senior citizen card, any agent quoting a price for one is selling nothing. Older applicants are a standing target for OTP and Aadhaar fraud in exactly this situation: never read out the one-time password sent to your phone, never let an agent substitute their mobile number on your Jan Aadhaar or RajSSP record, and never hand over an original passbook. File through SSO yourself or at a listed e-Mitra kiosk, and keep every receipt.
Why do Rajasthan applications get rejected?
- The applicant is not listed on a Jan Aadhaar family record, or the record shows a different date of birth.
- The declared income crosses the scheme's limit, or the applicant already draws an excluded pension.
- The wrong scheme was applied for: Krishak Vraddhajan instead of Vraddhajan, or the reverse.
- The bank account on file is dormant, closed or not linked to the applicant's Aadhaar, so the credit fails.
- Names differ across Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar, the bank passbook and the application.
- The annual Jeevan Praman verification was not completed, so a sanctioned pension stopped.
- The mobile number on record belongs to an agent, so the applicant never receives the OTP or the status alerts.
What else should an older person in Rajasthan do?
Keep the Jan Aadhaar record accurate, name spelling, date of birth, mobile number and bank account, because that single record decides how nearly every Rajasthan welfare payment reaches you. Diarise the Jeevan Praman verification each year and complete it at a CSC or e-Mitra rather than waiting for a payment to stop. Keep certified copies of the age proof for transport, banking and hospital concessions that read a date of birth rather than a card. Where a parent or senior citizen is being denied maintenance by children or relatives, the Maintenance Tribunal route under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act runs through the district administration. And note that the national Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY cover extends to Indians aged 70 and above irrespective of income, registered separately from any Rajasthan scheme.

Frequently asked questions
Does Rajasthan issue a senior citizen identity card?
Rajasthan does not publish a standalone senior citizen identity card; the Social Justice and Empowerment Department instead registers older residents on the RajSSP social security pension portal at ssp.rajasthan.gov.in. In practice the Jan Aadhaar card, an age proof and the Pension Payment Order together do the work a senior citizen card would do.
Which department handles senior citizens in Rajasthan?
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Rajasthan administers social security pensions for older residents through the RajSSP portal, with an Additional Director (P&P) in Jaipur named as the nodal officer. The same department runs the Palanhar, CM Kanyadan, inter-caste marriage and scholarship programmes.
What pension schemes does RajSSP run for older people?
RajSSP lists four schemes — the Vraddhajan Pension Scheme for old age, the Krishak Vraddhajan Pension Scheme for older farmers, the Vishesh Yogyajan Pension Scheme for persons with disabilities and the Akel Narri Pension Scheme for single and widowed women. The portal grounds these in Article 41 of the Constitution, which directs the state to assist the aged.
What is the RajSSP helpline number?
RajSSP publishes three helpline numbers — 0141-5111007, 0141-5111010 and 0141-2740637 — along with the email ssp-rj@nic.in. The nodal officer is the Additional Director (P&P) at the Social Justice and Empowerment Department in Jaipur.
How do I apply for a Rajasthan old age pension?
File the application through your SSO login on sso.rajasthan.gov.in or at any e-Mitra kiosk, attaching your Jan Aadhaar, Aadhaar, age proof, income certificate and bank passbook. The application is verified by the tehsil or block-level sanctioning authority before a Pension Payment Order is issued.
What is Jeevan Praman and do senior citizens in Rajasthan need it?
Jeevan Praman is the yearly life verification that a pensioner must complete to keep payments running, and Rajasthan facilitates it through CSC and e-Mitra centres. Missing the annual verification is the most common reason a Rajasthan social security pension stops.
What does an e-Mitra application cost?
e-Mitra kiosks charge the notified service charge for each transaction, which the kiosk must display and print on the receipt. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department itself does not take money from a pension applicant.
Can I check my Rajasthan pension status online?
Yes — the RajSSP portal at ssp.rajasthan.gov.in provides pension status and beneficiary lookup, and the same information is available at any e-Mitra kiosk. Keep the application or PPO number from the acknowledgement to use either route.
