What is Thalliki Vandanam?

Thalliki Vandanam is the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department's annual cash transfer to mothers, designed to remove the cost barrier that keeps poor children out of school. Thalliki Vandanam pays Rs 15,000 per year per child to the eligible mother or guardian of every student on the rolls of a recognised school or junior college in the state. The name, in Telugu, means a salute to the mother, and readers will also see it spelt "Talliki Vandanam".

According to the 2026 scheme guidelines issued through GO 15 dated 16 July 2026, the assistance is extended to every eligible mother or guardian supporting the education of children studying in Classes 1 to 12, including Intermediate, in government, private aided, private unaided and residential schools and junior colleges across Andhra Pradesh. The benefit is paid irrespective of the number of children in the family, which is the single biggest change from the earlier Amma Vodi design that Thalliki Vandanam replaced.

Of the Rs 15,000, Rs 2,000 per student is deducted at source and set aside for school maintenance, hygiene and sanitation; in practice, toilet upkeep and cleaning staff at the child's own school. The remaining Rs 13,000 is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the mother, the father as single parent, or the guardian.

Main features

  • Rs 15,000 a year per child, with no cap on the number of children in a family.
  • Paid to the mother, keeping the money in the hands of the person who runs household education spending.
  • Covers Intermediate, so the scheme continues past Class 10 where dropout risk is highest.
  • Delivered entirely by DBT with no cash handling and no intermediary.
  • Rs 2,000 ring-fenced per student for the child's own school sanitation.

Who is eligible for Thalliki Vandanam?

Your household qualifies if:

  • The child is studying in Class 1 to Class 12 including Intermediate in a recognised school or junior college in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The household's monthly income is within Rs 10,000 in rural areas or Rs 12,000 in urban areas.
  • The land holding is within the notified ceiling, expressed as under 3 acres of wet land, under 10 acres of dry land, or under 10 acres of wet and dry land combined.
  • The mother or guardian holds an Aadhaar-seeded, operative bank account.
  • The family holds a rice card and is traceable in the state's household database.

Your household is not eligible if:

  • Any member pays income tax.
  • Any member is in government service or draws a government pension. Sanitation workers and Anganwadi workers are exempted, provided the household is within the income limits.
  • The household owns a four-wheeler. Taxis, tractors and autos used for a livelihood are exempted.
  • Monthly electricity consumption exceeds 300 units.
  • The household owns municipal property of 1,000 sq ft or more.
  • The student is pursuing an ITI, polytechnic or IIIT course.

Orphans and street children enrolled in schools through voluntary organisations are specifically brought within the scheme, subject to confirmation with the relevant department, so that a child without parents is not left out of a mother-linked benefit.

How to apply for Thalliki Vandanam

  1. Enrol the child in a recognised school or junior college in Andhra Pradesh and make sure the admission is entered in the school's records. The scheme runs off the enrolment database, not off a walk-in application.
  2. Give the headmaster your Aadhaar, the child's Aadhaar and the bank passbook so the mother or guardian is correctly linked to the student in the school record.
  3. Confirm the bank account is Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped at your bank branch. Ask the branch specifically for NPCI mapping, not merely for the Aadhaar number to be noted in the account.
  4. Let the school and the department complete verification. The School Education Department, working with the state's welfare department, screens the household against the income, land, vehicle, electricity and property tests.
  5. Check the published eligible list at the school when it is displayed, and raise a claim or objection at the school if your name is missing.
  6. Receive the credit by DBT into the mother's or guardian's account once the release is made for the academic year, and verify the amount in the passbook.

How to apply or correct records offline

  1. Visit the school headmaster's office with the Aadhaar cards and the bank passbook. The headmaster is the designated point of entry for the scheme.
  2. Ask for the student–mother linkage in the enrolment record to be shown to you and corrected if the name, Aadhaar number or account details are wrong.
  3. For a household eligibility dispute, approach the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam, which holds the household data used for the income and asset tests.
  4. Keep the acknowledgement of any correction request and follow it up before the next release date.

How do I check my Thalliki Vandanam status?

  1. Ask the headmaster to show the school's beneficiary list; the school-level list is the most reliable source because it is the one the department acts on.
  2. Use the state beneficiary management portal for a household-level check with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  3. Check the bank passbook or account statement for the credit, since the payment is DBT and shows as a government credit.
  4. If none of these show anything, file a grievance at the school and at the Sachivalayam with your application details.

The scheme guidelines require the welfare department to run an online grievance redressal mechanism with dashboards for time-bound resolution, and ineligible applicants may file grievances at the local welfare office.

Why does Thalliki Vandanam money fail to arrive?

  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or not NPCI-mapped. This is the single largest cause of failed DBT credits across Andhra Pradesh welfare schemes.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank account, often an initial or a surname spelling.
  • Child not linked to the mother in the school enrolment record, or linked to the wrong guardian.
  • Household failed an eligibility test; income, land, four-wheeler, 300-unit electricity, 1,000 sq ft property, income tax or government service.
  • Student in an excluded course such as ITI, polytechnic or IIIT.
  • Dormant or closed bank account, which returns the credit.

Fix the bank problems at the branch first, because the department cannot force a credit into an unmapped account. Fix the record problems with the headmaster, and the household eligibility problems at the Sachivalayam.

Key dates and payments

Thalliki Vandanam transfers of Rs 15,000 per student to mothers were reported as beginning on 12 June 2025 for the academic year, and revised guidelines for the following year were issued through GO 15 dated 16 July 2026. Because the release date is fixed each year by government order rather than by a standing calendar, parents should confirm the current year's release date with the school rather than assume a repeat of last year's date.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Thalliki Vandanam pay?

Thalliki Vandanam pays Rs 15,000 per year per child to the eligible mother or guardian. Rs 2,000 per student is deducted at source and retained for school maintenance, hygiene and sanitation, so Rs 13,000 reaches the bank account. There is no limit on the number of children per family.

Which classes are covered by Thalliki Vandanam?

Thalliki Vandanam covers children studying in Class 1 to Class 12, including Intermediate, in all recognised government, private aided and private unaided schools and junior colleges in Andhra Pradesh, and in residential schools and junior colleges.

What is the income limit for Thalliki Vandanam?

Household income must not exceed Rs 10,000 a month in rural areas or Rs 12,000 a month in urban areas under the 2026 guidelines. Households with an income tax payer, a government employee or a government pensioner are excluded, with exemptions for sanitation and Anganwadi workers within the income limit.

Is Thalliki Vandanam the same as Amma Vodi?

Thalliki Vandanam replaces the earlier Amma Vodi scheme run by the previous Andhra Pradesh government. The core idea — an annual cash transfer to the mother to keep children in school — is the same, but the amount, the guidelines and the coverage of Intermediate students were revised when Thalliki Vandanam was notified.

Who receives the money if the mother has died?

The father as a single parent, or the legal guardian recorded against the child, receives the payment. The bank account used must be Aadhaar-seeded in the same person's name, and the school headmaster must have the guardian linked to the child in the enrolment record.

Do I have to apply separately for Thalliki Vandanam?

No separate individual application form is filed. Enrolment flows from the school records — the headmaster links the student to the mother or guardian and the department verifies eligibility against household data. Parents should confirm with the headmaster that their child and their Aadhaar details are correctly entered.

Why did my Thalliki Vandanam money not arrive?

The most common causes are a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded or not NPCI-mapped, a name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record, the household failing an income or asset test, or the child not being linked to the mother in the school record. Take the passbook and Aadhaar to the headmaster to have the record corrected.

Are children in ITI, polytechnic or IIIT courses covered?

No. Students pursuing ITI, polytechnic and IIIT courses are excluded under the 2026 guidelines, because the scheme is framed around school and Intermediate education. Orphans and street children enrolled in schools through voluntary organisations are covered, subject to confirmation with the concerned department.
