What is the CA/ICWA (CMA)/CS Scholarship?

CA/ICWA (CMA)/CS Scholarship, the Directorate of Minority Welfare's own shorthand for it is IWCS, is a state-funded scholarship of the Directorate of Minority Welfare, Government of Kerala. Its stated objective, in the Director's signed 2025-26 guidelines, is "to support the education of students belonging to notified minority communities (Muslims, Christians (all sects), Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis) who are preparing for intermediate or final examinations for CA/ICWA(CMA)/CS in Kerala."

The scholarship exists because professional accountancy qualifications sit in an awkward gap. Chartered Accountancy, Cost and Management Accountancy and Company Secretaryship are not college degrees, so students pursuing them are usually outside the reach of college-linked scholarships and university fee waivers. They also carry real, recurring costs; institute registration fees, coaching fees, study material, examination fees and repeated attempts. A Rs 15,000 grant does not cover all of that, but it offsets a coaching instalment or an exam cycle for a family that would otherwise struggle.

Key facts from the official guidelines

  • Amount: Rs 15,000 per student for the academic year.
  • Granted once during the course period, not annually renewable.
  • 50 percent of scholarships reserved for female applicants.
  • Priority to BPL students, then APL students with family income up to Rs 8,00,000.
  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of Kerala and preparing for the examination in Kerala.

The scheme sits alongside the Directorate's other awards on the same portal. The Prof. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award, the APJ Abdul Kalam Scholarship, the Mother Teresa Scholarship, the C. H. Muhammedkoya Scholarship, ITC/ITI fee reimbursement and Civil Service coaching fee reimbursement. All of them share one login on mwdscholarship.kerala.gov.in.

Who is eligible for the CA/ICWA (CMA)/CS Scholarship?

You qualify if all of these hold:

  • You belong to one of the six notified minority communities: Muslim, Christian (all sects), Sikh, Buddhist, Jain or Parsi.
  • You are a permanent resident of Kerala.
  • You are preparing for the Intermediate or Final examination of CA, ICWA (CMA) or CS in Kerala.
  • For the Intermediate stage: you have completed the Foundation course, or you hold a degree with at least 60 percent marks (the graduate-entry route into the Intermediate level).
  • For the Final stage: you have passed the Intermediate examination.
  • You are in the BPL category, or in the APL category with annual family income up to Rs 8,00,000.

Who cannot apply:

  • Students not from a notified minority community are not eligible, and no income level changes that.
  • Foundation-stage students cannot apply. The guidelines name only the Intermediate and Final stages.
  • Students preparing for the examination outside Kerala, or who are not permanent residents of Kerala, are not eligible.
  • Intermediate aspirants who have neither cleared Foundation nor hold a degree with 60 percent do not meet the qualification bar.
  • APL families with income above Rs 8,00,000 are not eligible.
  • A student who has already received this scholarship once during the course cannot receive it a second time.

What documents are required?

How to apply for the CA/ICWA (CMA)/CS Scholarship

  1. Open the official portal at mwdscholarship.kerala.gov.in.
  2. Click "One-time registration" and create your account. One registration covers every Minority Welfare scholarship, so returning applicants skip this step.
  3. Log in with the username and password you created.
  4. Complete your profile — personal details, community, address, Aadhaar and bank account details.
  5. Add your qualification details; SSLC, Plus Two, degree, Foundation pass or Intermediate pass, as applicable to your stage.
  6. Click "Apply for scholarship" and select the CA/ICWA CMA/CS Scholarship.
  7. Click "Final submit" and download the printout of the registration form.
  8. Send the printout with all supporting documents to the Directorate of Minority Welfare, 4th Floor, Vikas Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, before the document deadline.

Both halves matter. An online submission with no printout reaching the Directorate is treated as incomplete, and a set of papers posted without an online application has no record to attach to.

How much does the scholarship pay and when?

The award is a flat Rs 15,000 per student for the academic year, paid into the applicant's own bank account. There is no separate hostel component and no tiering by stage, an Intermediate candidate and a Final candidate receive the same amount.

The single most misunderstood clause is that the scholarship is granted only once during the course period. A student who draws Rs 15,000 while preparing for the Intermediate examination cannot claim it again while preparing for the Final examination. Plan the timing accordingly: many students apply at the stage where their coaching costs peak.

What are the key dates?

For the 2025-26 cycle the Directorate of Minority Welfare set:

  • 9 January 2026: last date for filling applications online.
  • 12 January 2026: last date for the printout of the online registration form and other documents to reach the Directorate of Minority Welfare, Thiruvananthapuram.

The portal's own scholarship calendar showed the general window for Minority Welfare scholarships running from 20 December 2025 to 20 January 2026, with the scheme-specific guideline dates above governing this award. Dates are re-notified every year, so check mwdscholarship.kerala.gov.in before assuming last year's calendar repeats.

Why do applications get rejected?

  • Wrong bank details, the guidelines single this out, and the department will not carry the loss.
  • Bank account not in the applicant's own name. A parent's or joint account is not accepted.
  • Foundation-stage application, which falls outside the scheme.
  • No proof of currently studying the course. An old admission letter with no fee receipt or ID card is weak evidence.
  • Missing Intermediate pass certificate for a Final-stage applicant, or a missing Foundation pass certificate / degree mark list for an Intermediate applicant.
  • Income certificate above Rs 8,00,000, or an income certificate that has expired.
  • Printout not sent to the Directorate within the document deadline.
  • Community certificate missing, leaving minority status unverified.

Most of these are recoverable only inside the application window. Once the window closes, a rejected applicant has to wait for the next academic year's notification.

How do you check your application status?

The portal carries an Application Status link on the home page. Log in with your one-time registration credentials, open the status page and check whether your application shows as submitted, verified or sanctioned. The portal also publishes Guidelines and a Scholarship Refund Procedure document, the second of which explains how money wrongly credited is returned to the Directorate.

If your status has not moved for weeks after the closing date, the usual cause is that your physical documents never reached Thiruvananthapuram. Call the Directorate and quote your registration number before assuming rejection.

  • Office: Directorate of Minority Welfare, 4th Floor, Vikas Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram 695033.
