Uniform Assistance for Notified Tribes and Denotified Tribes Castes Students Studying in Class 1st to 8th is a Gujarat state scheme run by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department through the office of the Director, Developing Castes Welfare. On the directorate's Gujarati scheme list it appears as the ganvesh sahay: uniform assistance, for children of standards 1 to 8.

The scheme pays Rs 900 per year to each eligible child from a Notified Tribe or Denotified Tribe community who is studying in class 1 to 8 in a government or government-aided primary school in Gujarat. The amount is intended to cover three pairs of school uniform for the academic year and is paid as cash by direct benefit transfer, not as cloth or as stitched uniforms distributed at the school.

Notified Tribes and Denotified Tribes, the communities historically listed under the colonial Criminal Tribes Act and formally denotified in 1952 to remain among the most educationally disadvantaged groups in Gujarat. Many are still partly nomadic, which makes continuous school attendance difficult, and the cost of a uniform is a real barrier at the elementary stage. Uniform assistance is therefore one of the state's simplest retention tools: a small, predictable annual payment that removes one specific reason a child might stop attending.

The Director of Developing Castes Welfare runs uniform assistance across four categories together; SEBC, EBC, minority and NT/DNT students. The directorate's own published figures for 2018-19 recorded 3,71,365 NT/DNT beneficiaries in that year, alongside 21,06,750 SEBC, 3,97,893 EBC and 3,55,320 minority students, which gives a sense of the scale at which the elementary-stage scheme operates. Those older directorate pages describe an earlier norm of Rs 300 for two pairs of uniform; the current published rate for this NT/DNT component is Rs 900 for three pairs.

Who is eligible for the uniform assistance?

Your child can be claimed for if:

• The child is a resident of Gujarat.
• The child belongs to a Notified Tribe or Denotified Tribe community recognised in Gujarat, evidenced by a caste certificate.
• The child is currently enrolled in class 1 to 8.
• The school is a government or government-aided primary school.
• A bank account exists in the child's name, or a guardian-operated account linked to the child, capable of receiving a DBT credit.

You are not eligible, and cannot apply, if:

• The child studies in a fully private, unaided school. This is the single most common disqualification and it applies regardless of caste.
• The child is in class 9 or above, or below class 1. The scheme stops at the elementary stage; students who have moved to secondary school must look to the post-SSC and secondary scholarship schemes instead.
• The family does not hold an NT or DNT caste certificate from a competent Gujarat authority. A certificate for a different category: SC, ST, SEBC or minority: routes the child to a different scheme, not to this one.
• The family is not resident in Gujarat.
• The same child has already been claimed for in the same academic year, whether by the school in a bulk filing or by a parent individually. Duplicate claims against the same Aadhaar number are rejected.

Note what is not a bar. There is no income limit, no minimum attendance percentage published as an eligibility condition, and no gender restriction. Families sometimes skip the application assuming they earn too much; under this scheme that assumption is wrong.

What documents are required?

The caste certificate and residence proof can usually be imported from DigiLocker inside the Digital Gujarat form, which avoids rejections caused by poor scans.

How to apply for the NT/DNT uniform assistance

1. Ask the class teacher first whether the school is filing a bulk application for its NT/DNT students this year. Many government primary schools do, and a second individual application for the same child will be rejected as a duplicate.
2. Open digitalgujarat.gov.in and register as a citizen with an active mobile number, or log in to an existing account.
3. Complete the profile — Aadhaar number, address, caste and bank account details. The scholarship form will not open on an incomplete profile.
4. Open the scholarship services for the Director, Developing Castes Welfare for the current academic year.
5. Select the uniform assistance scheme for NT/DNT students of class 1 to 8.
6. Fill in the application, the student's name and date of birth, school name and code, class, caste, and the bank account number with IFSC.
7. Upload the documents or import the caste and residence certificates from DigiLocker, then attach the school bonafide and the photograph.
8. Review and submit, and note the application number shown on the confirmation screen.
9. Give the printed acknowledgement to the school so it can verify the child's enrolment on the portal. The application does not reach the district office until the school completes that verification.

How to apply with help or offline

1. Visit a Jan Seva Kendra, a common service centre, or the school office and ask for assistance in filing the Digital Gujarat application.
2. Carry the caste certificate, school bonafide, residence proof, the student's Aadhaar card, a photograph and the bank passbook.
3. Collect the printed acknowledgement with the application number.
4. Confirm with the school in the following weeks that it has verified the application online.

There is no paper-only channel that bypasses the portal: assisted filing simply shifts the data entry to somebody else.

How do I check the application and payment status?

1. Log in to digitalgujarat.gov.in with the account used to apply.
2. Open My Applications and select the application number.
3. The stage will show as pending at school, verified by school, pending at district, sanctioned, or paid.
4. If it has been stuck at "pending at school" for several weeks, the delay is at the school; speak to the head teacher rather than re-applying.
5. For a sanctioned application with no credit, check that the account number and IFSC in the form are correct and that the account is Aadhaar-seeded.

Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them

• School is private and unaided. Not curable. Only government and government-aided primary schools are covered.
• School verification not done. The commonest practical block; the head teacher must approve the entry on the portal.
• Duplicate claim for the same child. Happens when the school files in bulk and a parent also files separately. Check before applying.
• Caste certificate for the wrong category. An SC, ST, SEBC or minority certificate does not qualify a child under the NT/DNT component. Apply under the matching scheme.
• Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded. Sanction appears but the transfer bounces. Seed the account at the bank branch.
• Class outside 1 to 8. A child promoted to class 9 during the year should apply under the secondary-stage schemes instead.
• Illegible uploads. A scan where the issuing authority's seal cannot be read is returned. Re-upload, or import from DigiLocker.

Key dates and the school-year cycle

The Director of Developing Castes Welfare does not publish a permanent last date for uniform assistance. Digital Gujarat opens the scholarship window each academic year, and in practice the sensible time to apply is soon after government primary schools reopen in June, when the school can confirm the child's class and enrolment for the new year. Applying late in the year risks the window closing before the school completes its verification.

Because the assistance is an annual payment, a fresh application is needed each academic year. A sanction in one year does not carry forward automatically to the next.
