Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Gaon Ki Beti Yojana is a Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department scholarship that pays Rs 500 a month for 10 months, Rs 5,000 a year, to a village girl who passed Class 12 with 60 per cent or more and joined a graduation course. Girls in technical and medical courses get Rs 750 a month, Rs 7,500 a year. Applications are free and online.
What is Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
Gaon Ki Beti Yojana is a scholarship scheme of the Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, aimed squarely at one problem: girls from villages who finish Class 12 well but stop there because a college is far away and money is short. The scheme, launched in 2005 and often written as "Gaon Ki Beti Chhatravritti Yojana", pays a monthly scholarship to every village girl who clears Class 12 with 60 per cent or more and joins a graduation course.
According to the Higher Education Department, the scheme pays Rs 500 a month for 10 months of the academic year; Rs 5,000 a year, for general graduation courses, and Rs 750 a month for 10 months, Rs 7,500 a year, for technical and medical courses. Money is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own bank account.
What makes this scheme unusual
- No caste condition. Every category is eligible; residence is what counts.
- No BPL or income certificate is demanded. The filter is rural residence plus 60 per cent marks.
- Applies to all streams: arts, commerce, science, engineering, medicine, agriculture, law and other graduation-level courses.
- Runs for the whole graduation course, not just the first year, subject to yearly renewal.
Gaon Ki Beti Yojana has a twin. Pratibha Kiran Scholarship pays the same Rs 500 a month to girls from urban BPL families. Together the two schemes are meant to cover the girl who could not otherwise reach a college, whichever side of the village boundary she lives on.
Who is eligible for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
A student can apply if she:
- Is a girl student, permanently resident in Madhya Pradesh.
- Lives in a village. A gram panchayat area, not a municipal corporation, municipality or nagar panchayat area. Colleges normally also look for a Class 12 pass from a school located in a village.
- Passed Class 12 with 60 per cent or more from a recognised board.
- Has taken admission to a graduation-level course in a government or recognised private college or university.
- Holds a Samagra ID and a bank account in her own name.
A student cannot apply if she:
- Lives in a town or city. Urban girls from BPL families should apply for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship instead, which has almost the same money and its own portal flow.
- Scored below 60 per cent in Class 12.
- Is not enrolled in a graduation course. A girl doing a short certificate course or a diploma below graduation level is not covered.
- Is a boy student. The scheme is explicitly for girls.
- Is drawing another state scholarship for the same year against the same Samagra ID, which the portal will not allow.
How much does Gaon Ki Beti Yojana pay?
| Course type | Per month | Months | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| General graduation courses | Rs 500 | 10 | Rs 5,000 |
| Technical and medical courses | Rs 750 | 10 | Rs 7,500 |
Payment is made for 10 months of the academic year rather than 12, so the annual figure is fixed regardless of when in the session the application is sanctioned. Instalments are released after the college verifies the application and the department sanctions the batch, which typically means the money arrives in one or two tranches rather than as a strict monthly credit.

How to apply for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana online
- Open the MP State Scholarship Portal 2.0 at hescholarship.mp.gov.in and choose the student registration or login option.
- Register with your Samagra ID and mobile number, verify the OTP, and let the portal pull your name, date of birth and family details from Samagra.
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC on the profile. A profile without e-KYC cannot submit an application.
- Select Gaon Ki Beti Yojana from the scheme list for the current academic session.
- Fill in your Class 12 board, roll number and percentage, then your college code and branch code, taken from the college scholarship cell.
- Enter your bank account number and IFSC, checking digit by digit. The account must be in your own name and Aadhaar-seeded.
- Upload the marksheet, residence proof, domicile certificate, admission proof and photograph, then submit and print the acknowledgement.
- Hand the printout with self-attested copies to the college scholarship cell for verification. Until the college verifies it, the application is not in the sanction queue.
How to check your Gaon Ki Beti application status
- Log in to hescholarship.mp.gov.in with your Samagra ID and password.
- Open Application Status or the equivalent tracking link for the current session.
- Read the stage shown: submitted, verified by college, sanctioned by the department, or paid.
- If the status has been "pending at college level" for weeks, the delay is at the college, not the department. Follow up with the scholarship cell in person.
Why Gaon Ki Beti applications get rejected
- Residence recorded as urban in Samagra or on the residence proof, even though the student lives in a village. Get the Samagra address corrected first, because the portal reads from it.
- Class 12 percentage below 60, or a percentage typed wrongly and not matching board records.
- Wrong college or branch code, which pushes the application to a college that will never verify it.
- Bank account not in the student's own name or not Aadhaar-seeded, so DBT fails after sanction.
- Name mismatch across Aadhaar, Samagra, the marksheet and the bank record.
- College verification not done before the department closed the sanction batch for that session.
- Duplicate scholarship already sanctioned against the same Samagra ID.
Most of these are fixable within the same session if caught early, which is why students should check the status a fortnight after submitting rather than waiting for the money.
Renewing the scholarship in later years
Gaon Ki Beti Yojana is not sanctioned once for the whole degree. A student who received it in the first year must apply again on the portal for the second and third year, attaching proof of promotion to the next year. The eligibility test in later years is promotion, not a fresh 60 per cent bar, the Class 12 percentage is a one-time entry condition. A student who fails a year and repeats it will normally not be paid for the repeated year.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Gaon Ki Beti Yojana pay?
Gaon Ki Beti Yojana pays Rs 500 a month for 10 months of the academic year, which is Rs 5,000 a year, for general graduation courses, and Rs 750 a month for 10 months, Rs 7,500 a year, for technical and medical courses. The money is credited by DBT into the student's own account.
Who is eligible for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
A girl student who is a permanent resident of a village in Madhya Pradesh, passed Class 12 with 60 per cent or more, and is admitted to a graduation course in a government or recognised private college or university is eligible. There is no caste restriction and no BPL requirement.
Who cannot apply for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
Girls living in towns and cities are not eligible, urban BPL girls are covered by the separate Pratibha Kiran Scholarship instead. Boys cannot apply, and neither can a girl who scored below 60 per cent in Class 12 or who is not enrolled in a graduation-level course.
Is Gaon Ki Beti Yojana for every year of the course?
Yes, the scholarship continues through the graduation course as long as the student is promoted each year and reapplies on the portal for that year. It is not a one-time payment, but it is also not automatic. A renewal application must be filed each session.
How do I apply for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
Register on the MP State Scholarship Portal at hescholarship.mp.gov.in using your Samagra ID and mobile number, complete e-KYC, fill the Gaon Ki Beti application with your Class 12 marks, college code and bank details, submit it, and then get the printout verified by the college scholarship cell.
Can I take Gaon Ki Beti Yojana along with another scholarship?
A student normally cannot draw two state scholarships for the same purpose in the same year, and the portal blocks a second sanction against the same Samagra ID. Check with your college scholarship cell before applying for both Gaon Ki Beti and a post-matric scholarship.
My application was verified but the money has not come. What now?
Check the payment status on the portal first. The usual cause is a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded or is not in the student's own name. If the status shows sanctioned but unpaid, take the printout to the college scholarship cell and then to the district Higher Education office.
What is the last date to apply for Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?
There is no fixed statewide last date. The MP State Scholarship Portal 2.0 opens with each academic session and individual colleges set their own internal cut-off dates for verification, so applying and getting the college to verify the form as early in the session as possible is safer than waiting.
How can I check my Gaon Ki Beti application status online?
Log in to hescholarship.mp.gov.in with your Samagra ID and password and open the Application Status section for the current session. It shows whether the form is submitted, verified by the college, sanctioned by the department, or paid. If it stays "pending at college level" for weeks, the delay is at the college, not the department.
