Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra (DDU-KK) — Mega Skill Centre
Jharkhand state government scheme
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra is Jharkhand's mega skill centre scheme offering free residential training of at least 576 hours, including 160 hours of soft skills, to residents aged 18 to 35 who have passed Class 5. Registration is free on the JSDMS Hunar portal, and 70 per cent of certified trainees are to be placed.
What is Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra in Jharkhand?
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra, usually written as DDU-KK and spoken of locally as the "Mega Skill Centre" or Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra Yojana, is a sub-scheme of Mukhyamantri Sarthi Yojana, the Jharkhand government's umbrella skill development programme. Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society (JSDMS), an autonomous body under the Higher, Technical Education and Skill Development Department, runs it.
DDU-KK exists to solve a specific problem: short skill courses of 200 to 300 hours were producing certificates but not industry-ready workers. According to the JSDMS portal, DDU-KK therefore sets up large Mega Skill Training Centres on a Public-Private Partnership model, each with roughly 25,000 square feet of training space, and runs long-duration NSQF-aligned courses with a compulsory on-the-job training component. JSDMS describes the design as embodying "the scale, speed and standards of skill development in Jharkhand".
The scale is real. The DDU-KK dashboard on the JSDMS site records 3,99,677 candidates enrolled, 3,84,998 trained, 3,27,280 assessed, 3,11,697 certified and 2,07,486 given job offers.
What training does DDU-KK actually give?
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra offers a residential programme with a minimum course duration of 576 hours. Of that, 160 hours are set aside for soft skills, IT skills, spoken communication, presentation skills and personality development. The remainder is domain training plus mandatory on-the-job training with an employer, which JSDMS calls the distinguishing feature of DDU-KK compared with its shorter sister schemes.
The DDU-KK course catalogue on the JSDMS portal lists 93 job roles across sectors including Automotive, Apparel, Electronics and Hardware, Healthcare, Capital Goods, Beauty and Wellness, Tourism and Hospitality, IT-ITeS, Retail, Telecom, Iron and Steel, Logistics, Food Processing, Media and Entertainment, Construction and Green Jobs.
Examples with their official durations and NSQF levels:
- Electric Vehicle Service Technician (ASC/Q1429), NSQF Level 4, 576 hours
- General Duty Assistant Trainee (HSS/Q5107), NSQF Level 4, 576 hours
- Solar PV Installer; Suryamitra (SGJ/Q0101), NSQF Level 4, 576 hours
- Welder GTAW (ISC/Q0911), NSQF Level 4, 610 hours
- CNC Turning (CSC/Q0418), NSQF Level 4.5, 670 hours
- Drone Service Technician (ELE/Q7003), NSQF Level 4, 576 hours
- Digital Marketing Manager (MES/Q0706), NSQF Level 6, 940 hours
- Multi Skill Technician, Food Processing (FIC/Q9007), NSQF Level 4, 1,000 hours
Residential batches run full time, eight hours a day from Monday to Saturday. Non-residential batches run part time, four hours a day.
Who is eligible for DDU-KK, and who is not eligible?
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra sets a deliberately low entry bar so that school drop-outs are not shut out.
You are eligible if:
- You hold a domicile of Jharkhand.
- You are between 18 and 35 years of age.
- You have passed Class 5. This is the floor for both DDU-KK and the Saksham Jharkhand Kaushal Vikas Yojana.
- You are unemployed, lack an industry-recognised skill, or dropped out of formal education.
- You meet the job-role-specific qualification listed in the "Training Details" section of the portal, several Level 4 and Level 6 roles need Class 10 or Class 12.
You cannot apply if:
- You have not completed Class 5. JSDMS states plainly that Class 5 pass is the minimum eligibility for any of its schemes.
- You are below 18 or above 35 years. The relaxation up to 50 years for SC, ST and OBC candidates belongs to the block-level BIRSA scheme, not to DDU-KK.
- You are not domiciled in Jharkhand.
- You want a course not offered in your district. Candidates can only choose job roles running under projects assigned to their own district.
- You are currently attending school or college full time. JSDMS advises against this because attendance at both places is not workable, though a parallel matriculation through correspondence is allowed.
Being already enrolled in another JSDMS batch also blocks a fresh DDU-KK enrolment until 30 days after that batch ends.
How to apply for Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra
- Open the JSDMS Hunar portal at jsdm.jharkhand.gov.in and use the "Search Course" tool to find DDU-KK job roles running in your district. District-wise centre lists for DDU-KK and SJKVY are published in the notice section of the same site.
- Click "Registration" and then "Candidates Registration", or go to the programme sub-link, choose the DDU-KK scheme and click "Training Registration". Fill in your name, address, date of birth, education and preferred job role, and note down the registration number generated.
- Visit the DDU-KK Mega Skill Centre allotted to you with your original documents — domicile, Aadhaar, Class 5 or higher marksheet, age proof, bank passbook and photographs, and ask the counselling team for an aptitude test if you are unsure which trade suits you.
- Complete the centre's enrolment formalities, get your biometric attendance registered and collect the course material, stationery and uniform if you have opted for the residential mode.
- Attend classes and maintain at least 75 per cent attendance, complete the on-the-job training module, then appear for the Sector Skill Council assessment to receive your certificate and placement interviews.
Offline route: you may skip step 2 and walk into the nearest empanelled Training Service Provider centre, where staff complete the online registration on your behalf. This is the common route in rural blocks. Alternatively, call the JSDMS toll-free number 1800-123-3444 and ask the Operations team to guide you to the nearest DDU-KK centre.
What facilities and allowances come with DDU-KK?
Residential DDU-KK trainees receive free boarding and lodging, course material including study books, pen and stationery, a uniform, and transport between hostel and centre when the training centre is more than 1 km from the hostel.
Non-residential trainees under Mukhyamantri Sarthi Yojana receive a Pariwahan Bhatta of Rs 1,000 per month by Direct Benefit Transfer to cover travel from home to the centre.
After training, the Rojgar Protsahan Bhatta pays Rs 1,000 per month to male candidates and Rs 1,500 per month to female, divyang and transgender candidates who remain unemployed three months after completing the course, for a maximum of 12 months.
One limit is worth knowing before you choose the non-residential mode: if the training centre is within 20 km of your village, JSDMS provides no accommodation assistance. Beyond 20 km, you should opt for residential training.
How do I check my DDU-KK application or batch status?
Log in to the candidate section of jsdm.jharkhand.gov.in with the mobile number and registration number generated at the time of registration. The portal shows your batch allotment, centre name, attendance record and assessment result.
For allowance payments, check the bank account linked to your Aadhaar, because both the transport allowance and the unemployment allowance are paid by DBT rather than by cheque. If a payment does not arrive, contact the Training Service Provider that ran your batch first, then escalate to JSDMS.
Why do DDU-KK applications get rejected, and how do I fix it?
- No Jharkhand domicile on record. DDU-KK is a state-funded scheme; attach a domicile or residence certificate issued by the circle office rather than a rent agreement or voter ID alone.
- Age outside 18 to 35. Verify the date of birth on your matriculation certificate matches Aadhaar. Mismatched dates are a frequent cause of enrolment failure.
- Below the job-role qualification. Class 5 clears the scheme floor, but a Level 6 role such as Digital Marketing Manager will not accept it. Pick a Level 3 or Level 4 role instead.
- Chosen course not running in your district. Applications for job roles outside your district project are not accepted. Re-check the district-wise centre list.
- Attendance below 75 per cent. This is not a rejection at the application stage but the most common reason candidates end the course without a certificate.
- Aadhaar not seeded to the bank account. The enrolment stands, but allowances fail. Get seeding done at your bank branch before the batch begins.
What are the key dates for DDU-KK?
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra has no annual last date. Batches at Mega Skill Centres start on a rolling basis as they fill, so registration on the Hunar portal stays open through the year and the practical deadline is the start date of the next batch at your chosen centre. Training is being delivered in all 24 districts of Jharkhand under the Mukhyamantri Sarthi Yojana umbrella, which the state launched in 2022.
Where do I complain about a DDU-KK centre?
Call the JSDMS toll-free helpline on 1800-123-3444 for enrolment, batch, assessment and allowance problems. Email skilljharkhand@gmail.com with your registration number, batch code and centre name.
For written complaints, write to Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society, 2nd Floor, Labour Department Hygiene Building, behind Shram Bhawan, Doranda, Ranchi - 834002. Complaints about a private Training Service Provider, missing hostel facilities, uncollected uniforms, an assessment not scheduled, should first be raised with the centre manager in writing, then escalated to JSDMS with a copy of that letter.

Frequently asked questions
Does Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra charge any fee?
No, DDU-KK training is completely free. The Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society states that course fees as well as boarding and lodging are funded by JSDMS for every enrolled candidate. Residential trainees also get study material, stationery and a uniform at no cost.
Who can join a DDU-KK Mega Skill Centre?
Any person domiciled in Jharkhand, aged 18 to 35 years and having passed at least Class 5 can join DDU-KK. Some job roles set a higher entry qualification, so check the job-role table before choosing a trade.
How long is a DDU-KK course?
DDU-KK courses run for a minimum of 576 hours, and several job roles are longer — 700 hours for Mobile Phone Hardware Repair Technician, 840 hours for Camera Operator, 940 hours for Digital Marketing Manager and 1,000 hours for Multi Skill Technician (Food Processing). Every course includes 160 hours of soft skills training.
Is a job guaranteed after DDU-KK training?
No, a job is not guaranteed, but placement is a mandate of the scheme. JSDMS states that DDU-KK aims to facilitate employment for 70 per cent of successful trainees, and that at least 75 per cent of those who complete training will be placed at or above the state minimum wage. Government jobs are not offered.
What allowance do I get if I do not find a job after training?
Under Mukhyamantri Sarthi Yojana, the Rojgar Protsahan Bhatta pays Rs 1,000 a month to male trainees and Rs 1,500 a month to female, divyang and transgender trainees if they remain unemployed three months after training, for a maximum of one year, through Direct Benefit Transfer.
What happens if my attendance falls below 75 per cent?
You lose the right to sit the final assessment. JSDMS makes 75 per cent classroom attendance compulsory for assessment and certification, so poor attendance means no certificate and no placement support.
Can I rejoin DDU-KK if I drop out midway?
Yes, but only after a waiting period. JSDMS allows re-enrolment in any of its schemes 30 days after the end date of the batch you originally joined. A candidate who drops out gets neither the certificate nor the placement offer from the abandoned batch.
Who issues the DDU-KK certificate?
The relevant Sector Skill Council is the awarding body. Third-party assessors appointed by the Sector Skill Councils of NSDC conduct the external assessment, and successful candidates receive a co-branded, government-recognised NSQF certificate.
