Andhra Pradesh SC Post-Matric Scholarship
Andhra Pradesh state government scheme
The Andhra Pradesh SC Post-Matric Scholarship reimburses the full tuition fee and adds a monthly maintenance allowance for Scheduled Caste students studying after Class 10, from families earning up to Rs 2,50,000 a year. Published listings put the maintenance allowance in the Rs 550 to Rs 1,200 a month range. Applications are free and are filed online with Aadhaar authentication.
What is the Andhra Pradesh SC Post-Matric Scholarship?
The Andhra Pradesh SC Post-Matric Scholarship is the state's education support scheme for Scheduled Caste students studying after Class 10, administered by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The scholarship has two distinct components: reimbursement of the full tuition fee for the course, and a monthly maintenance allowance towards living costs.
"Post-matric" simply means after matriculation, that is after Class 10. The scholarship therefore covers a very wide span of study; Class 11 and 12 in a junior college, ITI and polytechnic diplomas, three-year degree courses, postgraduate programmes, and professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, law and medicine. A student who moves from a government school into a junior college and later into a degree course can be supported continuously, claiming afresh at each stage.
The two components answer two different problems. Fee reimbursement removes the admission barrier: the notified course fee, which for a professional course can run into tens of thousands of rupees a year, is settled through the state rather than out of the household's pocket. Maintenance allowance addresses what fee reimbursement does not touch; food, hostel or lodging charges, stationery, travel between home and college. Published listings describe the maintenance component for Andhra Pradesh SC students as falling in the range of Rs 550 to Rs 1,200 a month, with the lower rates applying to day scholars at the Class 11 and 12 stage and the higher rates to hostellers in degree, postgraduate and professional courses.
Andhra Pradesh runs this scholarship inside its wider fee reimbursement architecture, processed on the JnanaBhumi portal (jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in), which replaced the older AP ePASS system. Alongside the SC scholarship the same machinery delivers the state's tuition fee reimbursement and hostel maintenance schemes, which is why a student often finds a single application generating more than one sanction. Scheduled Tribe students are handled separately by the Tribal Welfare Department, and Backward Class, minority and EBC students by their own welfare departments, each with a slightly different income ceiling.
Who is eligible for the AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship?
You can claim if:
- You belong to a Scheduled Caste notified for Andhra Pradesh and hold a caste certificate issued by the Tahsildar or through Mee Seva.
- You are domiciled in Andhra Pradesh.
- You are currently enrolled in a recognised course after Class 10 to Class 11, Class 12, ITI, polytechnic, degree, postgraduate or professional.
- Your family income does not exceed Rs 2,50,000 a year, evidenced by a current income certificate.
- You maintained at least 75% attendance in the previous academic year, where you are a continuing student.
- You hold an Aadhaar-linked bank account capable of receiving direct transfers.
You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:
- You are not a Scheduled Caste applicant. This scholarship is category-specific and a caste certificate for another category will be rejected outright rather than redirected.
- You are a Scheduled Tribe student. ST students are covered by the Tribal Welfare Department's post-matric scholarship, which has its own income ceiling.
- You are not domiciled in Andhra Pradesh, even if you are studying at an institution in the state.
- Your family income is above the notified ceiling, or your income certificate has expired.
- You are already drawing another full-fee scholarship for the same course and the same academic year. Double benefit for one year of one course is not allowed.
- Your attendance fell below the required minimum in the previous year.
- You are enrolled in a course or institution outside the approved list. Andhra Pradesh's fee reimbursement rules exclude several categories of institution, and a student at a deemed or private university or in a distance-learning or correspondence programme should verify eligibility before counting on the claim.
The last point deserves emphasis because it produces the most disappointment. Category and income are checked at the household level and are usually settled early; the institution and admission-quota tests are checked later, and a student who has already paid a management-quota fee cannot retrospectively convert the admission into an eligible one.

How to apply for the AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship
- Secure admission first in a recognised institution and course, preferably through the convener quota, since admission route affects eligibility for the fee component.
- Get the caste certificate and income certificate before the portal opens. Apply at Mee Seva or the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam. These two documents take the longest to obtain and are the usual reason a student misses the window.
- Get your bank account Aadhaar-seeded. Visit the branch and ask for Aadhaar seeding and NPCI mapping, and confirm the account is not dormant.
- Register on the state scholarship portal. Open jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in, create a student registration and authenticate with the Aadhaar OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Fill the SC post-matric scholarship application with your personal details, caste and income certificate numbers, institution and course details, year of study and bank account details. Check that your name is spelt identically across Aadhaar, the caste certificate and the bank account.
- Upload the scanned documents in the formats the portal specifies, then submit and save or print the acknowledgement showing the application number.
- Get the institution to verify. The college or principal's office must confirm your admission, course and attendance in the portal. An application sitting unverified at the college stage will not move, so follow up in person.
- Track the claim to sanction and payment, and file a fresh application at the start of each subsequent academic year.
How do I check my scholarship status?
- Log in to jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in with your student credentials and Aadhaar authentication.
- Open the application and read the stage shown, submitted, verified by the institution, verified at district level, sanctioned, or paid.
- If the status reads paid but no credit has arrived, check the bank account's Aadhaar seeding before raising a grievance, because a failed credit almost always reflects an unseeded or dormant account rather than a cancelled sanction.
- Ask the college scholarship section, which can see the institution-side verification queue and the district forwarding.
- Call the state citizen-services helpline 1902, which handles queries on Sachivalayam-delivered welfare and can direct you to the district office.
Why do AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship claims get rejected?
- Defective caste certificate — issued by the wrong authority, in a different spelling, or for a caste not notified as Scheduled Caste in Andhra Pradesh.
- Expired income certificate. These carry a validity period; a certificate from three years ago is treated as no certificate at all.
- Income above the ceiling, or a mismatch between the declared and certified income.
- Attendance below the required 75% in the previous academic year.
- Institution or admission quota not eligible under the state's fee reimbursement rules.
- Duplicate benefit, another full-fee scholarship already claimed for the same course and year.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, blocking payment after sanction.
- Name or Aadhaar mismatch between the application, the caste certificate and the bank record.
- Institution never verified the application, so it lapsed at the college stage.
Most of these are correctable within the same academic year. An expired income certificate can be reissued at Mee Seva within days and the application resubmitted. A name spelling difference should be fixed at the source document: usually Aadhaar or the caste certificate, rather than by editing the portal entry, otherwise the same mismatch reappears at every annual renewal.
Where do I complain about this scholarship?
Start with the college scholarship section or principal's office, which holds the verification step and can see exactly where the file has stopped. For problems with certificates or household records, the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam or Mee Seva is the right desk. Escalate to the District Social Welfare Officer, who is the departmental authority for SC scholarships in the district, and use the state helpline 1902 to identify the correct office.
The application is free at every stage. No institution may charge a student for uploading a scholarship application, no agent can charge for a sanction, and the Aadhaar OTP used to authenticate the application should never be shared with anyone.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship pay?
The scholarship reimburses the full notified tuition fee for the course and adds a monthly maintenance allowance, which published listings describe as falling between Rs 550 and Rs 1,200 a month depending on the stage of study and on whether the student is a day scholar or a hosteller. The fee component has no rupee ceiling — it follows the fee notified for that course and college.
Who is eligible for the AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship?
Scheduled Caste students domiciled in Andhra Pradesh who are enrolled in a recognised course after Class 10 — Class 11 and 12, ITI, polytechnic, degree, postgraduate or a professional programme — and whose family income is within the notified ceiling of Rs 2,50,000 a year are eligible.
Who cannot apply for the AP SC Post-Matric Scholarship?
Students who are not Scheduled Caste, students without Andhra Pradesh domicile, and students already drawing another full-fee scholarship for the same course and year are not eligible. Scheduled Tribe students apply under the Tribal Welfare Department's own post-matric scholarship instead, not under this one.
Is there an attendance requirement?
Yes. Published scheme material records a minimum attendance requirement of 75% in the previous academic year, verified by the institution at renewal. A shortfall is the most common reason a continuing student loses a year's claim even though the first year was sanctioned.
Which portal do I use to apply?
Andhra Pradesh processes post-matric scholarship and fee reimbursement claims through the JnanaBhumi portal at jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in, which succeeded the older AP ePASS system. Because the state has changed both portal and scheme branding in recent years, check the current live portal before filing.
Does the money come to me or to the college?
The fee component settles against the institution's account or is reimbursed through the state's fee reimbursement route, while the maintenance allowance is credited by direct benefit transfer to an Aadhaar-linked bank account. A student should confirm with the college office that the fee has actually been adjusted against their account.
Do I have to apply again every year?
Yes. The scholarship is claimed for each year of the course and renewed annually rather than sanctioned once for the whole programme. Renewal checks continued enrolment, attendance and a current income certificate.
Is there any fee to apply?
No. The application is free. No college is entitled to charge a student for uploading the form and no agent can charge for "getting the scholarship sanctioned". Never share the Aadhaar OTP used for portal authentication with anyone, including college staff.
