What is the Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

Pratibha Kiran Scholarship, formally Pratibha Kiran Yojana, is a scholarship of the Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The scheme pays a monthly stipend to girl students from urban Below Poverty Line families who pass Class 12 with good marks and go on to a graduation course.

According to the Higher Education Department's material on the MP Scholarship Portal, the scheme pays Rs 500 per month for 10 months of the academic year, that is Rs 5,000 a year, straight into the student's own bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer. The stipend continues for the length of the graduation course provided the student is promoted each year and applies again.

Pratibha Kiran is the urban half of a pair. Its twin, Gaon Ki Beti Yojana, does the same thing for girls from rural areas, and the two schemes sit side by side on the same portal with the same 60% cut-off and the same Rs 500 monthly rate. Where you live decides which one you apply under, and no student may claim both.

Key features

  • Fully funded by the Government of Madhya Pradesh; no central share.
  • Girls only, and urban BPL families only.
  • Paid as a monthly stipend, unlike fee-reimbursement schemes such as Vikramaditya Yojana.
  • Applied for online only and free of cost on hescholarship.mp.gov.in.
  • Paid by DBT into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded account.

Who is eligible for Pratibha Kiran Yojana?

A girl student qualifies if all of these are true:

  • She is a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • She lives in an urban area, a municipal corporation, municipality or nagar panchayat area.
  • Her family is on the Below Poverty Line list.
  • She scored 60% or more in the Class 12 board examination.
  • She has taken admission in a regular graduation course at a recognised institution.
  • She has a Samagra ID, an Aadhaar number and a bank account in her own name.

Who is not eligible and cannot apply:

  • Boys, without exception.
  • Girls from rural areas, they must apply under Gaon Ki Beti Yojana instead, not under Pratibha Kiran.
  • Girls whose family is not on the BPL list, however modest the household income.
  • Girls who scored below 60% in Class 12.
  • Girls studying outside Madhya Pradesh.
  • Girls enrolled in distance, correspondence or part-time programmes rather than a regular course.
  • Girls already drawing another scholarship through the MP Scholarship Portal in the same year, the portal permits one scheme benefit only.
  • Girls who failed and are repeating the same year of the degree.

What documents are required for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

Document Mandatory Notes
Samagra ID Yes Portal pulls family and identity details from Samagra
Aadhaar card Yes e-KYC and bank seeding
BPL card or certificate Yes Defining condition of the scheme
Class 12 marksheet Yes Must show 60% or more
Urban residence proof Yes Municipal corporation, municipality or nagar panchayat area
MP domicile certificate Yes Permanent residence in the state
Bank passbook first page Yes Student's own Aadhaar-seeded account
College code and branch code Yes From the college scholarship cell
Passport-size photograph Yes Recent colour photograph

The urban residence proof and the BPL record together are what separate a Pratibha Kiran claim from a Gaon Ki Beti claim. Make sure both point clearly to an urban address, because a mismatch between the Samagra address and the residence certificate is a standard reason for a form being sent back.

How to apply for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship online

  1. Open the MP Scholarship Portal 2.0 at hescholarship.mp.gov.in.
  2. Choose Student Registration and enter your Samagra ID. Check every field the portal auto-fills from Samagra; name spelling, father's name, date of birth, gender and address type must all be right before you go further.
  3. Complete e-KYC with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, then save the applicant ID and password the portal issues.
  4. Log in and select Pratibha Kiran Yojana from the list of schemes shown for your profile. If the portal shows Gaon Ki Beti instead, your Samagra address is recorded as rural and must be corrected first.
  5. Fill in the academic details: college code, branch code, course, year of study, Class 12 board, roll number and percentage. Take the two codes from your college scholarship cell.
  6. Enter your bank account number and IFSC. The account must be in your own name and Aadhaar-seeded, otherwise the DBT will fail even after sanction.
  7. Upload the scanned documents; Class 12 marksheet, BPL proof, urban residence proof, domicile, passbook page and photograph — within the file size limits shown.
  8. Submit the application and print the acknowledgement with your application number.
  9. Submit the printout and a photocopy set to your college scholarship cell so the institution can verify and forward it before the verification deadline.

Is there an offline way to apply for Pratibha Kiran?

Pratibha Kiran Yojana has no paper form and no offline application route. Every claim goes through hescholarship.mp.gov.in. Students without their own internet access have three practical options:

  • The college scholarship cell, which is free and is also the office that has to verify the form anyway.
  • An MPOnline kiosk or Common Service Centre, which may charge only its own notified typing and scanning fee.
  • The district Higher Education office, for problems the college cannot fix.

How much does Pratibha Kiran pay, and on what schedule?

Pratibha Kiran Scholarship pays Rs 500 per month for 10 months, a total of Rs 5,000 per academic year. The 10-month figure reflects the academic session rather than the calendar year, so no stipend is paid for the vacation months.

Payment does not start the day you submit. Three steps have to complete in order: student submission, college verification, and departmental sanction. Only then does the DBT credit reach the bank. In most sessions the money arrives as a consolidated credit some months into the academic year rather than as 10 separate monthly transfers, so do not read a missing monthly credit as a rejection.

Across a three-year degree a student who applies and is sanctioned every year receives Rs 15,000 in total. Nothing is paid automatically in year two or three: each year needs its own application.

When can you apply for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

Pratibha Kiran opens once per academic session, after Class 12 results and college admissions. Dates are published only as notices on hescholarship.mp.gov.in. The portal's notice board for the 2025-26 session carried a Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran window of 5 to 15 August 2026, which is a short window by any standard and shows why watching the portal matters more than trusting a date on a private website.

Remember that the institution verification deadline is separate from and later than the student submission deadline, and that a form the college does not verify in time is not sanctioned no matter how correct it was.

How to check your Pratibha Kiran application and payment status

  1. Log in at hescholarship.mp.gov.in with your applicant ID and password.
  2. Open the application status page and read the stage: submitted, pending at institute, verified, sanctioned or paid.
  3. Pending at institute means the file is sitting with your college, go to the scholarship cell in person rather than waiting.
  4. Sanctioned but not paid almost always means a bank problem: an account not seeded with Aadhaar, a closed account, or a wrong IFSC. Fix it at your bank branch.

Common reasons a Pratibha Kiran claim fails

  • Rural address in Samagra, which pushes the student into the Gaon Ki Beti stream and makes the Pratibha Kiran option disappear from the portal.
  • BPL status not verifiable against the family's records.
  • Class 12 percentage below 60%, including cases where a supplementary paper lowered the aggregate.
  • Bank account in a parent's name, or not Aadhaar-seeded.
  • Wrong college or branch code.
  • Duplicate scholarship claim in the same academic year.
  • College verification missed before the portal locked. The most frequent cause of all.

Where to raise a Pratibha Kiran grievance

  • College scholarship cell or nodal officer. The correct first stop for verification, code and document problems.
  • Higher Education Department scholarship email: heschlor@mp.gov.in, listed on the MP Scholarship Portal specifically for Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran queries.
  • District Higher Education office, for sanction and payment disputes.
  • CM Helpline 181, the Madhya Pradesh government's general grievance line, if the department does not respond.

Pratibha Kiran Scholarship costs nothing to apply for. No official will ask for your portal password or your Aadhaar OTP, and nobody may take a cut of a scholarship credited to your account.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

Pratibha Kiran Scholarship pays Rs 500 per month for 10 months of the academic year, which comes to Rs 5,000 a year. The money is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into the girl student's own bank account and continues through the graduation course as long as she is promoted each year and reapplies.

Who is eligible for Pratibha Kiran Yojana?

Girl students from urban Below Poverty Line families in Madhya Pradesh who scored at least 60% in the Class 12 board examination and have taken admission in a regular graduation course are eligible. The student must be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh with a Samagra ID and an Aadhaar-seeded bank account in her own name.

What is the difference between Pratibha Kiran and Gaon Ki Beti Yojana?

Pratibha Kiran is for girls living in urban areas and Gaon Ki Beti is for girls living in rural areas. Both are Higher Education Department schemes on the same portal, both need 60% in Class 12, and both pay Rs 500 a month for 10 months. A student can claim only one of the two.

Can boys apply for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

No. Pratibha Kiran Scholarship is restricted to girl students, and boys are not eligible under any circumstances. The scheme exists specifically to raise the number of girls from poor urban households who continue into college after Class 12.

Is a BPL card compulsory for Pratibha Kiran Scholarship?

Yes. Belonging to a Below Poverty Line family is a defining condition of the scheme, not an optional preference, and the BPL status must be verifiable against the family's Samagra and BPL records. A girl from an urban family that is not on the BPL list cannot apply.

Does the Pratibha Kiran Scholarship renew automatically each year?

No. You must apply afresh on the MP Scholarship Portal 2.0 in every academic year of your degree, and you must have been promoted to the next year of the same course. Failing a year and repeating it breaks the claim.

When does the Pratibha Kiran application window open?

Dates are announced only as notices on hescholarship.mp.gov.in and change each session. The portal's notice board for the 2025-26 session showed a Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran window of 5 to 15 August 2026, so check the live notice before assuming any date you read elsewhere.

Why has my Pratibha Kiran payment not arrived?

The usual reasons are that the college has not yet verified your application, your bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded, the account is in a parent's name rather than your own, or the sanction is still pending at the department. Log in to the portal and read the exact stage shown before approaching anyone.
