Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme (Class 9-10)
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship is a Madhya Pradesh School Education Department scheme paying roughly Rs 300 to Rs 400 per student to general-category boys and girls in Classes 9 and 10 of government schools, where parental annual income is up to Rs 1,00,000 and the previous class was passed. The school files the claim on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in.
What is the Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme?
Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, listed in Hindi as Sudama Pre-Metric Chhatravritti Yojana, is a state-funded scholarship of the School Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh for students of Classes 9 and 10 in government schools. The scheme's stated objective, as recorded on the Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline entitlement page, is continuity and quality in students' education, in plain terms, keeping a low-income student in school through the two years leading to the Class 10 board examination.
The name is deliberate. Sudama, in the story every Indian schoolchild knows, is the poor classmate of Krishna, and the scheme is named for the student who arrives at school with less than everyone around him. Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship covers the general-category student whose family is poor but who is not eligible under the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Class or minority pre-matric schemes that run in parallel for the same classes.
According to the entitlement record, the benefit is in the range of Rs 300 to Rs 400 per student, the parental annual income ceiling is Rs 1,00,000, and the money is transferred directly into the student's bank account. The record states a range rather than a fixed figure, so the exact rate for a given class and year is best confirmed with the school or on the Shiksha Portal.
Key features
- State-sponsored scheme of the School Education Department, covering urban and rural Madhya Pradesh.
- Applies to Classes 9 and 10 in government schools only.
- Open to both boys and girls of the general category.
- Parental annual income ceiling of Rs 1,00,000; BPL families included.
- Requires a pass in the previous class.
- Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer, with the claim filed by the school on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in.
Sudama Pre-Matric and Sudama Shishyavritti are different schemes
This trips up families every year. The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department's entitlement list carries two separate Sudama entries:
- Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme: Classes 9 and 10, the scheme described on this page.
- Sudama Shishyavritti Yojana, listed separately for Classes 11 and 12.
A student moving from Class 10 to Class 11 therefore moves to a different scheme with a different rate, and a fresh profile mapping. Do not assume the Class 10 sanction carries forward.
Who is eligible for the Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship?
A student qualifies if all of the following hold:
- The student is enrolled in Class 9 or Class 10.
- The school is a government school in Madhya Pradesh.
- Parental annual income is up to Rs 1,00,000 from all sources, declared by the parent or guardian in a self-certified statement. Families below the poverty line qualify and may attach a BPL card copy.
- The student passed the previous class; Class 8 for entry into Class 9, Class 9 for Class 10.
- The student is of the general category, the group this scheme was created to cover.
- The student holds a Samagra member ID and a bank account in the student's own name.
A student is not eligible if:
- The student studies in a private school, including a private aided school. The entitlement record limits the scheme to government schools.
- Family income exceeds Rs 1,00,000 a year.
- The student failed or was not promoted in the previous class โ the scholarship follows promotion.
- The student is in Class 8 or below, where the General Poor Class Scholarship for Classes 6 to 8 applies, or in Class 11 or 12, where the post-matric schemes apply.
- The student is already sanctioned a pre-matric scholarship under an SC, ST, OBC or minority scheme for the same class and year. Two scholarships are not paid for the same head.
- Samagra or Aadhaar details mismatch, or e-KYC on the Shiksha Portal is pending.
An SC, ST, OBC or minority student is not excluded from support generally. They claim under their own department's pre-matric scheme, which is separately funded and usually larger.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Self-certified parental income declaration | Yes | Annual income up to Rs 1,00,000 from all sources |
| BPL card copy | No | Only where the family holds one |
| Previous class pass certificate or marksheet | Yes | Establishes promotion into the current class |
| Samagra ID | Yes | Links the student profile to the scholarship record |
| Bank passbook, student's own account | Yes | DBT credit; parent or joint accounts are rejected |
| Aadhaar number | Yes | For e-KYC on the Shiksha Portal |
The department accepts a self-certified declaration for income. Parents should not be sent to the tehsil office for an income certificate for this scheme, and should not pay anyone who claims one is required.
How to apply for the Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship
The scheme has no citizen application form. The class teacher enters the student profile on the Shiksha Portal from the records the student supplies, so the family's real task is to hand over correct documents early in the session.
- Verify the Samagra ID of the student and check that the name, date of birth and gender on it match the school register and Aadhaar exactly. Mismatches here are the largest single cause of failed payments.
- Open a bank account in the student's own name, any bank or post office, and get it seeded with the student's Aadhaar number.
- Give the class teacher the parent's self-certified income declaration, a BPL card copy if the family holds one, the previous class marksheet, the Samagra ID and a copy of the bank passbook's first page.
- Ask the school to register the student profile against this scheme on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in for the current academic year, with the correct class and school mapping.
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC on the Shiksha Portal, by OTP against the Aadhaar-linked mobile number or biometrically where no mobile is linked.
- Check the status on the portal after a few weeks, and repeat the profile update when the student moves from Class 9 to Class 10.
How to follow up offline
There is no offline route to the sanction, because it is generated only from the Shiksha Portal. The follow-up chain, however, is entirely offline:
- Submit the documents physically to the class teacher and keep copies.
- If nothing appears on the portal, write to the school principal and then to the cluster principal, the designated officer for this scheme.
- Escalate to the Block Education Officer (BEO) and then the District Education Officer (DEO), the appellate officers named in the entitlement record.
How to check the scholarship status
- Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in.
- Select the option to view student scholarship information.
- Enter the student's Samagra ID, the academic year and the captcha.
- Read the scheme-wise result, sanctioned amount and payment stage.
No record at all means the school never mapped the student to the scheme, which is fixed at school level. A sanction with no credit means the failure is in e-KYC or the bank account.
Why claims get rejected, and how to fix them
- Name or date-of-birth mismatch across Samagra, Aadhaar and the school register. Fix Samagra first, then re-run e-KYC.
- Bank account in a parent's name. Student DBT will not settle into a parent account; open a minor account in the student's own name.
- Account dormant, closed or not Aadhaar-seeded. Visit the branch and complete seeding before the sanction batch runs.
- Aadhaar e-KYC pending. Nothing is paid until it is done, whatever the portal shows as sanctioned.
- Student not promoted. The scholarship follows a pass in the previous class.
- Stale school mapping after a transfer. The new school must pull the student into its own profile list.
- Overlapping claim with a category pre-matric scholarship. Choose one scheme for the class and year.
Key dates and payment schedule
The scheme has no published last date. School profiles are built and verified through the academic session and the department sanctions in batches, so documents given to the class teacher in the first term are far more likely to be paid within the same academic year than documents given in March. Payment reaches the student as a single Direct Benefit Transfer, not in monthly instalments.
Where to complain
- CM Helpline 181, the Madhya Pradesh government grievance line, which lists this scheme in its entitlement grid.
- Designated officer: the cluster principal for the school.
- Appellate officers: cluster principal, Block Education Officer, District Education Officer.
- District Jansunwai at the collectorate for unresolved cases.
There is no application fee at any stage, and no agent or official may charge for adding a student's name to the scholarship list.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship pay?
The Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline entitlement record lists the benefit in the range of Rs 300 to Rs 400 per student, credited by Direct Benefit Transfer. Confirm the exact rate for your class and academic year with your school, since the record states a range rather than a single figure.
Who is eligible for the Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship?
A general-category boy or girl studying in Class 9 or Class 10 in a Madhya Pradesh government school, whose parental annual income is up to Rs 1,00,000 and who passed the previous class, is eligible. Families below the poverty line qualify on the same income test.
Who cannot get this scholarship?
Students in private schools are not eligible, because the scheme covers government schools only. Students whose family income exceeds Rs 1,00,000 a year, students who did not pass the previous class, and students outside Classes 9 and 10 are also not eligible.
Is Sudama Pre-Matric the same as the Sudama Shishyavritti scheme?
No, they are two separate entries in the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department's list. Sudama Pre-Matric Scholarship covers Classes 9 and 10, while Sudama Shishyavritti Yojana is listed separately for Classes 11 and 12. Check which one your class falls under before claiming.
Do parents need an income certificate from the tehsil?
No. A self-certified declaration signed by the parent or guardian is accepted, and a BPL card copy may be attached where the family holds one. This keeps the paperwork proportionate to a scholarship of a few hundred rupees.
How do I check the payment status?
Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in, choose the scholarship status option, and enter the student's Samagra ID with the academic year. The portal lists the schemes mapped to the student, the sanctioned amount and the payment stage.
Who do I complain to if the money never arrives?
Start with the cluster principal, who is the designated officer for this scheme, then the Block Education Officer and the District Education Officer. Complaints can also be registered on CM Helpline 181.
