What is Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana?

Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana is an accommodation-support scheme run by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Rajasthan. It exists to solve one specific problem: government college hostels in Rajasthan have far fewer seats than there are eligible students, so a student from a reserved or economically weaker category who moves to a district or divisional headquarters to study ends up paying rent out of a family budget that cannot absorb it. The scheme is known locally as the Ambedkar DBT voucher yojana.

Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana replaces the hostel seat with cash. An eligible student receives Rs 2,000 per month for 10 months of the academic session, Rs 20,000 a year, for up to 5 continuous years of study, credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own bank account. The department describes the money as covering room rent, food, and electricity and water bills.

Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana covers SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at government colleges in Rajasthan. Because the number of vouchers sanctioned in a session is limited, selection is made on merit within each category where applications exceed the number available, using the previous examination's marks.

One point deserves care. Several published summaries of the scheme describe it as limited to male students, on the reasoning that girl students are covered by separate departmental accommodation and hostel schemes. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department's notification for the current session is the authority on this: read it on sje.rajasthan.gov.in before assuming either way.

Who is eligible for the Ambedkar DBT Voucher?

You can get the voucher if:

  • You are a permanent resident of Rajasthan with a domicile certificate.
  • You belong to the SC, ST, OBC, MBC or EWS category and hold the corresponding certificate.
  • You are enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course at a government college located in Rajasthan.
  • You study away from your home town, the college city must be different from your place of residence.
  • You live in rented accommodation in the college city and can produce a rent agreement or a landlord declaration.
  • You did not get a government hostel seat.
  • Your family income is within the ceiling for your category.
  • You hold a bank account in your own name, Aadhaar-seeded, for DBT.

You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:

  • You live in a government hostel. The voucher and a hostel seat are alternatives, never both.
  • You study in a private college or a private university. The scheme is for government colleges.
  • Your college is in your own home town, so no rented accommodation is actually needed.
  • Your family owns a residential house in the college city, in which case the premise of the scheme does not apply.
  • Your family income exceeds the category ceiling.
  • You have already drawn the voucher for 5 years, which is the lifetime cap.
  • You are pursuing a course at a non-government or unrecognised institution.

How much is paid and for how long?

Item Value
Monthly assistance Rs 2,000
Months paid in a session 10
Amount per academic year Rs 20,000
Maximum duration 5 continuous years
Payment route Direct Benefit Transfer to the student's own account

Some cycles have differentiated the amount by category or by whether the college is at a divisional or district headquarters, with figures of Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,500 a month both in circulation. The sanction letter you receive states your own rate, and the current session's notification on the SJE portal states the rates for that year: treat those two as authoritative over any general summary.

How to apply for Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana

  1. Create or sign in to your SSO ID at sso.rajasthan.gov.in, registering with your Jan Aadhaar number if you do not already have one.
  2. From the SSO dashboard, search for and open the SJMS (Social Justice Management System) application. The same module used for the department's scholarships.
  3. Select Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana from the list of schemes and open the application form for the current academic session.
  4. Fill in your personal details, category, college and course, home address and college-city address, and your bank account number with IFSC code.
  5. Upload the caste certificate, income certificate, domicile certificate, Jan Aadhaar, Aadhaar, rent agreement, bonafide certificate, previous marksheet and bank passbook page.
  6. Submit the form and note the application number on the acknowledgement.
  7. Get your college to verify the application. The nodal officer at the institution confirms enrolment and forwards the case; an unverified application never reaches the department.
  8. Track the case through department scrutiny and district-level approval, and watch your bank account for the DBT credit once the sanction is issued.

Offline route: take the same documents to a nearby e-Mitra kiosk and ask the operator to file the SJMS application on your behalf against the government-notified service fee. There is no purely paper channel, the e-Mitra route fills the same online form.

How do I check my application status?

  1. Sign in to sso.rajasthan.gov.in with the SSO ID used to apply.
  2. Open SJMS and use the application status option with your application number.
  3. Read which stage the case sits at; pending at college, pending at department, objected, sanctioned, or paid.

An objection is not a rejection. It names the specific document that failed, and it can usually be cleared by re-uploading through the same portal within the time allowed. Filing a second fresh application instead creates a duplicate and typically gets both held.

Why do Ambedkar DBT Voucher applications get rejected?

  • Rent agreement missing, unsigned, or unverifiable. Field verification of the landlord is routine, so a borrowed or informal agreement fails.
  • Home town and college city are the same, so the student does not need rented accommodation.
  • The college is private, not a government college.
  • Income certificate above the category ceiling, or income in the Jan Aadhaar record contradicting the certificate.
  • Government hostel seat already allotted, which disqualifies the claim.
  • Bank account in a parent's name, or not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT fails even after sanction.
  • College verification not completed before the last date.
  • Merit cut-off not met in a year where applications exceeded the sanctioned number of vouchers.

Where do I get help?

  • Rajasthan state helpline: 1800-180-6127.
  • District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer, who handles scrutiny and district-level sanction for the scheme.
  • Your college's scholarship nodal officer, for verification-stage problems, this is where most delays actually sit.
  • Rajasthan Sampark at sampark.rajasthan.gov.in for a tracked written grievance.

Applying through your own SSO ID is free. No agent can secure a voucher for a fee, and no official will ask for your SSO password or your bank OTP.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana pay?

Rajasthan Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana pays Rs 2,000 per month for 10 months of the academic session, which works out to Rs 20,000 in a year, and it can run for up to 5 continuous years of study. The money is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own bank account.

Who is eligible for the Ambedkar DBT Voucher?

Students of the SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS categories who are permanent residents of Rajasthan, are enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course at a government college in Rajasthan, study away from their home town, and live in rented accommodation because they did not get a government hostel are eligible.

What is the income limit?

The income ceiling differs by category: commonly cited as up to Rs 2.5 lakh a year for SC, ST and MBC applicants, up to Rs 1.5 lakh for OBC applicants and up to Rs 1 lakh for EWS applicants. Because these ceilings have been revised between cycles, confirm the figure in the current year's notification on the SJE portal before you apply.

Who cannot apply for the scheme?

Students living in a government hostel, students at private colleges, students studying in their own home town, and students whose family owns a house in the college city are not eligible. Applicants above the category income ceiling and those who have already drawn the voucher for 5 years are also excluded.

Is a rent agreement compulsory?

Yes. The whole scheme is designed around students who pay rent because no government hostel seat was available, so a rent agreement or a signed landlord declaration with the landlord's identity details is the single most important supporting document.

How do I apply for the Ambedkar DBT Voucher?

Sign in to sso.rajasthan.gov.in, open the SJMS (Social Justice Management System) application, select the Ambedkar DBT Voucher Yojana form, fill it, upload the documents and submit it for college verification. An e-Mitra kiosk can file the same form for you against the notified service fee.

When is the last date to apply?

The last date is notified afresh each academic session, and past cycles have closed around 30 November. Check the current session's notice on sje.rajasthan.gov.in, because the date shifts every year and late applications are not accepted.

Why was my application rejected?

The usual reasons are a missing or unverifiable rent agreement, a college that is not a government college, the student's home town being the same as the college city, an income certificate above the category ceiling, or a bank account that is not in the student's own name.
