What is Pratibha Yojana?

Pratibha Yojana is an achievement incentive run by the Tribal Affairs Department (Janjatiya Karya Vibhag) of the Government of Madhya Pradesh for Scheduled Tribe students who clear a national entrance examination and win a seat at a national institution. The scheme is listed on Madhya Pradesh district portals under its English label "Talent Plan" and in Hindi as "Pratibha Yojana", and the Khargone district portal of the Government of Madhya Pradesh records its launch on 14 September 2017.

According to that district portal, Pratibha Yojana pays Rs 50,000 where the parents' annual income is up to Rs 3,00,000 and Rs 25,000 where the income is above Rs 3,00,000. The payment is a one-time incentive, released when a student has actually taken admission, not a recurring maintenance scholarship.

The problem the scheme exists to solve is narrow and real. A tribal student from a village in Jhabua, Dindori or Mandla who clears JEE Advanced or NEET has to find seat-acceptance fees, travel to a distant city, and equip themselves for a residential campus, all within a few weeks of the result. Pratibha Yojana puts a lump sum into the student's hands exactly at that point. It does not replace the post-matric scholarship that funds the rest of the course; it removes the first financial barrier.

Main features

  • One-time incentive of Rs 50,000 or Rs 25,000, decided by parental income.
  • Restricted to Scheduled Tribe students who are natives of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Triggered by clearing JEE, NEET, CLAT, the AIIMS entrance or NDA.
  • Payable on admission to an IIT, NIT, NLU, AIIMS, NDA or an MBBS seat in a government medical college of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Applied for on MPTAAS, the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs and Scheduled Caste Welfare Automation System, with the district officer sanctioning.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded account.

Who is eligible for Pratibha Yojana?

A student can claim the incentive if all of the following hold:

  • The student belongs to a Scheduled Tribe notified for Madhya Pradesh and holds a valid ST certificate from the competent authority.
  • The student is a native and permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The student has cleared one of the notified national entrance examinations, JEE, NEET, CLAT, AIIMS or NDA.
  • The student has taken admission in an IIT, NIT, NLU, AIIMS, NDA or an MBBS course in a government medical college of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The parents' annual income is within the scheme's ceiling. Departmental and scheme listings describe an overall family income limit of Rs 6,00,000 a year, with the two payment slabs falling either side of Rs 3,00,000.
  • The student has a bank account in their own name, seeded with Aadhaar.

Who cannot apply or is not eligible:

  • Students of Scheduled Caste, Other Backward Class, EWS or general category. Pratibha Yojana as run by the Tribal Affairs Department is for Scheduled Tribe students only; other categories should look at the corresponding schemes of the Scheduled Caste Welfare and the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare departments.
  • Students who are not natives of Madhya Pradesh, even with an ST certificate from another state.
  • Students admitted to private engineering, medical or law colleges, or to state universities outside the notified list, however good the entrance rank.
  • Students who cleared an exam but did not take admission. Admission proof is the operative document.
  • Students whose family income exceeds the ceiling published in the department's guidelines for the year.
  • Students claiming a second time. The incentive is one-time, and a repeat claim for a second degree is treated as a duplicate.

How to apply for Pratibha Yojana

  1. Create a beneficiary profile on MPTAAS at tribal.mp.gov.in/mptaas using your Samagra member ID and Aadhaar number, and complete Aadhaar e-KYC. The Khargone district portal notes that registering the profile is mandatory before any application can be made.
  2. Note the MPTAAS profile ID generated at the end of registration and log in with it.
  3. Open the scholarship and incentive section and select Pratibha Yojana ("Talent Plan") for the current academic session.
  4. Fill in your entrance examination details, the exam name, roll number, rank or score, and the institution where you have taken admission.
  5. Enter the parental annual income exactly as stated on the income certificate, since this figure decides your slab.
  6. Enter your bank account number and IFSC from a passbook in your own name.
  7. Upload the caste certificate, income certificate, rank card, admission proof, Class 12 marksheet and passbook page, then submit and save the application number.
  8. Submit the prescribed application form with covering papers to the departmental district officer, the Assistant Commissioner or District Organiser, Tribal Affairs, who verifies and sanctions the payment.

How much is paid, and when?

Pratibha Yojana pays a single lump sum:

Parents' annual income Incentive
Up to Rs 3,00,000 Rs 50,000
Above Rs 3,00,000 (within the scheme ceiling) Rs 25,000

Payment follows district sanction and is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer. Because sanction depends on document verification and on budget release at district level, the credit typically arrives some weeks after the admission season rather than immediately on submission. There is no instalment structure and no renewal.

A student receiving Pratibha Yojana can still claim the department's post-matric scholarship for the years of the course, and, if going abroad later, the Tribal Affairs Department's foreign study scholarship. These are separate applications with separate conditions.

How to check your application and payment status

  1. Log in to tribal.mp.gov.in/mptaas with your MPTAAS profile ID.
  2. Open the track application option and pick the current session.
  3. Read the stage, pending at district, sanctioned, or payment released, and note any remark entered by the verifying officer.
  4. If the status reads sanctioned but not credited, check the account number and IFSC saved in the profile, and confirm with the bank that the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded.

Common reasons an application is rejected

  • Institution not on the notified list. A private college admission, however strong the rank, does not qualify.
  • Income certificate outdated or inconsistent with the figure typed into the form. This either downgrades the slab or gets the file returned.
  • Caste certificate not verifiable in the state's records.
  • Admission proof missing. A rank card alone is not enough; the file needs evidence that a seat was taken.
  • Bank account in a parent's name, or not Aadhaar-seeded, so DBT fails.
  • Application submitted online but the physical papers never reached the district officer, which leaves the file stalled at verification.
  • Mismatch of name or date of birth between Aadhaar, Samagra and the board marksheet.

Most of these are fixable. Correct the document, update the MPTAAS profile and tell the district office in writing that the corrected papers have been filed.

Key dates to watch

Pratibha Yojana has no fixed statewide last date in the published scheme description. The cycle runs with national admissions: JEE and NEET results between May and July, counselling and seat allotment from June, and MPTAAS applications through the months that follow. Apply as soon as your allotment letter and fee receipt are in hand. Waiting until the end of the session risks running into the district's budget closure for the year.

Help and grievance redressal

  • MPTAAS helpdesk: 1800-2333-951, plus the departmental email published on tribal.mp.gov.in.
  • District office: Assistant Commissioner or District Organiser, Tribal Affairs, the sanctioning authority for this scheme.
  • Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline: 181, for complaints the district office has not settled.

Quote your MPTAAS profile ID and application number in every grievance. No agent or middleman can charge a fee for getting a Pratibha Yojana sanction, and no officer will ask for your Aadhaar OTP.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does Pratibha Yojana give?

Pratibha Yojana gives Rs 50,000 where the parents' annual income is up to Rs 3,00,000, and Rs 25,000 where it is above Rs 3,00,000. The Khargone district portal of the Government of Madhya Pradesh states both slabs, and the amount is a one-time incentive paid on admission, not a yearly scholarship.

Which exams and colleges count for Pratibha Yojana?

Clearing JEE, NEET, CLAT, the AIIMS entrance or the NDA examination counts, and the admission must be to an IIT, NIT, NLU, AIIMS, NDA or an MBBS seat in a government medical college of Madhya Pradesh. Admission to a private engineering or medical college on the same exam score does not qualify.

Who is eligible for Pratibha Yojana?

Scheduled Tribe students who are natives of Madhya Pradesh, have cleared one of the notified national entrance examinations and have joined one of the notified institutions are eligible. Students of other categories are not eligible under this Tribal Affairs Department scheme.

Is Pratibha Yojana paid every year of the course?

No, Pratibha Yojana is a one-time incentive paid on admission. Continuing support during the course comes from the department's post-matric scholarship and the central Scheduled Tribe post-matric scholarship, which have to be applied for separately each year.

Where do I apply for Pratibha Yojana?

Apply online on the MPTAAS portal at tribal.mp.gov.in/mptaas after creating a beneficiary profile, and then submit the prescribed papers to the departmental district officer. The Khargone district portal describes exactly this two-part route.

Does Pratibha Yojana cover admission to a private medical or engineering college?

No. The notified list is IIT, NIT, NLU, AIIMS, NDA and MBBS in government medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh. A student who clears NEET but joins a private college is not covered by this incentive.

What if my parents' income certificate is more than a year old?

Get a fresh certificate. The income slab decides whether you receive Rs 50,000 or Rs 25,000, so district offices routinely insist on a current certificate from the tehsildar, and a stale one is a common reason for a file being returned.

Whom do I contact if the incentive is delayed?

Contact the Assistant Commissioner or District Organiser, Tribal Affairs, in your district, since that office sanctions the payment. The MPTAAS helpdesk on 1800-2333-951 and the Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline on 181 handle unresolved complaints.
