What is the Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC Students in Madhya Pradesh?

Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC Students is the Madhya Pradesh scholarship paid to Other Backward Class students of Class 11 and Class 12. According to the Madhya Pradesh government's official scheme entitlement record published on the CM Helpline portal, this Class 11–12 component is delivered by the School Education Department through the MP Education Portal, and is described there as "पोस्ट मेट्रिक पिछड़ा वर्ग छात्रवृत्ति कक्षा 11 एवं 12, गैरछात्रावासी एवं छात्रावासी": post-matric backward class scholarship for Class 11 and 12, covering both day scholars and hostellers.

The stated objective is continuity and quality in education: keeping backward class students in school through the two years after matriculation, which is the stage at which drop-out is highest.

Madhya Pradesh runs this Class 11–12 component separately from the college-level backward class post-matric scholarship handled by the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department. The two are different schemes with different portals, and a student moving from Class 12 to college moves from this scheme to that one.

How much does the OBC post-matric scholarship pay?

The state entitlement record publishes exact annual rates:

Category Class Boys Girls
Day scholar (गैर छात्रावासी) Class 11 Rs 2,300 Rs 2,300
Day scholar (गैर छात्रावासी) Class 12 Rs 2,300 Rs 2,300
Hosteller (छात्रावासी) Class 11 Rs 4,000 Rs 4,000
Hosteller (छात्रावासी) Class 12 Rs 4,000 Rs 4,000

The rate is the same for boys and girls. The only variable is whether the student lives in a hostel, which raises the annual amount from Rs 2,300 to Rs 4,000. A difference of Rs 1,700 a year. Getting the hosteller flag right in the portal entry is therefore worth real money to the student.

Payment is made directly into the student's own bank account. The scheme record is explicit: "छात्रवृत्ति सीधे विद्यार्थी के बैंक खाते में भेजी जाती है", the scholarship is sent straight to the student's bank account, not routed through the school.

Who is eligible for this scholarship?

A student can receive the scholarship if:

  • The student belongs to an Other Backward Class notified in Madhya Pradesh, proved by a permanent caste certificate issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue).
  • Family income is within the Rs 3 lakh limit stated in the scheme record.
  • The student is studying in Class 11 or Class 12 in Madhya Pradesh.
  • The student has a Samagra ID and a bank account, so the profile can be created and the transfer made.
  • For a renewal, the parent gives a self-declaration that income has not increased since the previous year.

A student is not eligible if:

  • The student has failed a year. The record states categorically that a student who has failed by one year has no entitlement.
  • The student does not belong to a notified OBC of Madhya Pradesh. SC, ST and denotified/nomadic tribe students of Class 11–12 have their own separate post-matric scholarships listed on the same portal, and a minority student has the minority scholarships.
  • Family income exceeds Rs 3 lakh.
  • The permanent caste certificate is missing or was not issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue).
  • The student is not enrolled in Class 11 or 12 in a Madhya Pradesh institution.

What documents does the school need from you?

The scheme record lists the documentary requirements plainly:

  1. Permanent caste certificate issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue): not a temporary or self-attested caste declaration.
  2. Parent's self-declaration certificate regarding income. This scheme deliberately accepts a self-declaration rather than a full revenue income certificate, which removes a common obstacle.
  3. For renewal, a parent's declaration that "the income has not increased over the previous year".
  4. Photocopy of the marksheet of the previous class.
  5. Samagra ID, Aadhaar and bank passbook so the profile can be created and the payment routed.

How to apply for the OBC post-matric scholarship

This scheme is not a form the student fills in alone. The Madhya Pradesh record states that the student's profile is entered on the Education Portal by a teacher of the institution, on the basis of the records and certificates the student supplies.

  1. Collect your documents — permanent caste certificate from the SDO (Revenue), parent's income self-declaration, previous class marksheet, Samagra ID, Aadhaar and bank passbook.
  2. Submit them to the scholarship in-charge teacher at your school, and ask for your profile to be entered for the current academic session.
  3. The teacher enters the student profile on the MP Education Portal at shikshaportal.mp.gov.in according to the documents given.
  4. Check that your profile shows the correct category (OBC), the correct class, and the correct hosteller or day-scholar status, this last one decides whether you get Rs 2,300 or Rs 4,000.
  5. Verify that the bank account number and IFSC recorded are yours and that the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded.
  6. The Sankul Principal, who is the designated officer for the scheme, processes the entry, and the scholarship is credited to your account electronically.

There is no application fee. The record states plainly: "कोई आवेदन शुल्क नहीं".

How to check your scholarship status

  1. Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and use the student-facing scholarship or profile search, entering your Samagra ID or student ID.
  2. Check whether the profile shows the scholarship as sanctioned and whether a payment entry exists.
  3. If the profile is missing or shows the wrong category or hosteller status, go back to the school and have the teacher correct the entry; students cannot edit it themselves.
  4. For portal problems, call the MP Education Portal helpdesk on 0755-2600115.

Why this scholarship does not reach students

  • Profile not entered at all. The commonest failure is simply that the school never created or never completed the student's portal entry.
  • Wrong hosteller flag. A hosteller entered as a day scholar loses Rs 1,700 for the year.
  • Caste certificate not permanent or not from the SDO (Revenue).
  • Failed year. A student who failed a year is not eligible under the scheme's own condition.
  • Bank account problems, an account in a parent's name, a closed account, or an account not linked to Aadhaar, so the electronic transfer bounces.
  • Samagra mismatch. The name, date of birth or category in Samagra does not match the certificates.

Each of these is fixable at the school level if raised during the session rather than after the payment cycle has closed.
