Jagananna Vasathi Deevena (Maintenance Fee Assistance)
Andhra Pradesh state government scheme
Jagananna Vasathi Deevena is the Andhra Pradesh hostel and mess assistance scheme that pays Rs 10,000 a year to ITI students, Rs 15,000 to polytechnic students and Rs 20,000 to degree and PG students. Jagananna Vasathi Deevena is released in two instalments into the student's mother's bank account, with a Rs 2.5 lakh family income limit.
What is Jagananna Vasathi Deevena?
Jagananna Vasathi Deevena is the Andhra Pradesh scheme that gives students in post-matric education a yearly cash amount for hostel, mess and living costs. Jagananna Vasathi Deevena is the maintenance half of the state's post-matric scholarship pair; the other half, Jagananna Vidya Deevena, pays the tuition fee itself.
The distinction matters and is worth stating plainly. Vidya Deevena money never touches the student. It goes to the college against the notified tuition fee. Vasathi Deevena money is cash support and is credited to the student's mother's bank account, which the state adopted deliberately so that the amount reaches household spending on the student rather than being absorbed by the institution.
Processing for both runs on the Jnanabhumi portal at jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in, under the state's Social Welfare, BC Welfare, Tribal Welfare and Minorities Welfare departments together with the Higher Education Department. In the portal's own vocabulary, Vidya Deevena is RTF (reimbursement of tuition fee) and Vasathi Deevena is MTF (maintenance fee).
Main features
- Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 a year, scaled by course level.
- Paid in two instalments during the academic year.
- Credited to the mother's bank account, or the natural guardian's if the mother is deceased.
- Available to day scholars as well as hostel students.
- Requires 75 per cent attendance, certified by the college.
- No separate application. The Vidya Deevena application covers it.
Who is eligible for Jagananna Vasathi Deevena?
You can receive the maintenance assistance if:
- You are a resident of Andhra Pradesh.
- You belong to the SC, ST, BC, EBC, Kapu, minority or differently-abled category.
- Your family income is Rs 2.5 lakh a year or less.
- Your family holds less than 10 acres of wet land or less than 25 acres of dry land.
- Your family owns no four-wheeler and no urban property above 1,500 sq ft of built-up area.
- You are studying an eligible course; ITI, polytechnic, degree, B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, B.Ed, M.Tech, M.Pharmacy, MBA or a comparable programme โ at a government, government-aided or private college affiliated to a state university.
- You maintain at least 75 per cent attendance.
You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:
- A family member is a government employee or a government pensioner.
- A family member is an income tax payer.
- The family owns a four-wheeler, or holds land above the wet and dry limits, or urban property above 1,500 sq ft.
- Family income exceeds Rs 2.5 lakh a year.
- Your attendance is below 75 per cent for the instalment period, which suspends that instalment.
- The student's mother has no bank account and no natural guardian's account has been recorded, since there is then nowhere to credit the money.
Andhra Pradesh relaxes the income and vehicle tests for children of sanitation workers and for households whose livelihood is a taxi, auto or tractor. Confirm with your college scholarship section how the relaxation is worded in the current year's guidelines.
How much does Jagananna Vasathi Deevena pay?
| Course | Amount per year | Instalment 1 | Instalment 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| ITI | Rs 10,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 5,000 |
| Polytechnic | Rs 15,000 | Rs 7,500 | Rs 7,500 |
| Degree and other higher education courses | Rs 20,000 | Rs 10,000 | Rs 10,000 |
The two instalments are released within the academic year, historically around July and December, although the state notifies release dates each cycle and those dates have moved between years. Treat the month as indicative and the two-instalment structure as the reliable part.
The amount is intended for hostel and mess charges, but it is not conditional on living in a hostel. Day scholars receive the same amount, because the state treats the payment as general maintenance support for a student in higher education.

How to apply for Jagananna Vasathi Deevena
- Take admission in an eligible ITI, polytechnic, degree or PG course at a college affiliated to an Andhra Pradesh state university.
- Get a fresh income certificate and, if needed, a caste certificate at a Mee Seva centre. These are the two documents that most often stall an application.
- Open or confirm your mother's bank account. The maintenance amount is credited only to the mother's account, so an inactive, unseeded or wrongly spelled account will hold up the payment even when the sanction is fine.
- Apply through the Jnanabhumi portal at jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in, or hand the filled application to your college principal, who uploads your admission and course details. The same application covers both Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena: do not file a second one.
- Complete biometric authentication at a Mee Seva centre with your Aadhaar card. Until the fingerprint is captured, the application sits unverified.
- Have your attendance certified by the college for each term. 75 per cent is the floor for release.
- Track the sanction and the credit on Jnanabhumi, checking the MTF (maintenance) line separately from the RTF (tuition) line.
How to apply offline
- Collect the application form from the college scholarship section.
- Attach copies of the Aadhaar card, income certificate, caste certificate, rice card, admission letter and the mother's bank passbook.
- Submit the set to the principal, who uploads it to Jnanabhumi.
- Complete biometric verification at Mee Seva, which is compulsory whichever route you used to submit.
How to check your Jagananna Vasathi Deevena status
- Open jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in.
- Select the payment status or student status option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number or application ID and the captcha.
- Read the result for the sanction stage and the instalments released.
If the portal shows an instalment as released but nothing has reached the account, the problem is almost always at the bank end. A dormant account, a frozen KYC or a name mismatch on the mother's account. Check with the branch before raising a scheme grievance.
Why Vasathi Deevena instalments do not arrive
- Attendance below 75 per cent for the instalment period. This is the single most common reason a student who received the first instalment misses the second.
- Mother's bank account inactive, KYC-pending or wrongly recorded.
- Income certificate expired or showing income above Rs 2.5 lakh.
- Asset flag raised in household verification; four-wheeler, excess land or urban property above 1,500 sq ft.
- Government employee, pensioner or income tax payer identified in the family.
- Biometric verification not completed at Mee Seva.
- College did not upload admission or attendance data in time.
How to raise a grievance
- Helpline 1902, the Andhra Pradesh Grama and Ward Sachivalayam grievance number used for welfare schemes.
- College scholarship section, which handles attendance and upload issues and resolves the majority of cases fastest.
- District Social Welfare, BC Welfare or Tribal Welfare Officer, depending on the category you applied under.
- Grievance link on jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in for a written complaint with a reference number.
Jagananna Vasathi Deevena is free to apply for. No college, agent or middleman may charge for processing it, and no official will ask for your Aadhaar OTP or your mother's bank PIN.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Jagananna Vasathi Deevena pay?
Jagananna Vasathi Deevena pays Rs 10,000 a year to ITI students, Rs 15,000 a year to polytechnic students and Rs 20,000 a year to degree and other higher education students. Each amount is released in two equal instalments during the academic year.

The money is credited to the student's mother's bank account, not the student's own account. If the mother is deceased, the amount goes to the natural guardian recorded in the application.
Do I have to apply separately for Vasathi Deevena?
No separate application is needed. Students who apply for Jagananna Vidya Deevena, the tuition fee reimbursement, are automatically considered for Vasathi Deevena, since both components are processed on the same Jnanabhumi application.
Are day scholars eligible or only hostellers?
Both day scholars and hostel students are eligible. The assistance is framed as maintenance support for hostel, mess and study costs, and is not restricted to students living in a college hostel.
What is the income limit for Jagananna Vasathi Deevena?
Family income must be Rs 2.5 lakh a year or less. The family must also hold less than 10 acres of wet land or less than 25 acres of dry land, own no four-wheeler and own no urban property above 1,500 sq ft of built-up area.
Who is not eligible for Jagananna Vasathi Deevena?
Students from families with a government employee or pensioner, an income tax payer, a four-wheeler or land above the wet and dry limits are not eligible. Attendance below 75 per cent also blocks the instalment for that period.
When are the two instalments released?
The two instalments are released during the academic year, historically timed around July and December, though the exact release dates are notified by the state each year and have shifted between cycles.
How do I check my Vasathi Deevena payment status?
Open jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in, go to the payment or student status section, and enter your Aadhaar number or application ID. The result shows the sanction stage and the instalments credited to your mother's account.
