What is YSR Cheyutha?

YSR Cheyutha is an Andhra Pradesh welfare scheme launched on 12 August 2020 that paid Rs 18,750 a year for four consecutive years, Rs 75,000 in total; to women aged 45 to 60 from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class and minority communities. Cheyutha is Telugu for "a helping hand", and the scheme was built as exactly that: a lump of capital, not a monthly dole.

YSR Cheyutha was delivered through Andhra Pradesh's Grama and Ward Sachivalayam network, with village and ward volunteers doing the household-level identification and the Backward Classes, Social, Tribal and Minorities Welfare departments handling their respective community cohorts. Payment was made by Direct Benefit Transfer straight into the woman's own bank account, with the Chief Minister releasing each year's instalment to all beneficiaries in a single statewide event.

The scheme's design assumption was that a woman in her late forties or fifties in rural Andhra Pradesh has the skill and the time to run a small enterprise but no access to starting capital, and that banks will not lend to her without security. Rs 18,750 arriving every year for four years was intended to buy a milch animal, stock a kirana counter, fund a tailoring unit or seed a petty trading business. The state paired the cash with tie-up arrangements involving large retail, dairy and consumer-goods companies so that a beneficiary who set up a retail point or bought a milch animal had a supply chain and a buyer rather than just money.

The fourth instalment was released in May 2024, with an allocation reported at around Rs 5,868 crore. That completed the four-year cycle for the cohort enrolled in 2020. Since the state government that took office in June 2024, no fresh YSR Cheyutha instalment or new enrolment round has been announced, and several schemes of that period were renamed or restructured. Women searching for this scheme should treat it as closed to new applicants and verify their individual position at the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam.

Who is eligible for YSR Cheyutha?

A woman could be covered if:

  • She is a permanent resident of Andhra Pradesh.
  • She is aged 45 to 60 years on the qualifying date.
  • She belongs to a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class or minority community, established by a caste certificate.
  • Her family's annual income is within the state's threshold, Rs 1,20,000 in rural areas and Rs 1,44,000 in urban areas, generally evidenced by a white ration card.
  • Her family's landholding is within 3 acres of wet land, 10 acres of dry land, or 10 acres of the two combined.
  • She has a bank account in her own name, Aadhaar-seeded, to receive the DBT.

A woman is not eligible if her household:

  • Owns a four-wheeler. Taxis, tractors and autos used for livelihood are excluded from this bar.
  • Includes a serving government employee or a government pensioner.
  • Includes an income tax payer.
  • Consumes more than 300 units of electricity a month.
  • Owns residential or commercial property above the notified built-up area in a municipal area, the threshold reported for this scheme was 1,000 square feet.
  • Has already received the benefit through another woman member. One household receives one benefit.

Andhra Pradesh applies these conditions across its welfare schemes as a common filter, referred to locally as the six golden rules, and the same checks run automatically against departmental databases before an application is approved.

How much did YSR Cheyutha pay, and when?

Instalment Amount Nature
Year 1 Rs 18,750 Annual DBT credit
Year 2 Rs 18,750 Annual DBT credit
Year 3 Rs 18,750 Annual DBT credit
Year 4 Rs 18,750 Annual DBT credit, released May 2024
Total Rs 75,000 Over four years

The payment is annual. Some third-party pages describe Rs 18,750 as a quarterly figure, which is wrong and would imply Rs 75,000 a year rather than Rs 75,000 over four years. The Rs 75,000 total is fixed and is spread across four equal instalments.

How to apply for YSR Cheyutha

The application route below is the one that operated while the scheme was open. It is documented here because women in the enrolled cohort still use the same counters for corrections and status checks.

  1. Visit your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with Aadhaar, caste certificate, white ration card and bank passbook. The village or ward volunteer covering your cluster of households can also initiate the application at your doorstep.
  2. Give your Aadhaar number for verification and confirm the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number. The scheme application is Aadhaar-authenticated, so an Aadhaar with an outdated mobile number has to be updated first.
  3. Select YSR Cheyutha from the citizen scheme application list and complete the form with your caste category, household details, land details and bank account.
  4. Submit and take the acknowledgement carrying the application number. Keep it — every subsequent status query runs off this number.
  5. Wait for field verification. The Welfare and Education Assistant or the ward welfare officer physically verifies the household against the six golden rules, and the file moves up through the mandal to the district for approval.
  6. Check the provisional list displayed at the Sachivalayam. Andhra Pradesh publishes eligible and ineligible lists in the village or ward, with the reason for rejection printed against each ineligible name.
  7. File an objection during the display window if you were wrongly excluded. Objections are received at the same Sachivalayam and re-verified before the final list is frozen.
  8. Receive the DBT credit in your Aadhaar-seeded account when the statewide instalment is released.

How to check YSR Cheyutha status

  1. Go to your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with your Aadhaar and application acknowledgement and ask the welfare assistant to pull up the record. This is the most reliable route.
  2. Use the state's beneficiary management portal, where a status check normally asks for the scheme name, the year, your Aadhaar number and a captcha, followed by an OTP.
  3. Read the eligible and ineligible lists displayed at the Sachivalayam after each verification round; rejection reasons are printed against names.
  4. Check the bank passbook or statement of the Aadhaar-seeded account, since the credit often arrives with no SMS if the registered mobile has changed.

Why YSR Cheyutha applications were rejected

  • Age outside 45 to 60 on the qualifying date, calculated from Aadhaar.
  • Failure at the six golden rules; usually a four-wheeler in the household, a government employee or pensioner, or electricity consumption above 300 units.
  • Duplicate household claim, where another woman in the same ration card had already been sanctioned.
  • Caste certificate not on record or not matching the category claimed.
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, in a different name, or dormant, so the DBT failed even after approval.
  • Aadhaar mobile number outdated, so the application OTP could not be completed.
  • Name and date of birth mismatch between Aadhaar, ration card and bank records.

Most of these are administrative rather than substantive, and the Sachivalayam is supported to correct the records and re-submit the case in the next verification round.

Help and grievance redressal

  • Grama / Ward Sachivalayam helpline: 1902
  • Your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam. The first and most effective point of contact for application, correction, objection and status
  • Mandal Parishad Development Officer or Municipal Commissioner, for cases the Sachivalayam cannot resolve
  • District Collector's grievance day and the state Public Grievance Redressal System, formerly Spandana, for escalation

YSR Cheyutha is free to apply for. No volunteer, agent or middleman may charge a fee to add a name to the list, and no official will ask for a bank OTP.

Documents required

Aadhaar card
The whole application is Aadhaar-driven — identity, age and de-duplication all run off the Aadhaar number, and the OTP goes to the Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Caste certificate
Establishes membership of a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class or minority community. Issued through MeeSeva or the Grama Sachivalayam.
White ration card
Used as the household identifier and as the working proof of below-threshold income for the six-golden-rules eligibility check.
Bank account passbook
Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer, so the account must be in the woman's own name and Aadhaar-seeded.

Collected with the application at the Sachivalayam for the beneficiary record.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does YSR Cheyutha pay?

YSR Cheyutha pays Rs 18,750 per year for four consecutive years, a total of Rs 75,000, credited by Direct Benefit Transfer to the woman's own bank account. The payment is annual, not monthly and not quarterly, which is the single most common misunderstanding about this scheme.

Who was eligible for YSR Cheyutha?

Women aged 45 to 60 belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Class or minority communities, who are permanent residents of Andhra Pradesh and whose family clears the state's income, land, vehicle, electricity, property and government-employment tests.

Is YSR Cheyutha still open for new applications?

No. The scheme ran a four-instalment cycle and the fourth instalment was released in May 2024, after which no fresh instalment or enrolment round has been announced. Women who were mid-cycle should check their status at the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam rather than assume a further payment is due.

Can two women in the same household get YSR Cheyutha?

No. The benefit is one per eligible household, and the state's beneficiary management system de-duplicates on the ration card and Aadhaar. A second claim from the same household is rejected at verification.

What was the money supposed to be used for?

YSR Cheyutha was framed as seed capital for a self-employment activity — a milch animal, a small retail stall, a tailoring unit or a petty trading business — rather than as a pension. The state tied the scheme to arrangements with large retail and dairy companies so that beneficiaries who bought stock or livestock had a buyer.

How is YSR Cheyutha different from a pension?

YSR Cheyutha is a time-limited capital grant paid annually for four years to women aged 45 to 60, while Andhra Pradesh's social security pension is a monthly payment that begins later in life and continues indefinitely. A woman could hold both if she met the separate conditions of each.

Why was my YSR Cheyutha payment not credited?

The usual reasons are a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a name mismatch between the Aadhaar and bank records, a dormant or closed account, failure at the six-golden-rules verification, or a duplicate claim from the same household. All of these are checked and corrected at the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam.
