What is Bihar Krishi Input Anudan?

Bihar Krishi Input Anudan, written in Hindi as Krishi Input Anudan Yojana, is the Agriculture Department, Government of Bihar's cash relief for farmers whose standing crops are destroyed or damaged by a natural calamity. The subsidy is paid per hectare of damaged area so that the farmer can buy seed, fertiliser and other inputs and sow the next crop without falling into moneylender debt.

Bihar delivers the subsidy entirely through its agriculture DBT portal at dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in, the same portal that handles the state's diesel subsidy, seed subsidy, farm mechanisation subsidy and PM-KISAN records. The gateway to all of them is a 13-digit farmer registration number, which is free to obtain.

The subsidy is event-driven, not permanently open. After a flood, a drought, a hailstorm, a storm or unseasonal rain, the state assesses damage and notifies the affected districts and panchayats. Only farmers inside those notified panchayats can then file, and only inside the short window announced for that event. A farmer who waits for a general "yearly application date" will miss it.

Key features

  • Paid per hectare of damaged area, not as a flat amount per farmer.
  • Rates differ for unirrigated, irrigated and perennial crops.
  • Capped at a reported 2 hectares per farmer.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer to the farmer's Aadhaar-seeded account.
  • Sharecroppers are included, not only landowners.

Who is eligible for the Bihar crop input subsidy?

You can claim if:

  • You are a farmer in Bihar with a valid 13-digit farmer registration number from dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.
  • Your crop was damaged by a notified natural calamity; flood, drought, hailstorm, storm or unseasonal rain; in the season covered by the notification.
  • Your land lies in a panchayat named in the affected list for that event.
  • You are the cultivator, whether as an owner-cultivator with a land record or as a sharecropper with a self-declaration countersigned by the landowner and attested by a ward member or panchayat representative.
  • You hold an active, Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:

  • Your land is in a panchayat not on the notified affected list, even if your own field was genuinely damaged. This is the single largest category of rejection and it is not appealable through the portal; it has to be raised with the block and district agriculture offices during the damage assessment stage.
  • You have no farmer registration number. Registration must come first.
  • You are claiming for a season or calamity outside the notification, for example filing a Kharif loss under a Rabi notification.
  • You file after the window closes for that event.
  • Your bank account is dormant, closed or not Aadhaar-seeded, which holds the payment even after approval.
  • You claim for more than the capped area. Reported guidance limits the claim to 2 hectares per farmer; area beyond that is not compensated.
  • Field verification does not support the claim, for example where the declared crop was never sown or the declared area exceeds the actual holding.

How to apply for Bihar Krishi Input Anudan

  1. Get your 13-digit farmer registration number first. Open dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in, choose farmer registration, and register with your Aadhaar number and mobile number using OTP verification, or complete biometric registration at a nearby Vasudha Kendra. The portal requires the farmer to be 18 or above with an active Aadhaar-linked bank account. Registration is free.
  2. Confirm that your panchayat is on the affected list published with the input subsidy notification for that calamity. Your Kisan Salahkar or Block Agriculture Officer can confirm this.
  3. Open the Krishi Input Anudan link on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in during the notified window and log in with your farmer registration number.
  4. Fill the claim form: select your district, block, panchayat and village, enter the crop sown, the damaged area in hectares or decimals, and whether the land is irrigated or unirrigated.
  5. Enter or confirm your bank details, checking the account number and IFSC character by character against your passbook.
  6. Submit the claim and print the acknowledgement carrying the application number.
  7. Cooperate with field verification. The Kisan Salahkar and Agriculture Coordinator inspect the declared area, and the panchayat and block agriculture offices approve the final list.
  8. Receive the subsidy by DBT into your Aadhaar-seeded account after sanction.

How to apply offline or with assistance

  1. Visit a Vasudha Kendra (Common Service Centre) in your block with your Aadhaar card, bank passbook and land document. The operator can complete both the farmer registration and the input subsidy claim online. Only the government-notified service charge applies.
  2. Contact your Kisan Salahkar, the panchayat-level agriculture worker, who assists farmers with registration and claims and who also conducts the field verification.
  3. Approach the Block Agriculture Office or the District Agriculture Officer if you cannot file at panchayat level, or if your panchayat has been left off the affected list despite genuine damage.

How much does Bihar Krishi Input Anudan pay?

Reported rates for recent rounds are:

  • About Rs 8,500 per hectare for unirrigated cropped land.
  • About Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated cropped land.
  • About Rs 22,500 per hectare where perennial crops are destroyed or where land is rendered unfit by sand or silt deposit.

Earlier rounds were reported at lower rates, around Rs 6,800 per hectare for unirrigated and Rs 13,500 per hectare for irrigated land, which reflects the disaster relief norms applied at the time. The rate is fixed in the notification for each event, so a farmer should read the notification for the specific calamity rather than assume the last round's figure. In every version the claim is subject to a reported maximum of 2 hectares per farmer.

Payment is made directly to the bank account with no intermediary. Neither the panchayat, nor a Kisan Salahkar, nor any agent handles the money at any stage.

How to check your Krishi Input Anudan status

  1. Open dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in and select the Krishi Input Anudan status or print option for the relevant year.
  2. Enter your application number or your 13-digit farmer registration number.
  3. The status shows whether the claim is pending verification, approved at panchayat or block level, sanctioned, or paid.
  4. If the status shows payment made but nothing has reached your account, take your passbook to the bank and check whether the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded.

The portal also lets you print your submitted application, which is worth keeping as proof of the area and crop you declared.

Why input subsidy claims get rejected

  • Panchayat not on the notified affected list for that calamity.
  • Farmer registration number missing or inactive.
  • Declared area larger than the verified holding, caught at field verification.
  • Crop declared that was never sown in that plot in that season.
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, dormant or closed.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record.
  • Duplicate claim for the same plot by two members of the same family, or by both the landowner and the sharecropper without a proper declaration.
  • Claim filed after the window closed for that event.

A rejection on documentary grounds can usually be cured and re-filed while the window is open. A rejection on field-verification grounds should be taken to the Block Agriculture Officer with the sowing evidence.

Key dates for Bihar Krishi Input Anudan

Bihar Krishi Input Anudan has no fixed annual date. Windows open after a calamity, separately for the Kharif and Rabi seasons, and typically stay open only for a few weeks. The 2026 round reported by state sources covered damage from rain, flood, hailstorm and storm to Rabi crops in March 2026. Farmers should therefore watch the notice board on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in and stay in touch with the Kisan Salahkar after any damaging weather event, rather than waiting for an annual date that does not exist.

The practical preparation is to complete farmer registration now, well before any calamity, because registration itself takes time and the claim window is short.

Help and grievance redressal

  • Agriculture Department helpline: 0612-2233555 or 1800-180-1551, as published on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.
  • Email: agridbtcell1@gmail.com, the DBT cell address listed on the portal.
  • Kisan Salahkar at panchayat level and the Agriculture Coordinator at block level, for verification and field-level disputes.
  • Block Agriculture Officer and District Agriculture Officer, for panchayat listing, rejection and payment disputes.

Farmer registration and the input subsidy claim are both free. No official or agent may charge a farmer for filing or approving a claim, and no government officer will ask a farmer for an OTP.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Bihar Krishi Input Anudan pay per hectare?

Reported rates run from about Rs 8,500 per hectare for unirrigated land to about Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated land and about Rs 22,500 per hectare for perennial crops, with a cap of 2 hectares per farmer. Bihar notifies the exact rate afresh for each calamity, so confirm the rate in the notification for your event.

Who can claim the Bihar crop input subsidy?

Any registered Bihar farmer whose crop was damaged in a panchayat notified as affected can claim, including owner-cultivators and sharecroppers. Sharecroppers claim on a self-declaration countersigned by the landowner and attested by a panchayat representative.

Is a farmer registration number compulsory?

Yes. The 13-digit farmer registration number issued on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in is compulsory for every Bihar agriculture scheme including the input subsidy. Registration is free, needs Aadhaar and a bank account, and can also be done at a Vasudha Kendra.

How do I know if my panchayat is on the affected list?

Check the district and panchayat list published with the input subsidy notification on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in, or ask your Kisan Salahkar or Block Agriculture Officer. Claims from panchayats outside the notified list are not accepted.

What is the maximum area I can claim for?

Reported guidance caps the claim at 2 hectares per farmer, regardless of how much larger the holding is. Damage beyond 2 hectares is not compensated under this head.

How is the claim verified?

The Kisan Salahkar and the Agriculture Coordinator verify the declared crop and damaged area in the field, and the panchayat and block agriculture offices approve the list before payment. Payment is then made by DBT to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

Is there any fee to apply for Krishi Input Anudan?

No. Both farmer registration and the input subsidy claim are free on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in. A Vasudha Kendra may charge only the government-notified assistance fee; no one may charge for approving a claim.

Can I claim input subsidy and crop insurance for the same loss?

Bihar replaced the central crop insurance scheme with its own state assistance approach, and the input subsidy is the state's main crop-loss payment. Check the current notification, since claiming twice for the same loss from two state heads is not permitted.
