Laptop Supply Scheme (Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana)
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Laptop Supply Scheme of the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department pays Rs 25,000 into the bank account of meritorious Class 12 students so they can buy a laptop. In the 2025 round the state transferred the amount to 94,234 students who scored 75 per cent or more in the MP Board examination. There is no separate application form.
What is the Madhya Pradesh Laptop Supply Scheme?
Laptop Supply Scheme, run by the School Education Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, is a merit incentive that pays Rs 25,000 in cash to high-scoring Class 12 students of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education so that they can buy a laptop for higher study. Readers searching in Hindi will find the same programme under the name Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, and in everyday speech it is simply called the MP laptop yojana.
Laptop Supply Scheme does not hand out a machine. The state transfers the money directly into the student's own bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer, and the student chooses and buys the laptop. This design was adopted because it avoids a central procurement tender, gets the benefit out within weeks of the board result, and lets a student pick a configuration that suits the course they are joining.
The programme has been running for more than fifteen years. State figures cited at the 2025 distribution event put cumulative coverage at more than 4.32 lakh students and cumulative spending at about Rs 1,080 crore. In the 2025 round itself, the government released Rs 238.98 crore to 94,234 students who scored 75 per cent or more in the Class 12 board examination.
Who is eligible for the Laptop Supply Scheme?
A student qualifies when all of the following are true:
- The student is a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
- The student passed Class 12 in the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education examination for the relevant result year.
- The student's aggregate percentage is at or above the cut-off notified for that year. Recent rounds have used 75 per cent.
- The student has a bank account in their own name, Aadhaar-seeded, so that the DBT credit can land.
- The student's record on the school education portal carries a valid Samagra ID and matching Aadhaar details.
Students who are not eligible:
- Students of CBSE, ICSE or any board other than MPBSE. The 2025 round was confined to the MP Board result, and CBSE students were left out despite an earlier announcement.
- Students who scored below the notified cut-off, even by a fraction of a percentage point. There is no discretionary relaxation.
- Students who are not residents of Madhya Pradesh, even if they sat the MP Board examination.
- Students who failed or were placed in the supplementary category in the Class 12 examination.
- Students whose bank account is not in their own name. A parent's or guardian's account cannot be substituted.
One point causes recurring confusion. Announcements in different years have described the beneficiary group differently: some rounds emphasised government school students, other rounds referred to the whole MP Board cohort. The 2024-25 round announced by the Chief Minister covered roughly 89,710 government school students at the 75 per cent mark before the wider figure of 94,234 was reported at the final transfer. Because the wording of the sanction order changes from year to year, treat the department's own notice for your result year as the deciding document.
How much benefit does the Laptop Supply Scheme give?
Laptop Supply Scheme gives a single payment of Rs 25,000 per selected student. There is no second instalment, no annual renewal and no top-up for a more expensive machine. The amount is the same for every selected student regardless of stream, district or category.
Payment reaches the student in one credit through DBT. The transfer is made after the school's verified list is approved at the district level and the finance sanction is issued, which in recent years has happened a few months after the board result is declared.
What documents are required for the Laptop Supply Scheme?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class 12 marksheet (MPBSE) | Yes | Establishes the qualifying percentage and supplies the roll number used for status checks |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Required for DBT and record matching |
| Bank passbook | Yes | Account must be in the student's own name and Aadhaar-seeded |
| Samagra ID | Yes | Used to match the student to the state's family database |
| Passport-size photograph | No | Sometimes collected by the school while compiling the list |
How to apply for the Laptop Supply Scheme
Laptop Supply Scheme has no separate citizen application form. The steps below are what a student actually has to do to make sure the money reaches them.
- Open a savings bank account in your own name before the board result, and get it seeded with your Aadhaar number at the branch. This single step prevents most failed payments.
- Give your school your bank account number, IFSC, Aadhaar number and Samagra ID as soon as the Class 12 result is declared. The class teacher compiles the list of students who crossed the cut-off.
- Let the school upload and verify your details on the state education portal, shikshaportal.mp.gov.in. The school principal certifies the data.
- Wait for district approval. The District Education Officer checks the uploaded list against the board result before it goes for financial sanction.
- Track your status on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in using your Class 12 roll number, and check your bank account or passbook once the state announces the transfer date.
If you have already left the school, for example you have moved to a college in another district — contact the principal of the school from which you appeared in Class 12. That school remains responsible for entering your data.
How to check your laptop scheme status
- Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in in a browser.
- Find the laptop or Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana status link on the home page.
- Enter your Class 12 roll number and submit.
- Read the result screen. It shows whether your name is on the sanctioned list, and if the payment has been released.
A student-wise list is also published district-wise after each sanction, so a school can download and display the names of its selected students.
Why does the Rs 25,000 payment fail?
Most failures are banking or data problems, not eligibility problems:
- Account not in the student's own name. A joint account with a parent, or a parent's account given in place of the student's, is rejected.
- Account not Aadhaar-seeded. Without NPCI seeding the DBT credit bounces back.
- Wrong IFSC or account number entered by the school during data entry.
- Dormant or closed account, common where an old school account was never operated.
- Name mismatch between the board record, Aadhaar and the bank record.
- Samagra ID missing or mismatched, which stops the record from being validated at the district stage.
The fix in every case runs through the school: submit the corrected passbook copy and Aadhaar to the principal, who forwards it to the District Education Officer for a data correction and a re-attempted payment.
When is the laptop money released each year?
Laptop Supply Scheme follows the Class 12 result calendar rather than a fixed calendar date. The MP Board declares the Class 12 result, the department notifies the qualifying percentage for that year, schools upload data, and the transfer event is held once the list is sanctioned. The 2024-25 round was announced by the Chief Minister for 21 February 2025, covering students who had passed in 2023-24.
Because the announcement date and the cut-off both move from year to year, do not assume last year's figures apply. Check the department notice for your own result year.
Where to get help
- State education portal: shikshaportal.mp.gov.in; status check, published beneficiary lists and department notices.
- Your Class 12 school: the first and most effective point of contact for data corrections, because the school owns the data entry.
- District Education Officer (DEO): the approving authority for the district list and the escalation point when a school does not act.
- CM Helpline 181: the Madhya Pradesh government's general grievance line, which routes complaints to the School Education Department.
No fee is payable to anyone for inclusion in this scheme. Selection is automatic from the board result, so any person offering to "add your name" for money is running a scam.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does the Madhya Pradesh laptop scheme give?
The scheme gives Rs 25,000 as a one-time cash transfer, not a physical laptop. The money is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer to the student's own bank account, and the student buys the laptop. In the 2025 round the state released Rs 238.98 crore to 94,234 students.
What percentage is needed for the MP laptop scheme?
Recent rounds have used 75 per cent as the cut-off in the MP Board Class 12 examination. The threshold is fixed by the state government for each result year and has changed over time, so confirm the current year's cut-off on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in before assuming you qualify.
Do CBSE students get the Madhya Pradesh laptop money?
No. The scheme is built around the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education Class 12 result, and students of CBSE and other boards were not included in the 2025 round.
Is there an application form for the laptop scheme?
No, there is no separate citizen application form. Schools verify and upload student, Samagra and bank details on the education portal, the district education office approves the list, and payment follows automatically for students who clear the cut-off.
How do I check my laptop scheme payment status?
Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and use the laptop scheme status option with your Class 12 roll number. The screen shows whether your name is on the sanctioned list and whether the Rs 25,000 has been released.
Why has my Rs 25,000 not arrived even though I am on the list?
The usual cause is a bank account problem — an account not in the student's own name, an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a closed or dormant account, or a wrong IFSC. Correct the details through your school and the district education office and the payment is re-attempted.
Can I use the money for something other than a laptop?
The grant is meant for buying a laptop. Since it is paid as cash into the student's account there is no purchase receipt check built into the payment, but the stated purpose of the scheme is digital learning support.
Who runs the laptop scheme in Madhya Pradesh?
The School Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh runs it, using the state education portal shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and the district education officers for verification.
