Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme (Madhya Pradesh)
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme of Madhya Pradesh pays Rs 300 a month for 10 months of the academic year, Rs 3,000 in all, to students studying Sanskrit at Prathama, Purva Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri or Acharya level whose annual family income is not above Rs 54,000. The claim is filed through the institution on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in.
What is the Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme?
Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme is one of the integrated scholarship schemes of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, operated on the MP Education Portal at shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and aimed at students who study Sanskrit through the traditional stages of Sanskrit education. The scholarship pays Rs 300 a month for 10 months of the academic session, a total of Rs 3,000 a year, credited directly into the student's bank account.
The scheme exists because Sanskrit education in Madhya Pradesh runs on a parallel ladder of its own: Prathama, Purva Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri and Acharya, alongside the B.A. (Classic) and M.A. (Classic) courses that correspond to the last two. Students on this ladder often study in smaller institutions, come from low-income families, and fall outside the reach of mainstream merit scholarships. A small, dependable annual amount tied to continued enrolment is the state's response.
Main features
- Rs 300 a month for 10 months, that is Rs 3,000 a year.
- Covers the whole Sanskrit ladder, from Prathama up to Acharya and the equivalent Classic degree courses.
- Annual family income ceiling of Rs 54,000.
- Restricted to government and government-aided non-government institutions.
- Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own account.
- Recurring: claimable in every session in which the student remains a regular Sanskrit student within the income limit.
Who is eligible for the Sanskrit Scholarship?
A student can claim the scholarship if:
- The student is a native and permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
- The student is enrolled as a regular student of a Sanskrit course at Prathama, Purva Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri or Acharya level, or the corresponding B.A. or M.A. Classic course.
- The institution is a government or government-aided non-government institution.
- The annual family income does not exceed Rs 54,000.
- The student holds a bank account in their own name, seeded with Aadhaar.
- The student's Samagra ID and education portal e-KYC are complete.
Who cannot apply or is not eligible:
- Students of wholly private unaided institutions. The government or aided condition is explicit.
- Families whose annual income exceeds Rs 54,000. This is the sharpest filter in the scheme, and there is no relaxation published against it.
- Students who are not natives of Madhya Pradesh, even if studying at an institution inside the state.
- Non-regular students, including private or correspondence candidates who are not enrolled as regular students.
- Students who have failed and are repeating a year, in the session in which they were not promoted, since the scholarship follows regular progression.
- Students taking Sanskrit as a single subject inside an ordinary school or degree course, as opposed to being enrolled in the Sanskrit stream itself.

How to apply for the Sanskrit Scholarship
- Confirm that your Samagra member ID is mapped to your institution on the MP Education Portal, shikshaportal.mp.gov.in. An unmapped student record cannot receive any portal-routed scholarship.
- Complete e-KYC on the education portal, linking Aadhaar to the Samagra record, and check that the name and date of birth match your marksheet exactly.
- Obtain a current family income certificate from the tehsildar or through MP e-District, showing annual income not above Rs 54,000.
- Open the scholarship scheme section on the portal, select the academic year and your class or level, and confirm that the Sanskrit Scholarship appears in the list of schemes you are shown as eligible for.
- Submit the income certificate, bonafide certificate, previous marksheet, Aadhaar and bank passbook copy to the head of your institution, who enters and verifies the claim on the portal.
- Ask for the acknowledgement or application reference recorded by the institution, and note it down for follow-up.
- Track the sanction and payment on the portal's scholarship status screen using your Samagra ID.
How to apply offline or with help
- Meet the head of your Sanskrit institution or the scholarship in-charge with your original documents. In most institutions the staff enter the whole batch of eligible students, and the student's only task is to supply correct documents and bank details.
- If the institution is unresponsive, approach the District Education Officer with a written request and copies of your documents.
- An MP Online kiosk or Common Service Centre can help with e-KYC and with checking status if you do not have internet access at home. They may charge only the notified service charge, and no more.
How much is paid, and when?
The scholarship is Rs 300 a month for 10 months, so Rs 3,000 a year. It is not paid as ten separate monthly credits in practice; state scholarship sanctions on the education portal are usually released as a consolidated credit once the claim is verified and the budget for the head is released. The amount goes into the student's Aadhaar-seeded account by Direct Benefit Transfer.
Because the sum is modest, students often ignore it. It is worth claiming anyway, because the same portal record, once clean, is what makes every other integrated scholarship on the portal work, and a student who fixes e-KYC and bank seeding for this scheme usually finds later, larger claims go through without trouble.
How to check your Sanskrit Scholarship status
- Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and choose the scholarship or student benefit status option.
- Enter your Samagra member ID and select the academic session.
- Read the status against the Sanskrit Scholarship entry, and check the supporting flags shown for e-KYC and bank account verification.
- If the status is sanctioned but the money has not arrived, verify the account number and IFSC on the portal against your passbook and ask your bank branch to confirm Aadhaar seeding.
Common reasons a Sanskrit Scholarship claim fails
- Income certificate above Rs 54,000 or expired. The ceiling is strict.
- e-KYC incomplete on the education portal.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT transfer bounces back.
- Account in a parent's or guardian's name rather than the student's.
- Name or date of birth mismatch between Aadhaar, the Samagra record and the institutional record.
- Institution has not mapped the student to the correct course and level, so the Sanskrit scheme never appears in the student's eligible list.
- Claim entered but not forwarded by the head of the institution.
- Institution is unaided private, which is a disqualification, not a defect.
Each of the first six is fixable within a session. Correct the record, tell the institution in writing, and ask for the claim to be re-forwarded.
Key dates to watch
No permanent statewide last date is published for this scholarship. The integrated scholarship cycle on the education portal opens with the academic session; in recent sessions the window has run from around the middle of June to the end of September. Treat those months as the working window, and confirm the current session's exact dates with your institution, because the portal closes entry for a session once the district finalises its lists.
Where the Sanskrit Scholarship fits
Madhya Pradesh also supports Sanskrit education through Maharshi Panini Sanskrit Evam Vedic Vishwavidyalaya at Ujjain, which administers its own student scholarships for courses on its rolls, and through the central government's scholarship schemes for Sanskrit run under the national Sanskrit institutions. A student may be eligible under more than one route, but the same expense cannot be claimed twice, and institutions are expected to check for duplicate claims before forwarding.
Help and grievance redressal
- Head of your institution, who files and verifies the claim.
- District Education Officer, for claims stuck at institution level.
- Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline: 181, for complaints not settled at district level.
Carry your Samagra member ID and the session year to any grievance. No agent can charge a fee for adding your name to a scholarship list, and no officer will ask for your Aadhaar OTP.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Scholarship?
The Sanskrit Scholarship pays Rs 300 a month for 10 months of the academic session, which works out to Rs 3,000 in a year. The amount is transferred directly to the student's bank account and is paid for each year the student remains a regular Sanskrit student and stays within the income limit.
Who is eligible for the Sanskrit Scholarship in Madhya Pradesh?
A native of Madhya Pradesh studying Sanskrit at Prathama, Purva Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri or Acharya level, or the equivalent B.A. and M.A. Classic courses, in a government or government-aided institution, with annual family income not above Rs 54,000, is eligible.
What is the income limit for the Sanskrit Scholarship?
The published income ceiling is Rs 54,000 a year for the family. This is a low ceiling by current standards and is the single condition that disqualifies most applicants, so get a current income certificate from the tehsildar before applying.
Which Sanskrit courses are covered?
Prathama, Purva Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri and Acharya are covered, along with the graduate and postgraduate Classic streams that correspond to Shastri and Acharya. These are the traditional stages of Sanskrit education recognised in Madhya Pradesh.
Can a student of a private Sanskrit institution apply?
No. The scholarship is written for students in government or government-aided non-government institutions. A student of a wholly private unaided institution is not eligible.
Do I apply myself or does my institution do it?
The claim is filed through the institution on the MP Education Portal, shikshaportal.mp.gov.in, under the integrated scholarship schemes. The student's job is to complete e-KYC, give correct bank details and hand over the income certificate; the head of the institution verifies and forwards the claim.
Is the Sanskrit Scholarship paid every year of the course?
Yes, it is a recurring annual scholarship rather than a one-time award, but it has to be claimed for each session. A student who fails a year, drops out or crosses the income ceiling stops being eligible.
Why has my Sanskrit Scholarship not been credited?
The usual causes are incomplete e-KYC on the education portal, a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a name mismatch between Aadhaar, Samagra and the institution record, or the institution not forwarding the claim. Check the status on the portal with your Samagra ID before approaching the office.
