What is MP Laptop Yojana?

MP Laptop Yojana, officially the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, is a merit incentive run by the School Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The scheme pays Rs 25,000 as a one-time Direct Benefit Transfer to Class 12 students of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education who score at or above the merit cut-off announced for that year, so they can buy a laptop before they start higher education.

The scheme has been running since the 2009-10 academic year. In the 2025 round the state government transferred Rs 238.98 crore to 94,234 students who had scored 75 per cent or more in the MP Board Class 12 examination, and over its lifetime the scheme has reached more than 4.3 lakh students.

Two things about the scheme are widely misunderstood, and both matter.

  • The state does not distribute laptops. It transfers cash and the student buys the machine of their choice. The popular name "free laptop yojana" is a nickname, not the scheme design.
  • There is no application form. Eligibility is computed from board result data, so a student who "did not apply" has not missed anything, but a student whose Samagra, Aadhaar or bank details are wrong will not be paid.

Who is eligible for MP Laptop Yojana?

You are eligible if:

  • You passed Class 12 from MPBSE, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education, in the year for which the incentive is announced.
  • You scored at or above the merit cut-off notified for that year. The cut-off has been 75 per cent for general-category students in recent rounds, with a relaxed 70 per cent applied to SC, ST and OBC students in some years.
  • You are a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Your Samagra ID is mapped to your school on the Shiksha Portal and your Aadhaar e-KYC is complete.
  • You hold a bank account in your own name, Aadhaar-seeded and active.

All streams count. Arts, commerce, science, agriculture and other streams are treated alike, and the cut-off is on the aggregate percentage rather than on a subject group.

You are not eligible if:

  • You passed Class 12 from CBSE, ICSE or any board other than MPBSE. This is the single largest category of disappointed applicants each year.
  • You scored below the notified cut-off, even by a fraction. There is no discretionary rounding.
  • You are not domiciled in Madhya Pradesh.
  • You appeared as a supplementary or improvement candidate and cleared the cut-off only after the main result was declared; such cases are decided by the department for that year and are not automatically included.
  • You have already received the incentive in an earlier year. The benefit is once per student.

How much does the scheme pay, and when?

MP Laptop Yojana pays a flat Rs 25,000 once. There is no instalment structure, no repeat payment in later years of college, and no separate component for accessories or internet.

Payment is made by DBT into the student's own account. The transfer normally follows a few weeks to a few months after the MP Board Class 12 result is declared, usually announced at a state-level function where the Chief Minister releases the funds in bulk. Students should watch the Shiksha Portal announcement rather than expecting a fixed calendar date, because the release date has moved from year to year.

What documents are required?

Document Mandatory Notes
MP Board Class 12 marksheet Yes Roll number is the lookup key for the beneficiary list
Samagra ID Yes Shiksha Portal identifies students only by Samagra
Aadhaar card Yes Needed for Samagra e-KYC and bank seeding
Bank passbook first page Yes Must be the student's own Aadhaar-seeded account
MP domicile proof Yes Permanent residence in the state
Caste certificate No Only where a relaxed category cut-off is claimed

How to apply for MP Laptop Yojana

There is no application form to fill, so the steps below are the real actions a student must take to make sure the payment reaches them.

  1. Check your Class 12 aggregate percentage on the MPBSE marksheet against the cut-off announced by the School Education Department for your year.
  2. Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and search for your record using your Samagra ID or Class 12 roll number to confirm that the portal holds your details and shows the correct school.
  3. Complete Samagra e-KYC with Aadhaar if it is shown as pending. This can be done at a Samagra kiosk, an MP Online kiosk or a Common Service Centre.
  4. Open or update a savings account in your own name and get it Aadhaar-seeded at the bank branch. Ask the bank to confirm NPCI mapping, not just Aadhaar linkage in their records.
  5. Give the account details to your school's Shiksha Portal operator so the school can update or re-push your entry.
  6. Track the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana section of the Shiksha Portal for the district-wise list and the payment status once the release is announced.

How to check your name and payment status

  1. Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in on a browser.
  2. Go to the section for the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana or the laptop incentive.
  3. Choose the district-wise list of students, or use the individual lookup by roll number or Samagra ID.
  4. If your name appears but the amount has not arrived, check the payment status line — it will show whether the transaction was generated and whether it failed at the bank.

A payment shown as generated but not credited is almost always a bank-side failure, which the school can re-submit after the account is fixed.

Why students who qualify still do not get the Rs 25,000

  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT transaction bounces.
  • Account in a parent's or guardian's name. The scheme pays the student.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the bank record and the board marksheet, a middle name present in one and absent in another is enough.
  • Samagra ID not mapped to the school, so the student never entered the Shiksha Portal dataset.
  • Dormant or KYC-frozen account at the bank.
  • Wrong board, which is a genuine ineligibility rather than a fixable error.

The correct escalation order is the school's Shiksha Portal operator first, then the Block Education Officer, then the District Education Officer.

How MP Laptop Yojana fits with other Madhya Pradesh merit schemes

A high-scoring MP Board Class 12 student in Madhya Pradesh is usually looking at more than one benefit in the same year, and the schemes do not cancel each other out.

  • Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana pays the higher-education tuition fee of students who cross a higher merit bar in the same Class 12 result. It requires a separate online application, unlike the laptop incentive.
  • Vikramaditya Yojana supports general-category students from low-income families through graduation.
  • Gaon Ki Beti Yojana and Pratibha Kiran Scholarship pay a monthly scholarship through graduation to rural girls and urban BPL girls respectively.

MP Laptop Yojana is the only one of these where the student files nothing. That convenience is also its risk, because a student who assumes the system will find them may never discover that a wrong Samagra mapping kept them out of the dataset. Checking the portal a few weeks after the Class 12 result is declared costs nothing and is the single most useful thing an eligible student can do.

The scheme itself has changed shape over its 15-plus years. In its earlier rounds the state handled distribution of the benefit around the annual result cycle, and it has since settled into a straight Rs 25,000 cash transfer that leaves the choice of machine to the student. Cumulatively the scheme has reached more than 4.3 lakh students since 2009-10.

Where to get help

  • MP Education Portal helpdesk: 0755-2600115.
  • School Shiksha Portal operator, the person who actually holds the data entry rights for your record.
  • District Education Officer (DEO) for unresolved payment failures.
  • MP CM Helpline: dial 181 to log a grievance with a tracking number.

MP Laptop Yojana costs nothing to claim. No agent can charge to "add your name" to the laptop list, and no official will ask for an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does MP Laptop Yojana give?

MP Laptop Yojana pays a one-time Rs 25,000 directly into the student's own bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer. The money is an incentive to buy a laptop; the state does not hand out a physical machine, and the student chooses which laptop to buy and where.

What percentage is needed for the MP laptop scheme?

Students must clear the merit cut-off announced by the School Education Department for that year's MP Board Class 12 result, which has been 75 per cent for the general category in recent rounds, with a relaxed 70 per cent cut-off used for SC, ST and OBC students in some years. The exact cut-off is notified fresh after each result.

Are CBSE and ICSE students eligible for MP Laptop Yojana?

No, only students who passed Class 12 from the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) are covered. CBSE, ICSE and open-school students are not eligible, whatever their marks.

Do I have to fill an application form for the laptop scheme?

No separate application form exists. The School Education Department draws the list from MPBSE result data mapped to the Shiksha Portal, so the only thing a student must do is make sure the Samagra ID, Aadhaar e-KYC and bank account details on the portal are correct and current.

How do I check whether my name is in the MP Laptop Yojana list?

Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in, go to the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana section and use the roll-number or Samagra ID lookup, or open the district-wise list of students published there. The same section shows whether the payment has been generated.

My marks qualify but the money has not arrived. Why?

The usual cause is a bank account problem rather than an eligibility problem — an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, is dormant, is in a parent's name, or carries a name that does not match Aadhaar. Fix the bank record and the Samagra e-KYC, then ask the school to re-push the entry.

Can I spend the Rs 25,000 on something other than a laptop?

The Rs 25,000 is released as an incentive for buying a laptop and students are expected to use it for that. The department does not collect a purchase bill from every student, but the scheme's stated purpose is digital access for higher study.

Is MP Laptop Yojana the same as Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana?

No, they are different schemes. MP Laptop Yojana pays Rs 25,000 once for a laptop, while Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana pays higher-education tuition fees for students who cross a higher merit bar. A student can qualify for both in the same year.
