Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana
Rajasthan state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana is a Rajasthan marriage assistance scheme that pays Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 on the marriage of a daughter aged 18 or above from a BPL, Antyodaya, Astha card, widow, disabled or Palanhar family. Apply online on the SJMS portal from one month before the wedding to six months after it.
What is Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana is a marriage assistance scheme of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Rajasthan. The scheme pays a one-time grant when a daughter aged 18 years or above is married, so that a poor household does not have to borrow to meet wedding costs.
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana is not a new programme. The department runs it under the Sahyog evam Uphar Yojana Rules 2015, issued through departmental order number 45327 dated 13 July 2016. Those rules were themselves the merger of two older schemes, the Sahyog Yojana, and the scheme that helped widows marry their daughters. Departmental order number 49969 dated 12 October 2020 renamed the programme Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, and readers who search for it in Hindi as Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana or by its old name Sahyog evam Uphar Yojana are looking at the same scheme.
The grant amounts in force today come from departmental order number 26019 dated 29 April 2020, issued in pursuance of Budget Announcement number 114.00 of the 2019-20 state budget and with the concurrence of the Finance (Expenditure-2) Department.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana?
You can claim the grant if the bride is 18 years or older and the family falls in one of these groups:
- A BPL family of the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or minority category, meaning a family below the poverty line that appears in the central or state BPL list under that category.
- A BPL family of any other category.
- An Antyodaya family.
- An Astha card holding family.
- An economically weak widow woman, marrying her daughter.
- A specially-abled person, defined in the rules as a holder of a disability certificate of 40 per cent or more, marrying his or her daughter.
- A girl benefited under the Palanhar Yojana, on her own marriage.
- A woman sportsperson who has won a medal in a state-level competition, on her own marriage.
A marriageable girl whose both parents have died is also covered. The department's order number 24465 dated 11 June 2021 provides that where such a girl is cared for by a widow guardian who herself qualifies under the rules, or where no family member earns more than Rs 50,000 a year, the girl or her guardian may apply and the grant is paid at the general slab.
You cannot apply if:
- The bride is below 18 years of age. There is no relaxation on this.
- Your family holds none of the qualifying documents; no BPL card, no Antyodaya card, no Astha card, and includes no widow, specially-abled person, Palanhar beneficiary or state-level woman sportsperson.
- You are claiming as a specially-abled person or a woman sportsperson and you are an income-tax payer. The rules bar income-tax payers in these two categories, and for a sportsperson the bar extends to her parents.
- You are applying more than six months after the wedding date, which puts the claim outside the window fixed by the department.
How much does Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana pay?
The grant has two parts. A base hathleva amount and an education incentive on top of it. The full table, as fixed by the order of 29 April 2020, is:
| Category | Base grant | Bride passed class 10 | Bride is a graduate |
|---|---|---|---|
| BPL family: Scheduled Caste | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 | Rs 51,000 |
| BPL family β Scheduled Tribe | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 | Rs 51,000 |
| BPL family: minority category | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 | Rs 51,000 |
| All other BPL families, Antyodaya families, Astha card families, economically weak widows | Rs 21,000 | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 |
| Daughters of specially-abled persons | Rs 21,000 | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 |
| Women sportspersons, on their own marriage | Rs 21,000 | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 |
| Girls benefited under Palanhar Yojana | Rs 21,000 | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 |
The education incentive is Rs 10,000 where the bride has passed class 10, and Rs 20,000 where she is a graduate. The two incentives are alternatives, not cumulative, a graduate bride draws the Rs 20,000 addition, not Rs 30,000.
The sanctioned amount is drawn by the district officer and credited to the applicant's own bank account. The district officer also sends the applicant a congratulatory message from the Chief Minister along with a copy of the sanction.

If the file is not disposed of within 15 days, the controlling authority is the Commissioner or Director, Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Jaipur.
Where the application is received before the wedding and the district officer has any doubt about the facts, the officer may verify the details personally. Where the application arrives after the wedding, the marriage registration certificate is compulsory and is the key document checked.
Why Kanyadan applications get rejected
- Bride under 18. The rules apply only to daughters aged 18 years or above.
- Application outside the window, filed more than one month before the wedding or more than six months after it.
- No marriage certificate on a post-wedding application.
- BPL selected-list serial number missing from the form, so the BPL claim cannot be matched against the list.
- Wrong slab claimed, for example claiming the Rs 31,000 Scheduled Caste base without attaching the caste certificate.
- Education incentive claimed without proof of passing class 10 or of the graduate degree.
- Bank account details mismatched with the applicant's name, so the transfer fails.
- Income-tax payer status for a specially-abled or sportsperson claimant.
Most rejections are document problems rather than eligibility problems. Re-file with the missing paper attached, as long as you are still inside the six-month window.
