Jharkhand International Migrant Workers Grant Scheme
Jharkhand state government scheme
Jharkhand International Migrant Workers Grant Scheme is not currently listed as a separately notified scheme with a published grant amount on any Jharkhand government portal. Workers from Jharkhand going abroad should instead register on the Shramadhan portal, which runs 3 migrant worker categories, and use the state migrant labour helpline 1800-3456-526.
Is there a Jharkhand International Migrant Workers Grant Scheme?
No separately notified scheme by that name, carrying a published grant amount and an application form, could be located on Jharkhand government sources. This guide says so at the top rather than at the bottom, because the honest answer is the useful one.
The checks made were the ones that would find such a scheme if it existed. The Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development page on jharkhand.gov.in lists its schemes and uploaded documents, and names Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana, ITI upgradation, model career centres, Rojgar Melas and the Jharkhand Unorganised Workers Social Security Scheme, no overseas migrant grant. The Shramadhan portal, which is the department's Comprehensive Labour Management System and hosts every migrant worker service the state runs, offers migrant worker registration, updating, ID card printing and card verification; again with no overseas grant module. The Jharkhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board's published list of fifteen schemes on the same portal contains no international migration benefit either.
Where a scheme name circulates without a corresponding notification, the practical risk is not that a reader misses out on money. It is that an agent charges a fee to "process" a grant that has no form, no sanctioning authority and no amount. Treat any such demand as fraudulent.
What follows is what Jharkhand does actually operate for migrant workers, which is the route a family in this situation should use.
What migrant worker support does Jharkhand actually run?
Jharkhand runs a state migrant worker registration system on shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in. The registration form, headed "Registration Form For Migrant Worker (Jharkhand State)" and in Hindi प्रवासी श्रमिक के लिए पंजीकरण फॉर्म, offers exactly three categories of work:
- Migrant workers going outside Jharkhand State — झारखंड राज्य से बाहर जाने वाले प्रवासी कामगार.
- Domestic women workers going outside Jharkhand State; झारखंड राज्य से बाहर जाने वाले घरेलू महिला कामगार.
- Migrant workers coming into Jharkhand from other states for work; अन्य राज्य से झारखंड में काम के लिए आए हुए प्रवासी कामगार.
All three are inter-state. There is no international or overseas category on the form. That is the clearest possible evidence about the scope of Jharkhand's migrant worker framework: it is built around the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, whose principal employer, licence and fee provisions the same portal administers.
Registration produces a migrant worker record and a printable identity card, and the portal publishes a Migrant Worker Verification Status dashboard that district officials use. Where a registered worker is stranded, injured or dies away from home, that record is what the district Labour Office works from when deciding relief and rehabilitation. No single fixed amount is published for such relief; it is decided case by case.
Who can register, and who cannot claim a grant
You can register as a migrant worker if:
- You are a worker from Jharkhand going to another Indian state for work, or a domestic woman worker doing so.
- You are a worker from another state coming into Jharkhand for work.
- You have an Aadhaar card and a working mobile number for the OTP-based registration.
You are not eligible and cannot apply for a fixed grant if:
- You are looking for a published overseas migration grant amount. None is published, so there is nothing to claim against.
- You have gone abroad for work, since none of the three Shramadhan categories covers overseas migration.
- You are not registered as a migrant worker at all, which leaves the district Labour Office with no record on which to act.
- You are being asked by an agent to pay for a grant application. No such form exists.
How to apply for Jharkhand migrant worker registration
- Open shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in and choose the Migrant Worker → Migrant Worker Registration option from the Services menu.
- Log in with your mobile number and the OTP sent to it, or create a username and password through the registration box.
- On the Registration Form For Migrant Worker (Jharkhand State), select the category of work that applies to you from the three options offered, then complete your personal, Aadhaar and destination details.
- Submit the form and print your migrant worker ID card using the Print ID Card option.
- Use Update Migrant Worker whenever your employer, destination or mobile number changes, and Verify Card to confirm the card is live.
Registration is free. A Pragya Kendra (Common Service Centre) can complete it for you for the small notified service fee, and the district Labour Office can do it in person.
What a Jharkhand worker going abroad should do
- Register on the Government of India's eMigrate system before departure, and travel only through a Registered Recruiting Agent. Overseas employment is regulated centrally under the Emigration Act, not by the state.
- Keep passport, visa, contract and agent details with a family member in India, along with photocopies.
- Note the contact details of the Indian Embassy or Consulate for the destination country before leaving.
- Also register on Shramadhan if you have previously worked inter-state, so a state record of your migration exists.
- Tell your family about the state migrant labour helpline, 1800-3456-526, which is the number to call first if contact is lost.
Help and grievance redressal
- Jharkhand migrant labour helpline: 1800-3456-526, 10 AM to 6 PM, as published on the Shramadhan Contact Us page.
- Labour Commissioner, Jharkhand: toll-free 1800 3456 526, Shram Bhawan, Doranda, Ranchi.
- Shramadhan technical helpdesk: 7632996057, Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM.
- Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development: Nepal House, Doranda, Ranchi 834002, phone (0651) 2490514 and (0651) 2490956.
- Grievance module on the Shramadhan portal, which issues a tracking number.
If the Government of Jharkhand notifies a dedicated grant for international migrant workers, it will appear on the Labour Department page at jharkhand.gov.in/labour and on the Shramadhan portal. Until it does, no amount should be assumed and no fee should be paid to anyone claiming to arrange one.
How to check your application status
Since there is no separately notified international migrant workers grant, there is no grant application to track. What can actually be checked is the status of your Shramadhan migrant worker registration:
- Go to shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in and log in with the mobile number and OTP used at registration.
- Open the Migrant Worker section and select Verify Card to confirm whether your registration is active and your ID card has been generated.
- Check the portal's Migrant Worker Verification Status dashboard, which district labour officials also use, to see whether your record has been verified at the district end.
- If the portal shows no record, or the status has not moved for several weeks, call the Shramadhan technical helpdesk on 7632996057 (Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM) with your registered mobile number ready.
- For anything beyond a technical login or status question, such as a stranded, injured, or deceased worker's case being handled by the district, contact the district Labour Office directly or the Jharkhand migrant labour helpline on 1800-3456-526 (10 AM to 6 PM), since case-by-case relief decisions are not shown on the portal dashboard.
No SMS-based status alert is published for this registration; checking online or calling the helpdesk are the only two real routes.
Common reasons for rejection
There is no grant application form to be rejected under this scheme name, so nothing gets rejected against a "Jharkhand International Migrant Workers Grant." What genuinely does fail, or gets stuck, is the Shramadhan migrant worker registration itself. The real failure points are:
- Choosing the wrong or no category. The form only offers three inter-state categories (worker leaving Jharkhand, domestic woman worker leaving Jharkhand, worker entering Jharkhand from another state). Applicants trying to record overseas travel often leave this field inconsistent with their actual details, and the registration gets flagged for correction rather than accepted as filed.
- Aadhaar details not matching. If the name, date of birth, or Aadhaar number entered does not match Aadhaar records, the registration cannot be completed or the printed ID card carries mismatched details, which then fails verification on the district dashboard.
- Mobile number problems. Registration and login run entirely on mobile OTP. A number that is switched off, unreachable, or later changed without using the Update Migrant Worker option leaves the record unverifiable and stuck at pending.
- Duplicate registration. Registering more than once with different personal details for the same worker creates conflicting records, which the district Labour Office has to reconcile before either record is treated as valid.
- Mistaking this for a grant claim. The single most common real-world failure is not a portal rejection at all: it is a worker or family paying an agent to "process" an international migrant grant application. No such form or sanctioning process exists, so the fee is lost and nothing is ever approved, because there was never anything to approve. The fix is to never pay for this specific claim, and to route any real need, whether registration help or stranded-worker relief, through the free Shramadhan portal, the district Labour Office, or the 1800-3456-526 helpline.

Frequently asked questions
Does Jharkhand have a notified International Migrant Workers Grant Scheme?
No separately notified scheme by that name, with a published grant amount and application form, could be found on Jharkhand government sources. The Labour Department's own scheme pages and the Shramadhan portal list inter-state migrant worker services, not an overseas grant.
What migrant worker categories does the Jharkhand portal actually cover?
Three, and all of them are domestic. The Shramadhan migrant worker registration form offers migrant workers going outside Jharkhand, domestic women workers going outside Jharkhand, and migrant workers coming into Jharkhand from other states for work. There is no overseas or international category on the form.
Who cannot claim a grant under this heading?
Nobody can claim against a published grant amount, because none is published. A worker who has gone abroad is not eligible for the Shramadhan migrant worker categories either, since all three are inter-state. Claims of a fixed overseas grant made by an agent should be treated as false.
What should a Jharkhand worker going abroad do instead?
Register on the Government of India's eMigrate system before departure and go only through a Registered Recruiting Agent, and keep the Jharkhand migrant labour helpline 1800-3456-526 and the local Indian Mission's contact details on hand. State-level relief is decided case by case by the Labour Department rather than by a standing grant.
Is there a Jharkhand helpline for migrant workers?
Yes. The Shramadhan portal publishes a migrant labour helpline on 1800-3456-526, available 10 AM to 6 PM, and a technical helpdesk for the portal on 7632996057, Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM.
What does registering as a migrant worker on Shramadhan give me?
A state migrant worker registration and an identity card, printable from the portal, plus a verifiable record with the Labour Department. That record is what the district Labour Office works from when a stranded or injured worker's family asks for help.
Is there any fee to register as a migrant worker?
No. Migrant worker registration on shramadhan.jharkhand.gov.in is free, and a Pragya Kendra may charge only the small notified service fee for assisted filing.
