Rajasthan state government scheme
Balika Protsahan Puraskar Yojana is a Rajasthan award that pays a one-time Rs 5,000 to a girl who passes Class 12 with at least 75 per cent marks and then joins an undergraduate course. The Secondary Education Department runs it through the Balika Shiksha Foundation, and the school files the form on the Shala Darpan portal.
What is the Balika Protsahan Puraskar Yojana?
Balika Protsahan Puraskar Yojana is a Rajasthan state award scheme that pays a one-time sum of Rs 5,000 to a girl who has cleared her Class 12 board examination with 75 per cent or more and has gone on to enrol in an undergraduate course. The Secondary Education Department of Rajasthan runs the award through the Balika Shiksha Foundation based in Jaipur, and the money reaches the student by Direct Benefit Transfer into her own bank account.
The award has a specific purpose. Rajasthan's Class 12 pass rates for girls have long been reasonable, but the drop between school and college has been sharp, particularly in rural districts where a family that will fund school fees often will not fund a degree. Balika Protsahan Puraskar is aimed at exactly that gap: it is payable at the moment a girl actually joins graduation, not at the moment she passes Class 12. The transliterated name, Balika Protsahan Puraskar, is what most schools and students use, and the same foundation also administers the better-known Gargi Puraskar.
Two features distinguish it from most Rajasthan student schemes. First, there is no income ceiling, no caste restriction and no occupation restriction. A girl who meets the marks bar and the residence condition qualifies regardless of family background. Second, the student does not file the form herself. The school files it on the Shala Darpan portal.
Who is eligible for Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
You can apply if:
- You are a girl and a permanent resident of Rajasthan.
- You have passed Class 12 with an aggregate of 75 per cent or more.
- You are unmarried on the date the application is filed.
- You have enrolled in an undergraduate course after Class 12 and can produce a bonafide certificate or admission proof from that college.
- You have a bank account in your own name, seeded with Aadhaar.
- Your family has a Jan Aadhaar or Bhamashah record.
You are not eligible if:
- You scored below 75 per cent in the Class 12 board examination. There is no relaxation of this threshold for any category.
- You are married at the time of application.
- You are not a permanent resident of Rajasthan, even if you studied in a school located in the state.
- You did not continue into an undergraduate course. Passing Class 12 alone does not trigger the award; the enrolment is the qualifying event.
- You have already received this same award in an earlier session. The award is one time only.
Age conditions have been applied in some sessions of the scheme: published guidance for earlier rounds set a band of roughly 18 to 35 years, so a student who is well outside the normal age for entering graduation should confirm the current session's rule with her school before assuming she qualifies.
What documents are required for Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class 12 marksheet | Yes | Must show 75 per cent or more aggregate |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Identity plus bank seeding |
| Jan Aadhaar or Bhamashah card | Yes | Family record used for the transfer |
| Bank passbook in the girl's own name | Yes | Award is not paid into a parent's account |
| Rajasthan domicile or bonafide certificate | Yes | Proof of permanent residence |
| College admission proof | Yes | Shows the girl has joined graduation |
| Unmarried declaration | Yes | Part of the application form |
Schools normally ask for a photocopy set plus the originals for verification. The single document students most often lack is the bank passbook in their own name: many girls entering college have never held an individual account, and opening one takes a week or more. Start that first.
How to apply for Balika Protsahan Puraskar
- Collect your documents, Class 12 marksheet, Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar, bank passbook in your own name, domicile certificate and your college bonafide certificate.
- Go to the school office where you completed Class 12 and ask for the Balika Protsahan Puraskar form. The award is filed by the school, not by the student directly.
- Submit the filled form with document copies to the school clerk and keep the receipt or acknowledgement the school gives you.
- The school files the application online on rajshaladarpan.nic.in, the Shala Darpan portal, under the girls' education promotion section, and forwards the list to the District Education Officer.
- The District Education Officer verifies and approves the district list and sends it to the Balika Shiksha Foundation, Jaipur.
- The Foundation sanctions the award and the Rs 5,000 is credited by DBT to the student's Aadhaar-seeded account. A certificate is issued alongside.
There is no separate individual login for students on Shala Darpan for this award, and there is no offline route that bypasses the school. If your school has closed or you have lost contact with it, approach the Block Education Officer of the block where the school was located.
How to check the status of your Balika Protsahan Puraskar
- Ask your school office to open the Shala Darpan record and read back the status of your entry; schools can see whether an application is pending, forwarded or approved.
- Follow up with the District Education Officer's office once the school has forwarded the list, since that is where most applications sit longest.
- Once approval is notified, check your bank passbook or bank SMS for the DBT credit rather than waiting for a letter.
Why Balika Protsahan Puraskar applications fail
- Marks below 75 per cent. This is a hard bar and cannot be waived.
- No proof of joining graduation. A student who applies immediately after Class 12 without a college bonafide certificate will be held back until she produces one.
- Bank account not in the student's own name, or a joint account with a parent. The DBT credit will bounce.
- Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account. The sanction goes through but the payment fails, and the case has to be re-pushed in a later cycle.
- Name mismatch between the Class 12 marksheet, Aadhaar and the bank record. Correct the bank record to match Aadhaar, which is usually the fastest fix.
- School missed the filing window. The Foundation notifies a window each session, and a school that files late leaves its students out. Ask the school early rather than after the window has passed.
Where to get help
- Balika Shiksha Foundation helpline: 0151-2522238
- District Education Officer (Secondary) for your district, for approvals stuck at the district stage
- Shala Darpan portal: rajshaladarpan.nic.in, for the scheme notification and session circulars
- Rajasthan Sampark grievance portal, if the school or district office does not act
No fee is payable at any stage of the Balika Protsahan Puraskar. The scheme has been running since around 2009-10 and remains one of the simplest Rajasthan student benefits to claim, because it has no income test, no caste condition and a single clear marks threshold.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
Balika Protsahan Puraskar pays a one-time award of Rs 5,000, along with a certificate. The amount is paid once, not every year, and reaches the student's own bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer after the Balika Shiksha Foundation in Jaipur clears the list.
What marks are needed for Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
A girl must score at least 75 per cent aggregate in the Class 12 board examination. There is no separate merit rank or cut-off list beyond that threshold, and there is no income, caste or occupation restriction.
Who applies for the award, the student or the school?
The school applies. A student gives her details and documents to the school office, and the school files the application on the Shala Darpan portal under the girls' education section. The district education officer then forwards approved cases to the Balika Shiksha Foundation.
Can a married girl claim Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
No. The award is limited to girls who are unmarried on the date of the application, and a declaration to that effect is part of the form. A girl who marries after the award is disbursed does not have to return it.
Is Balika Protsahan Puraskar the same as the Gargi Puraskar?
No, they are two different awards of the same Balika Shiksha Foundation. Gargi Puraskar rewards girls at the Class 10 and Class 12 stage for scoring 75 per cent, paid in instalments while the girl continues studying, whereas Balika Protsahan Puraskar is a single Rs 5,000 payment made once the girl moves into graduation.
Do private school students get Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
Yes, provided the girl passed the Class 12 examination of the Rajasthan Board or another recognised board with 75 per cent and is a permanent resident of Rajasthan. The award is not restricted to government school students, but the school must file the application on Shala Darpan.
How long does the money take to arrive?
Payment follows the Balika Shiksha Foundation's approval of the district list, which usually runs several months after the application window closes. Students should keep the bank account active and Aadhaar-seeded in the meantime, since a dormant or unseeded account is the commonest reason a cleared payment fails.
Is there any fee to apply for Balika Protsahan Puraskar?
No. There is no application fee at the school, at the district education office or at the Balika Shiksha Foundation. Anyone asking for money to add a name to the list should be reported to the district education officer.
