What is Ladli Laxmi Yojana?

Ladli Laxmi Yojana is a state scheme of the Government of Madhya Pradesh run by the Directorate of Women and Child Development. The scheme registers a girl child soon after birth and issues a guarantee that a fixed sum of money will be paid to her in stages as she moves through school, into higher education, and past her 21st birthday. Locally the scheme is known as Ladli Laxmi Yojana or simply "Ladli", and the revised version now in force is called Ladli Laxmi 2.0.

According to the official Ladli Laxmi portal at ladlilaxmi.mp.gov.in, the total guaranteed amount under the scheme is Rs 1,43,000. The money is not paid as a lump sum at birth. Instead, the state records the entitlement against the girl's name and releases it at defined educational milestones, so that the benefit is tied to her staying in school.

Ladli Laxmi Yojana was designed to address two linked problems in Madhya Pradesh: an adverse child sex ratio, and girls dropping out of school in the upper primary and secondary years. By attaching money to Class 6, Class 9, Class 11 and Class 12 admission, the scheme creates a financial reason for families to keep a daughter enrolled. Ladli Laxmi 2.0 extended the same logic upward by adding Rs 25,000 for a degree or professional course.

Main features

  • Fully state-funded scheme of the Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Development Department.
  • Registration happens at the Anganwadi centre, which makes the Anganwadi worker the first point of contact for most families.
  • Every registered girl receives a guarantee certificate showing the Rs 1,43,000 entitlement and the stage-wise schedule.
  • Payments are made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the girl's own bank account.
  • Records are linked to the Samagra family and member database used across Madhya Pradesh welfare schemes.

Who is eligible for Ladli Laxmi Yojana?

Ladli Laxmi Yojana divides applicants into a normal category and a special category, and the conditions differ.

Normal category, the girl child qualifies if:

  • She was born on or after 1 January 2006.
  • Her parents are residents of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Her parents are not income tax payers.
  • The family has two or fewer children.
  • She is registered at the local Anganwadi centre.
  • Where the second child has been born, one parent has adopted family planning.

Special category. The following are covered without the usual two-child and family planning conditions:

  • Orphaned girls, provided registration is done within five years of birth.
  • Girls living in a child care institution.
  • Legally adopted girls.
  • Children of women prisoners.
  • Children of rape survivors.
  • Triplet girls born in a first delivery: all three are eligible.

Who cannot apply / who is not eligible:

  • Girls born before 1 January 2006 are not eligible at all; the cut-off is absolute.
  • Families where either parent is an income tax payer cannot apply.
  • Families with more than two children, outside the triplet and special category exceptions, are not eligible.
  • Families who are not residents of Madhya Pradesh cannot apply, even if the birth took place in the state.
  • A girl who is not registered at an Anganwadi centre cannot be enrolled until that registration is done.

There is also a condition that quietly disqualifies many families at the payment stage rather than the registration stage: the Rs 1,00,000 final payment is released only if the girl has passed Class 12. A registered girl who drops out earlier keeps the instalments already received but does not receive the final amount.

How much money does Ladli Laxmi Yojana pay and when?

Stage Amount
Admission to Class 6 Rs 2,000
Admission to Class 9 Rs 4,000
Admission to Class 11 Rs 6,000
Admission to Class 12 Rs 6,000
Graduation or professional course Rs 25,000, in two equal instalments; first year and final year
On completing 21 years of age, having passed Class 12 Rs 1,00,000
Total guarantee Rs 1,43,000

Ladli Laxmi Yojana pays nothing between birth and Class 6. Parents who register a newborn should expect a gap of roughly eleven years before the first Rs 2,000 arrives. The guarantee certificate issued at registration is the document that holds the entitlement in the meantime.

The Rs 25,000 graduation benefit added under Ladli Laxmi 2.0 is split into two equal payments: one in the first year of the degree or professional course and one in the final year, so the girl must remain enrolled to receive the second half.

How to apply for Ladli Laxmi Yojana online

  1. Open the official portal at ladlilaxmi.mp.gov.in and choose the application link on the home page.
  2. Select the correct category, Normal for an ordinary family application, or Special for orphaned, adopted, institutional or prisoner-related cases.
  3. Enter the applicant's mobile number and verify it with the OTP sent to that number.
  4. Fill in the girl child's details — name, date of birth, Samagra member ID, Anganwadi centre, district and project: along with the parents' details.
  5. Upload the birth certificate, residence proof and, where applicable, the family planning certificate.
  6. Submit the form and note down the application number shown on screen.
  7. Wait for verification by the Anganwadi worker and the Child Development Project Officer. Once approved, download the Ladli Laxmi guarantee certificate from the portal.

How to apply for Ladli Laxmi Yojana offline

  1. Visit the Anganwadi centre in your village or ward with the girl child's birth certificate and your Samagra ID.
  2. Ask the Anganwadi worker to register the girl under Ladli Laxmi Yojana. The worker fills the form and forwards it to the project office.
  3. If the Anganwadi route is not available, submit the application at the Child Development Project Office or a Lok Seva Kendra.
  4. Collect the acknowledgement, and follow up for the guarantee certificate after verification.

The Anganwadi route remains the primary channel. Registration at the Anganwadi is also an eligibility condition in itself, so a family applying online still needs the girl to be on the Anganwadi register.

How to check Ladli Laxmi application and payment status

  1. Open ladlilaxmi.mp.gov.in.
  2. Use the certificate or beneficiary search option and enter the girl's name, district and Samagra member ID, or the application number.
  3. The portal shows whether the registration is approved and which stage payments have been released.
  4. Download the guarantee certificate from the same screen.

Where the portal shows a stage as due but unpaid, the usual reason is that the school admission for that class has not been updated against the record, or the bank account details are missing or unverified.

Why Ladli Laxmi applications get rejected

  • Date of birth before 1 January 2006, the single most common disqualification, and it cannot be fixed.
  • Third or later child in a family that does not fall in the special or triplet category.
  • No family planning certificate where the second child has been born.
  • No Anganwadi registration, or a mismatch between the Anganwadi record and the birth certificate.
  • Samagra ID missing or mismatched. The name and date of birth on Samagra must match the birth certificate exactly.
  • Income tax payer parent, which excludes the family entirely.
  • Bank account not in the girl's own name or not linked, which blocks the payment rather than the registration.

Most rejections that are fixable come down to a name or date mismatch between the birth certificate, the Samagra record and the Anganwadi register. Correct the Samagra record first, then ask the Anganwadi worker to resubmit.
