Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana, Rajasthan
Rajasthan state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana pays Rajasthan families between Rs 21,000 and Rs 51,000 towards a daughter's marriage, with the amount rising for a bride who has passed Class 10 or graduation. The bride must be at least 18 and the help is limited to two daughters per family. Apply free on sso.rajasthan.gov.in under SJMS.
What is the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana is a Rajasthan state scheme of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department that gives a poor family a cash grant towards the marriage of a daughter. The amount ranges from Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 and is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer, not as goods or as a subsidy routed through any intermediary.
The scheme is also known by its older name, Kanya Shadi Sahyog Yojana, and many district offices still use that phrase. Two design choices are worth understanding before applying.
First, the amount is graded by the bride's education. An uneducated bride draws the base slab, a bride who has passed Class 10 draws Rs 10,000 more, and a graduate bride draws Rs 10,000 more again. This is deliberate: the scheme is meant to make keeping a daughter in school financially rational for a family, not merely to defray wedding costs.
Second, the scheme applies a hard age floor of 18 years. Rajasthan has among the higher rates of child marriage in India, and the state uses the scheme as a lever, a family that marries a daughter before 18 loses the grant entirely.
Who is eligible for Kanyadan Yojana?
You can apply if:
- The family is a permanent resident of Rajasthan.
- The bride is 18 years or older on the date of marriage.
- The family falls into one of the qualifying categories: a BPL family, an Antyodaya family, an Aastha cardholder family, an SC, ST or minority BPL family, a family where a parent has a disability, a family of a female athlete, or a family covered by the Palanhar scheme.
- An economically weak widow may claim for her daughter, provided her annual income does not exceed Rs 50,000 and there is no earning family member aged 25 or above.
- The daughter is the first or second daughter in the family to claim.
- The marriage is registered and a certificate is available.
You cannot apply if:
- The bride was under 18 at the time of marriage. There is no relaxation, and a claim of this kind exposes the family to action under child marriage law.
- The family is not a permanent resident of Rajasthan.
- The family is outside all the qualifying categories, an above-poverty-line general household with no BPL, Antyodaya, Aastha or other qualifying status is not covered.
- Two daughters in the family have already received the benefit.
- The widow route is claimed but annual income exceeds Rs 50,000, or the household has an earning member aged 25 or above.
- The marriage is not registered, so no certificate can be produced.
How much does Kanyadan Yojana pay?
| Family category | Bride uneducated | Bride Class 10 pass | Bride graduate |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC, ST and minority BPL families | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 | Rs 51,000 |
| Other BPL, Antyodaya and Aastha cardholder families, and economically weak widows | Rs 21,000 | Rs 31,000 | Rs 41,000 |
Comparable rates apply to daughters of persons with disabilities, to female athletes and to beneficiaries of the Palanhar scheme. The maximum payable under the scheme is Rs 51,000, and the entire amount is credited in a single transfer to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account attached to the claim.
What documents are required for Kanyadan Yojana?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jan Aadhaar or Bhamashah card | Yes | Household record used by SJMS |
| Aadhaar card of the bride | Yes | Identity and bank seeding |
| Birth certificate or Class 10 marksheet | Yes | Age proof establishing 18 or above |
| Marriage certificate | Yes | Registered certificate from the local registrar |
| Bank passbook | Yes | For the DBT credit |
| Address proof and ration card | Yes | Residence in Rajasthan |
| Caste certificate | Conditional | For SC, ST and minority slabs |
| BPL, Antyodaya or Aastha card | Conditional | Whichever category route you claim under |
| Income certificate | Conditional | Mainly for the widow route |

The marriage registration is the step families most often leave too late. Register the marriage at the local registrar's office as soon as it takes place, because without the certificate the application cannot move.
How to apply for Kanyadan Yojana
- Register or log in at sso.rajasthan.gov.in using a Jan Aadhaar number, Bhamashah number or Google account.
- From the SSO dashboard, open the SJMS application — the Social Justice Management System, and select CM Kanyadan Yojana from the scheme list.
- Fill the application form with the bride's details, the family category being claimed, the marriage date and the bank account details. Household information auto-fills from Jan Aadhaar, so correct anything outdated in Jan Aadhaar first.
- Upload the documents: Aadhaar, age proof, marriage certificate, category card, caste and income certificates where applicable, the bride's marksheet if you are claiming an education slab, and the bank passbook.
- Submit the form and save the application number shown on the acknowledgement.
- The application goes to the District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer for verification. Expect a field check on the family's category status.
- On sanction, the amount is credited by DBT into the Aadhaar-seeded account.
Families without internet access can file the identical application at an e-Mitra kiosk, or approach the District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer for assistance. The department does not accept a paper form that bypasses SJMS.
How to check your Kanyadan Yojana application status
- Log in again at sso.rajasthan.gov.in and reopen the SJMS application.
- Open Application Status and enter your application number to see whether the case is pending, verified, sanctioned or rejected.
- The Jan Soochna portal at jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in also publishes Social Justice and Empowerment Department scheme information, which is useful for confirming a sanction.
- Follow up in person at the District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer's office if the case sits at verification for an extended period.
Why Kanyadan Yojana applications get rejected
- Bride's age below 18 on the marriage date, established from the birth certificate or Class 10 marksheet.
- No registered marriage certificate, which is the single largest documentary gap.
- Family category not proved. A BPL or Antyodaya card that has lapsed, or a category that does not appear against the family on Jan Aadhaar.
- Third daughter claim, which exceeds the two-daughter cap.
- Widow route income above Rs 50,000, or the presence of an earning member aged 25 or above in the household.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the credit fails after sanction.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the marriage certificate and the bank record. Align the bank record with Aadhaar, which is normally quickest.
Where to complain or get help
- Social Justice and Empowerment Department helpline: 1800-180-6127 or 0141-2226997
- District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer at the district headquarters, the officer who actually sanctions the case
- Jan Soochna portal: jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in, for published scheme and beneficiary information
- Rajasthan Sampark grievance portal for a trackable written complaint
Applying is free. No agent or middleman can influence a sanction, and a family should never pay anyone to have a name added to the Kanyadan list.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana pay?
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana pays between Rs 21,000 and Rs 51,000, depending on the family's category and the bride's education. For SC, ST and minority BPL families the slabs are Rs 31,000 for a bride who has not studied, Rs 41,000 for a Class 10 pass and Rs 51,000 for a graduate. For other BPL, Antyodaya and Aastha cardholder families the slabs are Rs 21,000, Rs 31,000 and Rs 41,000 respectively.
What is the minimum age of the bride?
The bride must be at least 18 years old on the date of marriage. This is the legal minimum age of marriage for women in India, and the scheme will not sanction assistance for an underage marriage under any circumstances.
How many daughters in one family can get the benefit?
A maximum of two daughters per family can receive assistance under the scheme. A third daughter's marriage is not covered, whatever the family's category.
Who is not eligible for Kanyadan Yojana?
Families that are not permanent residents of Rajasthan, families outside the qualifying categories such as BPL, Antyodaya, Aastha cardholder, SC, ST and minority BPL, marriages where the bride is under 18, and third or later daughters in the same family are not eligible.
Can a widow claim the benefit for her daughter?
Yes, an economically weak widow can claim it, subject to her annual income not exceeding Rs 50,000 and there being no earning family member aged 25 or above. This is a separate qualifying route from the BPL card route.
Is the money paid before or after the marriage?
Assistance is normally sanctioned against a registered marriage, so the registered marriage certificate is central to the claim. Families should register the marriage promptly rather than delaying, because the certificate is the document that unlocks the payment.
Is a graduate bride paid more?
Yes. Education raises the slab by Rs 10,000 at each step — a Class 10 pass draws Rs 10,000 more than an uneducated bride, and a graduate Rs 10,000 more again. The marksheet must be uploaded to claim the higher amount.
Is there any fee to apply?
No. Applying on sso.rajasthan.gov.in is free. An e-Mitra kiosk may charge a small notified service fee for assisted filing, but no one can charge for sanctioning the assistance itself.
