What is Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Matric)?

Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Matric) is a Bihar Education Department incentive that pays Rs 10,000 once to a student who clears the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Class 10 examination in first division. The scheme was created to stop girls dropping out at the Matric-to-Intermediate junction, which is the single sharpest point of female dropout in Bihar's school system, and it is still searched under its transliterated Hindi name, Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana.

The Education Department now runs the Matric-stage incentive as the combined Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana, so first-division boys and girls are both registered through the same annual link. Registration, verification and payment all run on Medhasoft, the department's scholarship and DBT platform built by the National Informatics Centre, at medhasoft.bihar.gov.in.

Key features

  • One-time grant of Rs 10,000, with nothing to repay.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded account.
  • Tied to a single BSEB Matric result year, a separate registration link opens for each year's batch.
  • Fully online. There is no printed application form and no application fee.
  • Verified in two layers: first by the school or the institution where you sat the examination, then by the District Education Officer.

Bihar reopened the 2026 Matric registration on 25 May 2026, days after the BSEB result, which is the usual pattern: the window opens within weeks of the result and stays open for a few months rather than all year.

Who is eligible for the Bihar Matric Rs 10,000 incentive?

You can claim the incentive if:

  • You passed the BSEB Class 10 (Matric) examination in first division in the result year for which registration is open.
  • You appeared from a school or institution recognised by the Bihar School Examination Board.
  • You hold an Aadhaar number and a bank account in your own name, seeded with that Aadhaar.
  • Your name, father's name and date of birth match across the marksheet, Aadhaar and bank record.
  • You register within the window notified for your result year.

You cannot apply, or will not be paid, if:

  • You passed in second or third division. The main incentive is limited to first division. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe second-division candidates should separately check whether a notified SC/ST provision is open for their year rather than filing under the first-division link.
  • You passed from a board other than BSEB, for example CBSE or ICSE. The scheme runs off BSEB result data and cannot validate an outside roll code.
  • You supply a bank account that is not in your own name. A parent's account or a joint account is not accepted.
  • You have already been paid for the same Matric result. The incentive is once per student per result, not once per attempt.
  • Your registration is filed after the closing date for that year's batch.

Income, caste and residence are not filters at this stage. Unlike Bihar's marriage and pension schemes, the Matric incentive carries no income ceiling. A first-division pass and a valid own-name bank account are what decide it.

What documents are required?

Document Mandatory Notes
BSEB Matric marksheet Yes Scanned; roll code and roll number must match the form
Aadhaar card, front and back Yes Name must match the marksheet
Bank passbook first page Yes Student's own account, Aadhaar-seeded, showing IFSC clearly
Mobile number Yes For OTP and status alerts
Residence proof No Rarely asked online; keep ready for school verification

Scan every document as a clear, upright image. Medhasoft rejects blurred uploads and files above the size limit shown on the upload screen, and a rejected upload sends the whole application back a stage.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Matric)

  1. Open medhasoft.bihar.gov.in and find the Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana block for your Matric result year. The portal lists three alternate mirror links; use any one that loads, because they carry identical data.
  2. Select Student Registration and enter your Matric roll code, roll number and passing year exactly as printed on the marksheet. The portal pulls your name, father's name and division straight from BSEB records.
  3. Check the auto-filled result details on screen. If the division shown is wrong, stop and get the marksheet corrected through BSEB first, the portal will not overwrite board data.
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number and complete bank details: account number, account number confirmation, IFSC and bank branch. Type the account number twice, carefully; a single wrong digit is the most common reason payments bounce.
  5. Upload the marksheet, Aadhaar and bank passbook scans.
  6. Submit the form, then download and print the acknowledgement carrying your application or registration number. Keep it: every later status check and every grievance needs it.
  7. Report to your school or institution so the head can verify your entry on the institutional login. Your case moves no further until this is done.
  8. Track the case with the status link on Medhasoft until it shows district approval and payment.

There is no offline application route for this scheme. If you have no internet access, use a Common Service Centre or a cyber cafe, but do the bank-detail entry yourself or watch it being typed.

How much is paid, and when?

Bihar pays a flat Rs 10,000 for a first-division Matric pass. Payment is not instant: money moves only after your school verifies the entry, the District Education Officer approves the district list, and the department releases a sanctioned batch to the treasury. In practice students in one district are paid together as a batch, so a classmate being paid before you usually means your own case is stuck at verification rather than that the scheme has closed.

The transfer arrives as a DBT credit in the student's account. No cash is paid at the school, and no official is authorised to collect a share of it.

How to check your application and payment status

  1. Open medhasoft.bihar.gov.in and select the status or payment-status link for your scheme and year.
  2. Enter your application number, or your roll code and roll number, and submit.
  3. Read which stage is pending β€” school verification, DEO approval, or payment.
  4. If the screen shows a bank rejection, correct your account details through your school's institutional login, which is the only route for edits after submission.

Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them

  • Bank account not in the student's name: open an account in your own name and get the record corrected through the school login.
  • Account not Aadhaar-seeded, visit the branch and ask for Aadhaar seeding for DBT, which is different from merely giving the branch your Aadhaar copy.
  • Name mismatch between marksheet, Aadhaar and bank record. The Aadhaar or bank name is easier to correct than the board record; do that first.
  • Wrong IFSC or a closed account, common where a student moved branches.
  • Duplicate registration: filing twice does not speed the case up, it flags it.
  • School verification never done, the commonest silent failure. If your status has not moved for weeks, the answer is almost always at your own school, not with the department.

What if the portal or the window is closed?

Registration is year-specific. If the link for your Matric year is no longer live on Medhasoft, first check the alternate mirror links, then approach your school head with your marksheet and acknowledgement. Left-out first-division cases are handled at district level by the District Education Officer, who maintains the district beneficiary list. Any extension is announced on the Medhasoft home page, so check there before believing a message forwarded on WhatsApp.

Where to raise a grievance

  • Your school or institution head, for verification and for corrections to bank details after submission.
  • The District Education Officer (DEO) of your district, for approval delays and left-out cases.
  • The Education Department, Government of Bihar, through state.bihar.gov.in/educationbihar, for policy questions and unresolved cases.

Registration on Medhasoft is free. No agent, cyber cafe or official can charge a commission on your Rs 10,000, and no genuine officer will ever ask you for the OTP sent to your mobile number.

Documents required

BSEB Matric marksheet
Scanned copy of the Class 10 marksheet showing the division. The roll code and roll number on it must match what you type into the form.
Aadhaar card (front and back)
Scanned in a single readable file. The name on Aadhaar must match the name printed on the marksheet.
Bank passbook first page
Must be an account in the student's own name, Aadhaar-seeded and active. Joint accounts and parents' accounts are the most common cause of failure.
Registered mobile number
Used for OTP at registration and for status messages later.
Residence proof of Biharoptional
Not asked for in the online form for most applicants, because BSEB enrolment already establishes it, but keep it ready for school verification.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Matric) give?

The scheme gives a one-time incentive of Rs 10,000 to a student who passes the Bihar School Examination Board Class 10 examination in first division. The amount is a grant, not a loan, and is paid once against one Matric result. It is transferred directly into the student's own bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer.

Is the Matric incentive only for girls?

No, the Matric-stage incentive is now paid under the combined Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana, so first-division boys and girls both qualify. The scheme began as a girls-only incentive, which is why it is still widely searched as "Balika Protsahan Yojana", but the Education Department's Medhasoft portal today opens Matric registration for all first-division candidates.

Where do I apply for the Bihar Matric Rs 10,000 incentive?

Apply online at medhasoft.bihar.gov.in, under the Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Protsahan Yojana link for your result year. There is no offline form and no fee. Common Service Centres and cyber cafes may charge for typing help, but no one can charge for "getting your name added".

Do second-division students get anything?

Under the main first-division incentive, no. Bihar runs separate provisions for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who pass in second division, notified year by year, so an SC or ST student in second division should check whether that link is open on Medhasoft for their result year before assuming they are excluded.

Can I use my father's bank account?

No. The money is released to a bank account in the student's own name, seeded with the student's Aadhaar. Applications carrying a parent's account, a joint account, a closed account or an account with an IFSC mismatch are rejected at the bank-verification stage.

How do I check whether my Rs 10,000 has been released?

Use the payment or application status link on medhasoft.bihar.gov.in and enter your Matric registration number or roll code and roll number. The screen shows whether the school has verified you, whether the District Education Officer has approved the case, and whether payment has been pushed to your bank.

What if I passed Matric in an earlier year?

Each result year has its own registration link and its own closing date. If your year's link is closed on Medhasoft, the online route is no longer available and you must take the case to your school head and the District Education Officer, who decide whether a left-out case can still be added to the district list.
